Just waiting on a Bezos divorce tweet. Did you see his quote about it when someone asked him about it? He said it’s going to be a “thing of great beauty” Because of course he did.

I foresee lots of lawsuits on this stuff if they go through with it. Good thing Brett Kavanaugh is on SCOTUS now...sigh.

It allows them to access more private healthcare services using their benefits. However, it doesn’t increase funding, so it will siphon money away from the VA. It will likely hurt access to specialties that the VA does best that veterans are more likely to need. I’m going to have to ask my brother about this. He’s interning at a VA hospital as a counselor while he gets his MSW, so I’m guessing he has a lot of thoughts on it. I know that accessing healthcare can be difficult for vets, especially if they live far away from a VA hospital. But obviously, without additional funding, this is going to hurt more than it helps anyone.

I spent the afternoon at a fundraiser for my very most favorite local politician. Rep Connolly was there and we spoke for a few minutes. He said that the GOP habitually trigger shutdowns to use government employees as ransom for bullshit they want (true) and that Democrats are tired of being forced to give in bc they actually care about people (also true). He said that Democrats are 100% committed to funding the government and ending the shutdown, and are willing to give a lot of money for border security, but that the wall is colossally stupid and Democrats won't budge. I can't remember the exact quote but his words to me were essentially, "We were sent to DC to represent our Constituents, but also to responsibly use taxpayer dollars "

Went to supermarket to grab item. Parking lot packed. I think, here's DC again treating 4" of snow forecast like a cat 5 hurricane. Inside there's massive line looping ENTIRE STORE of people with empty carts.
I ask: What's the line for?
"Food distribution for Federal workers"
This is the very center of American power, the wealthiest nation on earth, with time-tested Democratic institutions and it has come to this. This was certainly not a sight I expected to see and it is a embarrassment for all those who can do something about it and have failed to.
And to think that all of this is so that one man can build a monument to white supremacy on the border of this country so that he can satisfy a campaign promise to the wave of racism here rode in on. This is America.

I was quick to ask because my brother is a vet and often puts off health care decisions for himself because he hates having to go into the downtown area of our city to get to the VA.

About to see Senator Harris speak and holding a copy of her book. #fangirl I'M SCREAMING on your behalf. I'm sitting here reading her book and it turns out I *can* love her even more than I did She is amazing. It was so great to see her in a conversation type setting (I mean, a conversation with a few thousand eavesdroppers). I think she is so professional and focused during her public appearances that it was nice to see her open up with more personal stories. You can tell it’s unnatural for her a bit and she even alluded to it being different than what her mother taught her (to not focus on yourself or talk about yourself too much). I think she’ll have to work on that if she runs, but this is a good start. So, the Mayor of SF London Breed was the person “interviewing” her and it was so special. One because the mayor is amazing in her own right but two because Senator Harris and Mayor Breed clearly have a personal and professional close mentor relationship. They came out dancing to the TuPac California song which was adorable. My favorite part was the stories she shared of officiating same sex marriages as the DA in 2004 and then again when the ban was declared unconstitutional. She talked about the fight for civil rights but she also talked about the joy and love in those days. She used it as an example of how the fight is worth it. Overall her message is really optimistic. She didn’t mentioned T by name and said even within him this is an inflection point in history. She said we have fight but we have to base it on optimism and because it’s what we believe and hold true. She said we have it in us and it will be worth it. She said when we look back in history we will be asked what we did at this time. It sounds cheesy but it was inspiring. Anyways, I’m even more of a fan now. H really liked her and I think I secured his vote. 🤣
