cornpop late here but mine just started clapping and she is just 10 months today...i just looked up 9 milestones on cdc site and those things aren’t even listed. i find it interesting how different pediatricians focus on different things. i get 3 page questionnaires at our office in mn...i don’t even think they asked about half of the stuff with dd1 while we were in ny.

cornpop and everybody, I worked for EI in my county for a little while and the current guideline we go by is 16 gestures by 16 months. 9 months is the earlier end of the spectrum that babies start picking up clapping and waving. So don't freak out.

Is everyone's M/A18 baby waving and clapping? At her 9 month appointment on Wednesday the Dr just assumed she was and seemed a bit...put off when I said no. I don't at all remember when my first started these things but I do think it was by now... We taught him to wave. He does when he feels like it lol. I only barely started with showing him clapping.

Hmm. Maybe I just don’t try to get my kids to do that when I should. Like I said - not even on my radar. Although today we were all clapping at him like lunatic seals because I felt bad so maybe he’ll start soon This mental image cheered me up immensely! 😂😂

OMG WUT to 3 page questionnaires. But that would totally suit my temperament and I almost wish DS's Ped wasn't so layed back. The questions he's asked past the 3m checkup are "does he roll over, does he sit, does he crawl, does he pull up". DS is slightly slow with those things(he hasn't even tried to crawl yet) and sometimes I've had questions like "why doesn't he poop, and why do his toenails look so weird" and the Dr is very shruggy and NBD, it's fine, this is what you can do it if becomes a problem.

This baby shrieks just to hear her own voice. She’s happy but screaming. All. The. Time. My ears are dying. We’ve tried everything but I have no idea how to stop it. DD1 hates it. I hate it. Please let this phase go fast. Also, team no sleep. Forever. Yes. L is so shrieky too. He also shouts “HA!” allllll the time.

We have clapping and waving but no crawling so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I had to change his 8 month appointment to week after next because the stupid health centre flooded the week before Christmas. So he’ll be 9.5 months at his 8 month check up. Whoops.

Oh. I see I have found my people.
No sleep here and seems to be getting worse. She was up every two hours the other night. Pretty sure she has at least 2 teeth coming through but they’ve been sitting there since before Christmas.
Also feeling uncomfortable in my body. I lost the baby weight fine but then between my iud and depression I’m up probably 15lbs and I’m not small to begin with. Small goals so far - upping my step count and water intake. There’s too many snacks sitting around my house and I can’t. Stop. Eating.

J will give you a big grin when you clap, but he hasn’t tried mimicking it yet. Waving we haven’t really worked on. It could be that they are just working on different skills right now. I think J is trying to work on walking.... he’s been getting really brave and letting go of things when he pulls himself up.

L claps but doesn't wave. He also still refuses to consistently roll back to front so I don't think any of you should worry. He will sit and scoot a little but there is no crawling or pulling up. My doctor seemed most concerned about the no pulling up.

N waves and claps but still doesn't crawl or pull up. She has her 9 month appointment next week, but I remember from DS's 9 month that the only thing our doctor says they "should" be doing at this age is sitting unassisted and babbling. There's such a wide range of normal development at this stage.

I haven't posted here in a couple weeks but I want to give an update: my husband got a job offer for one of the jobs he interviewed for in October! It came on Christmas eve and it's his dream job, so it was perfect timing.
Buuuut it means we have to move 11 hours away. They haven't settled on a start date yet, but I am dreading the logistics of packing, finding a place to rent out there, selling our house here, etc. And I'm going to miss my parents terribly.

Whew. What a day. We got home last night after being out of town for 2 weeks. Our hot water heater was not working so we had to heat water on the stove for L’s bath. Thankfully it was an easy fix this morning. I had lots of motivation when we get home last night and this morning. All unpacked, laundry done, Christmas decorations put away, groceries bought... and now I’m ready for a nap.
I do NOT want to go back to work tomorrow. I am dreading it so much. Plus my work bestie will be going on maternity leave sometime in the next couple weeks so work will be extra sucky without her.

L waves but doesn’t clap. And he only waves because I was looking through DS1’s milestones for something else and saw a note that he was doing both by the point. Cue an “oh shit” moment because I forgot we were supposed to teach this kid things and after a few days of practicing with him, he now waves. Still working on clapping. Poor second kid...

Congrats mintyblueair! That sounds fantastic! I’m assuming west? When does/can he start? Edit: I went back and realized this was covered. Oops. I’ll selfishly say my dream of having a gtg with you and leatherpants is dwindling

Shhhhh I’m hiding in my closet from my ILs. And my children.
DD2 waves and says “bye”, but only when she feels like it. She claps pretty much all the time but I think she really likes it bc it gets the dig’s attention and she’s obsessed with him.
Am I bitch for not letting my ILs take DD1 to her first movie?

whatsit, east actually... (poofed the city name) ! I've never even been there other than to drive through. The thought of getting together with you and leatherpants has definitely crossed my mind! I know I'll be back home a couple times between now and June, so maybe it could still happen ☺️ ETA: and I'm hoping we don't have to move before March, but it could be earlier.

Leaf 🌱 no not a bitch. I forget is your DD 4? ETA: I stalked and I see she is about the same age as my DS1, a)no way he’d sit for a whole movie and b)I’d like to take him to his first movie. I still remember my first movie, I was 5 and it was Cinderella with my mum and sister. She was 1 ish and crawled down the aisle to the screen when my mum wasn’t watching lol.

Leaf 🌱, I’m not sure how old she is but I vote not a bitch. I wanted to take DD to her first movie. It kinda sucked because she was more interested in getting up to go potty a million times during the movie. Her second movie we went and saw recently (the Grinch), and she was much better behaved. Although she still wanted to get up 2 or 3 times for the restroom. What movie were they wanting to see?

I think she might’ve sat through the grinch but definitely not something like Mary Poppins. I wasn’t sure if other people made a big deal out of the “first movie” but my family did. Seeing Beauty and the Beast is one of my earlier memories and I was hoping to make a big deal out of seeing Frozen 2 later this year. I just feel like I’m constantly saying “no” to my ILs. I also put an end to handing DD1 a phone and letting her scroll through YouTube which she LOVES. But then she thinks she’s allowed to do it all the time, she asks for every single toy, and I just really feel like Youtube isn’t safe for kids. The grandma hangover is going to be really bad this time around.

Leaf 🌱 I went and saw the new Mary Poppins. There is no way a 3 year old would sit through it. It starts out pretty slow and it’s really long. I’m not even sure my 5 year old would sit through it.

Leaf 🌱, I'm late but not a bitch. I'm on team "all firsts are mine". That being said I am still not ready to sit in a movie theater with E, but Frozen 2 maybe the right opportunity.
