I think capping naps is probably what we'll try next. He was napping so horribly when his canines were coming in, so we rolled with it when naps got longer. But he hasn't slept later than 6:00 since the latest round of teething started, no matter the nap sitch. How many hours is he sleeping total? I do think mine is teething currently - his gums are super swollen. He hasn't had so much trouble with sleep with his other teeth though but maybe this one is more painful than others. A typical bedtime is 7:15, waking at 6:00, napping 11:30-2:00. We've tried pushing bed back to even 7:30, but he acts like a monster if he goes past 7:15. So idk what else to do.

Yea it sounds like we're in a similar boat then - they are sleeping the upper end of the range. I do think that for most kids more than 11 hours at night is a lot to expect so if he can't stay up past 7:15 it might be tough for him to sleep past 6. Is it possible to push nap time back at all, even just by half hour?

I'm sure. I don't mind it now because I can get a lot done after he's asleep and still be in bed by 9:30 to read/watch TV. But I'd like to do my makeup without having to keep him out of the shower and put the toilet paper back on the roll 273 times. He has no chill.

I'm dying that waking at 6 is "too early." I remember my bestie and I cheering when our kids made it to 5am at that age. Even now, neither of my kids sleep till 6 on a regular basis. On "late nights" where we're out and they go to bed late they still barely make it to 6:15. And for my oldest, that's without naps. Changing naps, bedtimes, etc. nothing has changed the early wakeups except time. gingy you say he wakes up freaking out - what do you mean by that? Is he having nightmares/night terrors? That's about the age they started with my oldest (my youngest didn't start until a little after 2).

He didn't sleep through the night until he was like 14 or 15 months and he was NOT a good sleeper to start. It's funny how quickly you get used to uninterrupted sleep though and now I'm all whiny about being woken up "too early". But I really like my sleep!

lol same piratecat. STTN is relatively new for us. billyhorrible, he just cries and yells "MAMA!!!" Did I say freaking out? I may have, sorry. I don't think we're in nightmare territory or anything. I think he's just up and ready to party.

Oh I think I said freak out. He was freaking out both mornings because he couldn't find his pacifier. He falls asleep with one but he often wakes up without it and is fine so I don't know what's been different.
I also thought that we would try to take the pacifier away in the new year and I'm obviously not feeling optimistic about it now.

Is he getting too much sleep? Maybe napping too much during the day? Before the last few days, he's been going to bed at 7:30-7:45 and waking up at 6:45-7, so 11-11.5 hours at night. He will nap at home for 1.5-2 hours at home but 2-3 hours at daycare (3 days/week). Until now, his longer naps at daycare didn't seem to affect his night time sleep or wake up times. This is pretty normal and what I currently have. There’s a regression around 18m, and it normally displays in one of two ways -night wakings Or -waking up at the ass crack of dawn Mine chose the latter option. The “best” approach is to treat it like a MOTN wake up, but I know that isn’t always an option. It’s in quotes because there’s really best way to handle it

gingy -ahhhhhh! Wrong tag! Looks like I meant to tag piratecat. Although I get your crying out. Neither of my kids have been "Get out of bed on their own" until they were much older. We fall on the "scream until everyone in the house is awake" side of the spectrum too!

I think when he wakes up closer to morning, there isn't enough sleep pressure so it lasts much longer and it gets him more worked up.

And I would be more inclined to ignore the wake ups but my H has not been on board with it. I think it is harder to ignore now that he is yelling MAMA and DADDY and ALL DONE instead of just crying.

G can escape his crib and the room now. Super awesome. I assume long naps as over now. He's at least super cute about it.

Does he wear a sleep sack? Would that help? J is not much of a climber, thank goodness. I might cry if I couldn't keep him in the crib.

He's in the same room as his sisters so I'm thinking watching them climb in and out of his crib sparked some thoughts. The way he climbs out, nothing is gonna stop him. I'm gonna have to gate his room.

Please no one ever show my kid that anyone is even capable of ever climbing out of any crib ever.

What age did you start the OK to wake clock? There was a short period of time when J would wake up quietly and sit and hang out for 20ish minutes and it brought me such great joy. I felt like he was so grown and mature. It didn't last long, I don't know what had gotten into him.

It took a little bit of coaching and trials, but he figured it out pretty quick.

I've been thinking about one of those clocks. Couldn't hurt to start it now and get him used to it.
I got him to happily stay up until 7:30 last night, but he was so ready when I put on his sleep sack and laid him down. He woke up at 5:30 this morning. What a mean trick.

We took the child door lock off DS1’s door earlier this week. He came into our room three times last night for no damn reason. He ran in, laid on the bed for a minute, and then went back to his bed 🤷🏼♀️
He was not happy to be told that if he does it again, the lock goes back on (it’s on his side so he can’t open it).

My little guy LOVES his ok to wake clock. He lives for turning it on in the evenings. He carries it around during the day.
It's set for 6:15(ish). At 5:44am he'll start screaming for us. If we point to the clock and tell him it's not morning yet, he'll just scream "BUT I WANT IT TO BE MORNING" and he will carry on screaming until his screams wake the older one, whose room is the farthest point of the house away. And then I've got two kids awake to deal with.

I guess I’m lucky that DD will usually sleep from 7pm to about 8 or maybe even 9am. Usually if we turn the music on her monitor we can get an extra hour.

Just to give those of you with kids that sleep till 6 an idea of how mornings go in my house, this was this morning:
3YO woke up at 5:18 this morning and came into our room to let us know he was awake. When we told him to go back to sleep, he left without a fight. It was a miracle.
Except he didn't go back to sleep. He went to 7YO's room and woke him up to play. At 5:30, DH went to tell both of them to go back to sleep. Cue hysterical screaming and crying. Ahhhhhh there it is.
5:45 I get up because 3YO has turned on the light in his room and is playing with his paw patrol toys. I turn the light off and tell him to go back to sleep.
6:11 The boys are doing Hilights magazine in 7YO's room and I give up and get up.

I took both boys to the dentist on Thursday and walked away with a referral to an ENT for the older one due to enlarged tonsils 😪never thought that’d be something a dentist could pick up. Parenting, always learning new things

My kids decided that 5:45 is a great time to wake up on days that Dh works. This morning they were waving as he left the driveway.
