Does anyone have a home doppler? I don't have one but my GP asked yesterday if I had one to help with my PGAL anxiety and so it has me thinking about them now. Thoughts?

I have one! I think it was about $50 on EBay. I am plus sized and suck at finding the heartbeat but could find it consistently by 12-14 weeks or so. I used it with my first pregnancy and never since.

I do not. I think it would just increase my anxiety if I was unable to find the heart beat.

I do not. I think it would just increase my anxiety if I was unable to find the heart beat. This is exactly why I don't have one and hadn't even considered it until my doctor brought it up. But now since I'm already almost 14 weeks I'm wondering if it might help my anxiety until I can start to feel movement. I was used to appointments almost every week so having a month between appointments now is...stressful.

sammysam : I'm with cookswithwine in that I think not being able to find the heartbeat would increase anxiety. My NP was a recent grad so her doppler skills meant it was hard for her to find a consistent heartbeat since DD hated being monitored and would "run away." OB/GYN could get it in five seconds. It's just not worth it to figure out. I've also read that home dopplers create a false sense of security in 3rd trimester, in that people use them when kick counts decrease rather than going to the doctor. ETA: They are not worth the $$ to me. But if you find someone selling on secondhand (I've seen some on FB marketplace) it might be more reasonably priced.

@kore You're completely right. I just have to trust that everything is ok between appointments. Not finding it would definitely be worse than the anxiety I have right now.

So my sister visited and brought a doppler with her (she has no children and her and her man have chosen not to have children). She said she wanted to pretend she was a doctor. So we tried it out. I think I found it pretty quickly the first time but wasn't sure because the monitor said the HR was super high. Then my sister tried it and we couldn't figure out if we found it or not. So we tried it on her just to compare. Then I was stressed about not finding it so I tried it again and was pretty sure I found it. But honestly who knows. Then I spent the rest of the day worrying that I hurt the baby because we tried 3 times probably at least 5 minutes each time. So I made her take it with her when she left. I'm more stressed now worrying that I hurt the baby than I was before:/

sammysam fetal doppler is a type of ultrasound and just think of how many high risk pregnancies get soooooo many extra ultrasounds, sometimes an hour or more at a time!! Don't feel too guilty, your baby is fine.

sammysam I love to research stuff but with baby stuff I had to step away when I had my first. It just stresses you out and you get too much conflicting info.
