ugh. dd2 up at 930, 12, 1 and 315 and then 5. she has one of those ikea carts apparently within arm’s reach of her crib. she figured out she can grab onto and roll/bang it on the crib/wall. she pulled all of the wipes out of the container and into crib. needless to say i moved it to the other side of the changing table. i’m waiting to see if she’ll fall back asleep now, but it doesn’t look good. h was on call last night and again tomorrow so not much going on here this weekend. i’m hoping the christmas toys will still hold their attention. we are planning on having a send-off for dd1’s pacifier today (way too old to have one - i know!) and i’m terrified of what this means for sleep this next week.

MH did baby duty last night so I could sleep. The teething is destroying any real sleep. While he was busy with DD2, DD1 woke up saying her legs hurt. I was so tired I just slept in her bed with her. I’m sore from her kicking the shit out of me. I woke up with a foot on my face. WTF kid?

I’m sorry auri. I can absolutely understand that a formal diagnosis can be really tough even when you had concerns already. I hope your pedi appointment can give you some good information for next steps. ((Hugs))

Good luck with the paci sendoff polson. How are you planning on doing it? One of my patient’s moms just told me about a book someone got for her when she was trying to get rid of her DD’s paci. I think it was about a bird maybe? Like the baby birds need the paci? Idk I could be way off here. My parents told me my aunt’s dog ate mine, so I’m just curious about how other parents handle this.

polson the paci transition was 10000 times easier than I thought it would be. I hid all but one and said the others must have gotten lost. Then a few Dayan later I floated the idea of trading the last paci for a toy. We bought the toy, she slept one night with out the paci, got the toy the next day, and never asked for the pack again. And she was ADDICTED. FX y’all have an equally easy time!!!

so far not as bad as i thought. we had a farewell “party” per pedi’s advice and i made a cake and she got a new stuffed animal. we read pacifiers aren’t forever basically every night before bed the last couple of weeks. there was a bit of “i just want it” and “i’ll get it after i wake up” i suspect we’ll be up in the middle of the night. it’s silly, but h and i were both kind of sad about it too. just like how do we have a nearly 3 year old. my mom claims she took it away when i turned 3 by saying 3 year olds can’t have pacifiers at cabins and i took it out of my mouth and chucked it and that was the end of it. maybe, but i’m kind of calling bs. Leaf 🌱 that’s good to hear. she is an absolute addict as well! we have slowly made the only for sleep transition and had several plans to do away with it, but it just hasn’t worked out due to illness. that was the one circumstance the pedi advised us to avoid

polson DD1 was about the same age when we ditched it early this past summer. We knew that we could probably potty train or lose the paci before DD2 was born in April and we chose to potty train. We were worried that we’d work to get rid of the pack and then DD2 would arrive and DD1 would be pissed the baby got to have a paci but not her. DD2 DGAF about pacifiers (for better or worse) so that helped a ton. I was sad too. All her wubanubs are on the top shelf of her closet. They had names and are so so loved on. Omg. I’m going to go cry in a corner now.

Aw you guys are making me sad about the pacis. They grow up so fast. Like I know it’s cliche, but damn sometimes it just hits you in the face.

polson, glad it’s going okay so far. I’m another whose kid was ADDICTED to his paci, I thought it would be hysterics getting rid of it. But we had a super easy transition. Way easier than I anticipated. Although I have no good advice because we sort of lucked out - and by “luck” I mean we were already planning to ditch the paci and DS1 split his lip open pretty badly and couldn’t suck on it without it hurting. So we seized on that and just told him for days after it would still hurt. He asked once thereafter, like a week later and we said nope and that was that.

I am so tired. I haven’t slept for like 5 days. We now officially have 3 teeth and 3 more are JUST about to break through. And I hate myself for saying this - I think I can maybe see two more. Seriously kid????
On the up side, DH and I got a last minute opportunity from my work for courtside basketball tickets for last night. I almost said no bc screaming baby but we never get to do anything fun for us because we rarely have a babysitter, but it worked out and I pushed down the guilt and we went. It was so nice to adult for an evening (even though I care zero about basketball) and we had all you can eat food and drinks so I maayyyy have taken advantage of that.

So ds has croup again. We’ve been able to treat at home for now thank goodness, but the result is very little sleep the last three nights. The last night dd3 wokeup puking so today we are cleaning and doing so much laundry. I’m exhausted. It’s dhs bday and we have tickets to an escape room tonight so hopefully we get to go. My mom is a maybe for watching the kids... 😞

Aww I hope you were able to go out dizzycooks. We did a escape room once and it was pretty fun. We’re on our way home. We’ve been in the car for about 10 hours now. The baby has been pretty good and has only cried twice. DD keeps asking of we’re home yet.

My new nephew was born this morning! He looks exactly like my niece as a newborn. Such a cutie. It was crazy holding a newborn again. It’s hard to believe L was that small only 10 months ago. We went to visit at the hospital and are now on our way back to my parents. We were supposed to go back home today and back to work Wednesday, but my grandpa passed away on Saturday, so we are taking the rest of this week off and staying at my parents through the weekend.
Our car is literally packed to the max. Like not one more thing could fit in here. I have Melissa & Doug instruments on my lap and an expandable tunnel and Bath & Body soaps at my feet. I think we may need to leave some things at my parents and they can bring them the next time they visit.

I hope the paci removal goes well polson! We got rid of E's at 18 months and it actually went pretty well, I told her we had to give them to other little babies so for a few days she talked about the "yittle babies" which was cute. I'm really sad 2018 is over. I had such a great year. I made a few new good friends, found my soulmate workout, oh and had my little pickle! I don't see how 2019 can top it.

Uuuuuh I just realized DS is over 30 inches and I think that's the limit for his carseat. He does not seem too long at all and I was planning to use it till the end of the winter. Is the weight as big of a deal as length?? UGH I don't want to give up bucket seat naps.
ETA he is not much over, idk how accurate the nurse was. Carseat Lady says height varies, but there should be 1 inch above their head. I had forgot that but I'm sure there is. I'll check in the morning.

alwayscheese i had to google the car seat thing too. she is nowhere near the height limit for hers but her feet extend past the bottom of the seat. turns out that is ok, the head shouldn’t go above the top. i feel very new to this.

alwayscheese, if any one of the limits is met (height, weight or left than one inch above the head) then it's outgrown.

alwayscheese I guess I really should be thinking about car seats too. I’m not sure if I should buy J a new seat or use DDs and switch her to a booster seat.

Thanks you guys 😊 It’s been a tough couple of days, but I’m so glad I’m able to be home and with my family.
We had a spectacularly bad night of sleep last night. We put L down at my aunt’s and he fell asleep no problem. When we brought him home after midnight, he was a screaming mess. Got home at 1 and he didn’t fall asleep and stay asleep for longer than 10 min until 5 after we put the National Anthem on repeat and held him and patted his butt. Bye bye sleep training progress. Then woke up at 7:30. He finished up abx for a double ear infection yesterday, but I don’t think it went away. He’s pulling at his ears and taking way shorter naps. So to urgent care we go in the morning. Woo 2019!
