How was Christmas?

Christmas in our house was pretty sleepy! We went to friends' down the street for a Christmas Eve party and seven fishes feast and then stayed home with the kids yesterday, opening presents, eating, playing with toys, and hanging out around a fire in the backyard. I'm back to work today.
My parents are coming this weekend and that will probably feel more like Christmas....they will have gifts for DH and I and the house will be chaos and we will all eat and drink like its going out of style.

We moved Christmas to today and it was the best. Yesterday afternoon and evening we were with DH's brother and several cousins with their families. Wings and games endless Christmas goodies and family. Two cousins families are from out of state so I didn't know them well before hand but it was so much fun and they were definitely my people.
Today was fun and mostly relaxing. When the baby woke up and had been fed we opened stockings on our bed then got ready and went to Denny's for brunch. Went and browsed at Bass Pro then home to get the turkey baking. Opened a few more gifts that didn't fit in the stockings and eat more goodies. Maps for all then made mashed potatoes to go with the turkey and finished up full, fat and happy. 😊
Hope everyone else is as satisfied with their holiday! ❤

I can’t wait to go back to work tomorrow and not have to be a mom for a few hours. It’ll be worth my long ass commute to drink my coffee while it’s still hot and use the bathroom by my GD self.

The first half of our Christmas break was busy, as usual. We were at my parents and had lots of family to see within a few days time. My grandpa is not doing well at all, so we were there every day too. We did Christmas Eve with my dad’s side, Christmas morning at my parents, then drove 1.5 hours to the ILs for Christmas night. The next few days should be relatively uneventful (fx) and we’ll just be hanging at the ILs house. SIL is being induced on Sunday unless she goes into labor before then, so I’m excited about that!
L seemed to have fun with all the festivities. Everyone joked about getting him a dog for Christmas, to which we replied with a big fat no. So my parents wrapped up my brother’s dog’s crate with a little puppy inside that walks and barks and had it barking as they brought it into the living room. My heart skipped a beat for a second.
We found out L had a double ear infection on Friday and I went to urgent care Saturday for a sinus infection, so we’ve been feeling pretty crappy, but it’s been so nice to be home and spending time with family. And eating Christmas cookies.

christmas was super busy and fun but i am so glad it’s over and to be back to routine. we went to my moms for christmas eve dinner and christmas day breakfast and to the in laws for christmas day dinner. there are so many kids and babies on both sides now it is absolute chaos. i did get everything organized and put away though. i am now feeling the urge to purge - i think i will do this tomorrow while dd1 is at daycare.
we are getting a bunch of rain today after it snowed last night so i am not super motivated to leave the house. the baby is cutting another tooth and has been super clingy and not sleeping well. i hope it comes through soon.

This week has been insane.
We hosted 16 people Christmas Eve. I made seven fishes and pasta. Luckily, my brother and his girlfriend came over to occupy the girls during the day. Lifesavers. Dinner went really well but was exhausting. Afterwards my mom's extended family stayed and told stories of my grandparents, it was great.
Christmas day was fun but just a lot. Although I lucked out, my H took the 3yo to his parents while I stayed home with N while she napped. I took her over afterwards but it was 2 hours less!
We were supposed to eat at 530, we finally sat down at 7 (the girls bedtime) so by 715 I was throwing two screaming/crying kids in the car. And of course my Mil didn't understand why we were leaving. 🙄
Yesterday we had Christmas with my dad's extended family. They couldn't come until 6 so again at 715 me and the H were throwing two screaming/crying girls in the car.
We have another Christmas party tomorrow with my mom's even more extended family that also starts at 6. Then on Sunday we have to do Christmas part 2 with the ILs, which usually takes 6-8 hours and they're not starting until 2.
Why do people hate us?

Oh and N is getting two teeth, has a cold and I think is experiencing a leap so she decided sleep is for the birds.
E never had any sleep regression so I have no idea what to do with this. Just ride it out?

cornpop that was us both nights too (screaming girls at 730). dd1 goes to bed between 7-730 and the baby goes down no later than 630. my bil and sil both have 3yos and 1yos but don’t put them to bed until 830-9. i always feel like we are weirdos with the early bedtimes. it’s nice until you have somewhere to be i guess.

cornpop, just keep her as comfortable as possible. Do your best to keep good sleep habits intact but don't panic...IME the sleep regressions due to illness and teething are not true regressions as much as they are kids being uncomfortable. Hopefully it will pass once she is feeling better. Have you given her tylenol or motrin? As for the extended family...you don't HAVE to go....if they are unable/unwilling to consider brunch celebrations instead of evening holidays, remember that they will all still be there once your kids are more flexible on bedtime. Kids don't stay babies/toddlers forever!

cornpop I feel your pain. My dad’s side of the family doesn’t get together until 8 on Christmas Eve and the party doesn’t end until after midnight. We brought the pnp and put it in my cousin’s walk in closet and put him to bed around 9, which was way past his bedtime already. Most of my family was understanding but that didn’t stop them from offering lots of anecdotes about how all their kids (my cousins) were fine to stay up late on Christmas Eve so they could spend time with everyone. And “a white noise machine? Our kids slept right through noise!” 🙄 ETA - my cousin (who has a 1 year old) and I suggested getting together earlier before church or *gasp* skipping church, but IT’S TRADITION! WE CAN’T POSSIBLY GET TOGETHER BEFORE 8 PM HOW DARE YOU EVEN SUGGEST THAT?!?!”

Both kids were total rock stars with the thrown off schedules from all the festivities. However they both have a cold so the baby is being extra clingy today. And I think he had a reaction to eating eggs yesterday😭😭😭

Oh and N is getting two teeth, has a cold and I think is experiencing a leap so she decided sleep is for the birds. E never had any sleep regression so I have no idea what to do with this. Just ride it out? Saaaame. Well I'm not positive about the teeth and he's my first but DS is also acting like he doesn't need sleep. But I know he's miserable trying to breath with his cold so sometimes I rock him to sleep and sometimes I just put him in his crib and let him roll around till he finally sleeps. I'm very lucky that DS sleeps so well in his bucket seat. We are often going away for supper at 7. Or church Sunday eve. So he just goes in his carseat and as long as there's a quiet place to put him it's great. My friends with babies a couple months older than him just have always had fussy babies by the end of the evening since they stopped sleeping in their arms in public. They act like I'm the weird one. 🤷 Baby and I are living our best life, idk what's weird about that.

Baby still has no teeth but the chewing on everything is reaching new heights today. I just caught her chewing the corner of the coffee table. I’m not sure if I have a baby or a puppy.

Hi all! I’ve been lurking but work has still been pretty crazy. I’m taking time off for Christmas and New Years so it’s been a nice change of pace and I’ve gotten to actually spend time with the boys.
Christmas was great - much more low key than last year since we didn’t travel. This was the first year DS1 truly got the anticipation of Christmas and Santa and his reaction on Christmas morning was just the best. We spent Christmas evening with my sister and nephews so that was nice.
Of course DS1 got sick right before Christmas. He has mostly handled it well but now the baby is sick too and he’s not loving it.
And to top it off - I must have some crazy luck bc this is my second kid and both kids got their first tooth on Christmas. But that’s not all - L is getting SIX TEETH!! Six. Seriously. Help. Two are through and three more should be in tomorrow or the next day. This kid is miserable.

Poor second baby, I’m totally on the lazy feeding track with him. C had eggs for the first time at like 6 months and poor O is 8 months trying them for the first time. We don’t generally eat a lot of eggs🤷🏼♀️ He’s totally fine now though! The reaction seemed to last about 30-45 minutes. He got red patches on his face (mostly on his eyelids) and was rubbing his eyes.I have baby Benadryl on my shopping list for a future JIC😬

We got DDs adhd results back finally...she was tested Dec 1st . She has moderate adhd. We have an appointment on the 10th with her pediatrician to figure out where to go from here. I’m having mixed feelings on it. On one hand it’s not a surprise since we are the ones that pushed for the test. But I don’t know...maybe it just feels more real now that we have the dx?

Don't mind me being a drive by poster. I try to keep up, but I just feel like my life is chaos.
Christmas was good. We went to my parents house and my brother's family was in town from out of state. DS1 loves playing with my nephews and niece. We saw a movie at the movie theater yesterday. This was DS1's second time going to a movie at the theater. His first time was 2 or 3 years ago, at first he didn't want to go, then I told him that he could get popcorn and candy and he changed his mind. It was a fun time. I love Christmas, but I am glad it is over. I don't go back to work until January 7th. I am taking a me day on Thursday. DH works and I am bringing both boys to daycare. Then I am going to clean the house and rest. I can't wait!
I hope all the babies that are struggling with sleep will sleep again soon. L has been struggling with it too. He just got his 7th tooth and I know the 8th one will be here soon. Also, he has had a snotty nose the last 2 days.

Aw auri, I think it totally makes sense that it would feel more real with a diagnosis. It’s hard to not feel like a diagnosis means there is something “wrong” and that’s a tough place to be in for one of your babies. Like rationally you can know it’s not something wrong and that she’s the same kid as always but emotions aren’t very rational. I hope you guys get some good direction when you meet with the pedi ❤️

The last week of Christmas prep and a baby off schedule has caught up to me. I had a three hour nap this morning and I could easily lay down and have another one.
We had such a good Christmas though. But I’m also glad it’s done and I can start the purge/cleaning of my house. The basement is done and all of Christmas is put away and I’m so ready

Christmas was a whirlwind and my 3 year old has the post-Christmas blues in the worst way. I'm trying my hardest to stick to a normal routine but I also want downtime.

We had DS's Peds appt today. The Dr asked if he was sleeping well and when I told him he seemed to be going through a regression Dr said that's normal add this age, just don't reinforce it. It was a good reminder for me. But also DS's last nap today was a spectacular fail so my courage to continue was dampened.
We had a beautiful white Christmas. Then last night there was some frightful huffing and puffing and trying to blow the house down. We woke up to no snow and rain and mud. The grass is bright green, but man I'd like it stay covered in snow till it's ready to dry out and warm up in the spring.
