I have a 4Runner that I love, but it’s decently old and has a lot of miles in it. I want something a bit bigger than the 4Runner, but smaller than the Sequoia. I love Toyota, and H and I have had several over the years.
I have been looking at the new body style Explorer (2012 and newer), and I really like it. It’s the right size, I like the look, and H (6’1”) can comfortably fit in the third row seat. My hesitation is that it is a Ford. H and I had an F-150 for a couple of years that was ok, but that’s our only Ford experience.
Tell me the good, the bad, and the ugly about Ford/Explorers. I don’t want to make a purchase we’ll regret. Halp!

My only experience with the newer Explorers is my old co-worker, who had one in dark blue. She CONSTANTLY had people slamming on their breaks in front of her because they thought she was an undercover cop and they needed to slow down. They’re very popular police vehicles.
We’re looking to trade in my Camry and we’re looking at the GMC Acadia.

We have a ford (focus) and it's fine, but I have no preference to car makes.
I'm pretty sure Explorers are spacious (?) but the only thing I would consider was fitting car seats, making sure you have enough room and won't have to buy all new seats to put in it and that there are enough top tethers/etc for the future. I've been doing a lot of research into car seats this year and have found that a LOT of cars are not made for car seats :/ It's been on my mind because next summer we'll be replacing one of our vehicles too, which is OLD but doesn't have a lot of things we'd need if we weren't.

That would be super annoying lemondrop! Good advice pambee. We’re strongly considering being OAD, but it would be nice to fit 2 car seats in the same row if we do decide to have another child. Well, I think I’m going to stick to a Toyota. I will err on the side of bigger (vs a bit too small) and try to find a used Sequoia in our price range.

Some newer fords also have inflatable seat belts which a lot, not all though, of car seat manufacturers dont allow using to install child seats. Just something to keep in the back of your mind when buying.

H and I drove a Sequoia last night, and we really liked it. Now we just have to find the right one we want.
