I feel bad that I've never tipped my mail person or garbage men. How do you do it logistically? Mail people I guess you can put it in the mailbox but I don't normally see the garbage people since they come while we're at work.
This year we did put a treat basket on our porch filled with water, Gatorade and snacks with a thank you note for all the delivery people.

This year we did put a treat basket on our porch filled with water, Gatorade and snacks with a thank you note for all the delivery people. I just just tape a ziploc bag with the cards inside to the lid of the can with a sharpied note on it that says βcompany name pickup crewβ. Iβve only done it since we have moved to this house because they go above and beyond IMO. Instead of just dropping the can where they toss the bags into their truck one of them always walks it back behind one of the columns about 20 feet away. Mail lady gets a gift because she brought the mail to our house for an entire year after M was born so I didnβt have to go down the driveway to get it with her. UPS/fed ex because we do 95% of our shopping online so theyβre always here. That could be argued as job security I supposed, but theyβre nice guys and UPS laughed it off when asshole dog got in his truck and wouldnβt leave over the summer. Iβm not sure if I would tip if they all werenβt doing some great things. Just because I probably wouldnβt think about it.

We don't really have anyone to tip. Our mail goes to a community mailbox around the corner so we never actually interact with the postal workers. I had planned on giving the babysitter something but she never came back after she gave her notice at the beginning of the month so I was unable to. We give our neighbour a gift card every year because he's really helpful around our yard (his yard and our yard are attached and tiny so he always mows our yard for us) and he's really sweet to the boys. And the winter after H was born I wad paying a neighborhood kid to shovel my driveway so I did give him an extra few $$ just before Christmas.

How do you tip the garbage person? Do you watch and hope you catch them when they come by?

Not yet, watch it happen this year We put our garbage out after dark and they do pick up around 4 am. Combined with the road being 50 mph Iβm not sure anyone would see it there unless they stopped and were looking for it. Iβm sure that itβs a completely different situation at a house in a neighborhood, not sure what we would do then.

This brings up a good question... who do you tip/gift at the holidays? And is it based on if you see them (i.e. hairdresser)? Our kids love watching the garbage men and they wave back and forth etc. Iβve never tipped them before but I am thinking about doing so now... but also wanted to give them a decent meat and cheese or goodies box... but....garbage truck. Not sure what to do, theyβll come Xmas Eve morning. My hairdresser (who owns the salon) saw me on Nov 30 and I only tipped her what I normally do (20%) on top of product I buy from her etc. So if my bill is $300, she gets an extra $60. I canβt justify giving much more but am I being cheap? Technically if your stylist is also the owner, a tip isn't necessary. So you're actually generous on a regular basis. I'd say you're good.

Our garbage people (and recycling and green waste, all the same company, different trucks) don't ever get out of the trucks. The cans are picked up with an automated arm and dumped directly into the truck. If I taped a gc to the lid it would for sure be lost. I could try to catch them of course, but with 3 different trucks coming by on Mondays but somewhat random times, it would be rather tricky. We've never tipped them before for those reasons.

Ours are the same I think which is why I'm baffled that people are able to tip them lol. We have waste, recycling and yard waste. No idea if they are 3 separate trucks/companies but I have no idea how to tip them.

I don't tip garbage or mail people. I'm definitely stingy. By technical rules USPS aren't even suppose to accept anything over $20 and no cash or GC.
