I am in tears reading what happened and I know it was a drill. Those poor kids and teachers and their families.
I would be raising all kinds of fucking hell.

This was cruel and unnecessary. I wouldn't be surprised if some of those kids and teachers have PTSD. It would be like being on a plane about to crash and the pilot comes on and says "just kidding". There was nothing to gain from this other than terrorizing people. I get that drills are necessary but this was not.

This is bullshit. These children were terrorized. There are better ways to deal with the gun violence epidemic in this country.

That is completely unacceptable. The doubling down of "well I just have to do my job, and I'll keep doing that, the fall out isn't my problem" is enraging. I would be raising hell.

"There is absolutely risk for trauma, for each student and each staff member. That may be the price of preparation and planning in this dangerous time," Gilboa said This is the country we are leaving our children. I just can't.

I feel sick from reading that. I cried real tears.
And they are doing it wrong. like www.ready.gov/active-shooter
The US Department of Homeland Security advises remembering: "Run, Hide, Fight." The phrase is a quick way to remember what to do in an active-shooter situation, in order: Run if you can
It used to be hide, shelter in place, but then they realized that wasn't working so well. It's easier on the school and teachers to keep track of who you are if they control where you are, but they aren't making the kids safer. Run and get out of the building is better chance of survival most of the time. Hiding in a classroom behind a desk in the corner ends up like shooting fish in a barrel.
My kids would have broken out windows and headed off campus. If they couldn't do that they would have thrown all of the file cabinets and desks in front of the doors making a giant mess. They'd put thick books in their shirts (to try to slow down bullets), broken all the desks and windows to get glass to tape on the end of desk legs to make spears to protect themselves to try to fight off an attacker. Cause that's how they were taught at school , don't just hunker down.

My god AmyG. I can't even wrap my mind around children having to do that. All because the adults WON'T fix things.

I read this yesterday and I’m STILL trying to wrap my head around the sheer stupidity. I am furious that people think this is the answer

I’d have flipped my shit. My 3 year old does active shooter drills. I was not pleased to learn this fact because it’s absurd that we live in a country that thinks this is acceptable ways of preventing it. cnf I’m on the state side of the particular drills you mentioned. That’s a giant freaking no-no. Someone would be fired for doing that, plain and simple. When we do any form of simulation, everyone has to be notified it’s a drill, down to knocking on doors if someone doesn’t have any other way of being notified.
