You guys are really making me look forward to the future. Ok, here are some good things: When they say "I love you mommy" or "mommy you are so pretty" unprompted. Sitting in their room "reading" to their stuffed animals. The excitement when they get dressed by themselves the first time. Not having to schedule your life around naps. Potty trained enough so you don't have to carry a diaper bag. When something you've been teaching them (colours, shapes, letters etc.) Finally sticks.

You guys are really making me look forward to the future. I mean, yeah, a lot of it sucks. SD was seriously GREAT until around 9yo. And she has all of those lovely hormones making her do stupid things now. But there's so much good when they start to become independent. I basically just make sure there's food in the house, and she does the rest.

I do really enjoy spending time with my 4YO nephew (and have previously years too) but you know, he goes home.

I told DS "love you" as I walked out of his classroom this morning. I heard "luh yuh" and spun around. It was another kid, telling me she loved me. I got all excited lol. They're so cute, though. Almost all of the kids will say bye and blow kisses when you walk out of the room.

We usually take a break for breakfast/brunch and resume. It's going to be chaos.

This serves two purposes, a. They aren't so overwhelmed and they are still excited and b. It gives them something to play with when their schedule may be off because daycare is closed, your off of work, etc. Leaving you to get whatever last minute shit you need to get done in peace.

Oh my gosh, this would NOT go over well with H. He is SERIOUS about Christmas. I had to take J to the store to pick up a few things for his stocking and he was all "but he's going to SEE them" and I had to promise to distract him so he wouldn't. Like he does not care that I was picking out toothpaste. We didn't get him a lot of gifts - the crazy amounts of gifts will be from H's family.

But 2 days into her being home with us he agreed. This year I can distract with crafts and baking and other things but the 15 to 22months age is hard because they're not that much you can do other than throw toys at them.

Thankfully, we are picking him up from daycare on Thursday and going straight to the ILs and staying there until after Christmas. He loooooves them and they are very good at babysitting plus there will be cousins and a million toys at their house already. And hopefully the few days home after Christmas won't be so bad with the new toys to play with.

I have a question about gifts for daycare teachers.
The toddler room is divided into two areas, with low bookshelves. J is in the "young toddler" half of the room, the other side is for older toddlers. Each half has two teachers. It was always presented to me as two separate rooms, even though they are technically one big room, like they have different "room" names, separate newsletters, etc. My H does bulk of the pick-up and drop-off and insists that all of the teachers are interacting with all of the kids equally, and that we should get gifts for all four teachers. I *think* what he is seeing is that since not every teacher works the full 7AM-6PM shift, and the kids are trickling in and out in the morning and evening, the teachers are more fluid during those times between the two spaces, which is obviously 99% of when my H is there. He is also sometimes in the infant room at pick up if it's very close to the end of the day, or very early in the morning, and I am not about to include those 4 teachers to my list, and to me the older toddler teachers taking care of my kid briefly in the morning and evening is not really any different.
Sorry, that was really long! Gah, don't even bother reading it!

piratecat this is why I get something for the whole place, then something for just my child's teacher/s. Before 8/9 (I have no idea since we drop off earlier) all the kids in the preschool are in the "front room." During this time, the director and various teachers of all the different ages are watching the kids. At a certain point, they divide into their age-appropriate rooms. After nap, as kids get picked up, the remaining kids are all combined out on the playground, and again the teachers rotate as to who is watching the kids. So throughout the day, any and all of the 6 teachers may be interacting with my child. So I like to do something nice for them all - bagels, coffee, etc.

billyhorrible, they have "teacher appreciation day" tomorrow where parents are encouraged to bring food/snacks in for all the teachers so I guess we are already kind of doing that and I'll point that out to my H. I think what you're doing sounds perfect.

piratecat hold the fucking phone, you get a newsletter? What the fuck does it say? Also we give gifts to the main teachers in her room and then two teachers from the infant room who handle the bulk of end of day shenanigans. Give them something small just to say thank you. A small bag of Lindt chocolates and a card is enough.

Special dates like holidays or events (e. g. Polar Express Day), birthdays, announcements. And you know what, I was wrong - it’s the same newsletter for both halves of the room.

Suddenly I'm glad DS only has the two teachers and probably the occasional floater I'm not too worried about buying for. I should probably get my shit together and figure out what I'm picking up for them since tomorrow is the last day before Christmas break.
One of DS's little friends was telling one of the teachers what he's picking out for them and apparently one is getting an angel and the other is getting a Pinocchio from him. Four-year-olds are strange creatures.

We have a newsletter. It rarely says anything of importance. I skim it and save the calendar for the center that has the actual need-to-know stuff.

They are also apparently celebrating King Tut Day, like with parents invited, which was actually in November but they have postponed but I have no idea how one celebrates King Tut Day.
