What true crime movie or show do I want to watch right now that's not the Keepers?

Have you seen the "Mommy dead and dearest" documentary that everyone's been talking about?

It's okay everyone. I found the first 5 seasons of Unsolved Mysteries and all is right with the world.

I was addicted to Dateline and 48 hours for a long time but stopped keeping up with them a while back... I need to start again. Mommy dead and dearest is really good! It's such a bizarre story. I love to binge on True Crime because I think it's fascinating, but after awhile I always get info overload and totally freak myself out and then I have to take a break for a few months.

That's true, it is almost always the husband or boyfriend! I'm still always shocked though lol. I saw part of an episode a few weeks back (can't remember if it was Dateline or what) that was a mom who, in cahoots with her oldest daughter, killed her husband, son, and tried to kill her other daughter, all with antifreeze. That one was crazy. Sent from my ONEPLUS A3000 using Tapatalk

mintyblueair that sounds very familiar! I think there are a lot of repeats over the summer. I get so antsy over the summer without as many new episodes. I love a good documentary, though. Have you watched "There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane"? A horrible, tragic case. I found the documentary very interesting though. It's on Amazon.

I was going to suggest Mommy Dead and Dearest, it was mesmerizingly good. I was going to get up early and watch it the other weekend and J got up early too (which he never does) and ended up hooked and watched the whole thing with me.
I also have been catching up on the Up and Vanished podcast, which is really good. It's a reporter researching a ten year old cold case of a missing woman in Georgia. And My Favorite Murder is really good, too.

I know this is a true crime thread but since I've recommended it, I feel like I should give a little PSA TW about TSWWAD: there is child death in the case and the deceased body of Diane, the woman the docu is about, is shown.

charlotte, I totally agree with Dateline being boring lately. I don't know if my tastes are changing or if they just haven't been producing very compelling shows lately, but it hasn't been doing it for me. Thanks for reminding me about TSWWAD. I read a recomendation for that somewhere and then promptly forgot about it. It's back on my to-watch list.

I need to add some of these to my list! I still DVR Dateline, but it's been pretty blah as of late.
I love watching old episodes of Forensic Files, but I'm almost certain that I've seen them all at this point.

I'm watching The Imposter right now and feel so very wtf about it. I'm only like halfway through but so far it's a big recommend from me. I found that one fascinating. It's unbelievable that it went on for so long.

I watched There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane last night, then was up late reading every theory I could about how on earth this could have happened. So unbearably sad and bizarre.

I watched There's Something Wrong With Aunt Diane last night, then was up late reading every theory I could about how on earth this could have happened. So unbearably sad and bizarre. What are the running theories? It's been quite some time since I've watched. I'm not sure if I was reading the most up-to-date theories, but they seemed to be divided into four groups based on whether or not the crash was intentional and the nature of the issue preceding the drive that put her into a crisis: 1. Diane was an alcoholic/drug-addict who simply misjudged how wasted she was getting and blacked out. 2. She was an alcoholic/drug-addict who got too wasted. When one of the kids called her mom and Diane found out, she became suicidally enraged and intended to cause the crash. 3. She had some kind of argument with her husband (maybe cheating, maybe a threat of divorce) and had a psychological crisis. This theory ends with her either becoming suicidal/homicidal or drinking to excess in order to curb her panic and then blacking out. 4. She was having an issue with pain, either from her abscess tooth or a migraine, and was panicking (she was first driving erratically, honking at other drivers, and pulled into rest stops twice (I think?) and bent over like she might be sick. She drank in order to treat the pain and misjudged how much she drank because she was in a panic. I side with theory #4. Maybe being in pain was like a trigger for her, and with her perfectionist/controlling personality she didn't think to call for help, just became fixated on doing what it took to get home. Maybe she was the kind of person who smoked pot regularly and would've driven high anyway (there was contradictory information on how much/how often she smoked) and when she added in the alcohol she got way more fucked up than she planned. I kind of believed that she had ongoing dental pain, and she had a prescription for hydrocodone. Maybe she forgot her prescription that weekend and was spiralling on getting the pain under control? I've read that people with chronic pain who use narcotics to control it often become very afraid of feeling the pain, which is partially what causes dependency. I don't know if Diane was addicted to pain medication. But I can see that maybe, if there were other stressors going on at the time (maybe marriage issues), uncontrollable pain might have caused her to become irrationally fixated on getting home. As she became more and more intoxicated her thinking became more and more irrational. This is all just speculation, of course, but I really don't think she was suicidal. She knew she had 5 kids in the car.
