Did anyone see it? I have thoughts, but I loved it all the same.

Obligatory: I HAAAAAATE JOHNNY DEPP as Grindelwald.
I haven’t seen it yet. I’m not as excited about this one as I was for the first one.

I just had to ignore the fact that it was him. I’m still flabbergasted that he of all people would be chosen for this role.

I found hating Johnny Depp helps the character development as an even more hatable character.

We saw it last night.
I have thoughts. And a plot hole that I only caught because I'd just read something different in OotP.

mischief, I'm still trying to word them, BUT my plot hole: it's 1927, maybe '28, when Dumbledore is teaching and the Minister of Magic comes in, he tells the students to go with Professor McGonagall. Except in 1995, when Umbridge is shadowing the teachers, McGonagall tells her she's been teaching there for 39 years in December.

tinyjoys I read that it doesn’t make sense for her to be there either, that she was just thrown in so people could be excited about seeing a Young McGonagall

We will probably watch once us it on DVD, but I am also not aJohnny Depp for him fan. Ugh I have to many feels. I also didn't care for FBAWTDT. So I dunno, especially after FINDing HP FANFIC

Ughhh I’ve been trying to figure this out today. First of all, Minerva came to Hogwarts because Dumbledore was going to be leaving his transfiguration post to become headmaster. Whatever. I’m sure he could’ve taught whatever the hell he wanted to over the decades.
However, Minerva was born in 1935. So not only was she teaching 8 years before she was born during FB2’s timeline but also like 20 years or so before she was born in the flash back. JK has removed the year she was born in the last week according to many on pottermore. Others are saying it was her mother. Mmm no. Her mother would’ve been 10 in 1927 and her name was Isobel Ross. Not Minerva and certainly not Mcgonagall. Others say TIME TURNER. Sure. Bet she just disregarded all magical law and put herself there years before she was born and known to all just willy nilly

I saw it on Friday and was disappointed. I found it to be a very meh film, and I really enjoyed the first one. I don't like Depp as Grindewald, not because of his personal issues, I just don't like him in that role. I would have rather seen someone less known in it, because I find JD to be the same in every roll he plays now. I don't like where they're going with Queenie's character or Creedance's. It felt like a filler movie before the next one. But, as much as I disliked it, I will still go see the next one whenever it comes out.

I liked it in general. I thought there were way so many sub plots that it got confusing. I did not like the twist at the end of who Credence is. I felt like there were too many "cameos" that were just thrown in there, like McGonagall, Flamel, etc.
I was exceptionally upset about Queenie because I loved her.
But on the whole, I enjoyed it and thought it was well done. And God bless the adorable Eddie Redmayne.

There is not another Dumbledore sibling. I refuse.
I did call the blood pact thing.
Rowling just needs to stop. She's messing up her own continuity

athn64 Thank you! I'm reviving this because it never occurred to me to look for a thread when I saw the movie. But damn, that was a hot mess. I love Newt's character and really, really enjoyed Jude Law as young Dumbledore. That's where my praise ends. There were way too many plot lines going on, at one point I said to my sister "what the fuck is even happening??" The build up about Nagini was overblown, all she did was cling to Credence and look scared. How did she end up being the top horcrux for the worst wizard of all time when she seemed meek and kind?! I'm so annoyed with this Dumbledore sibling nonsense. No, just no. This was never mentioned at all in Deathly Hallows when Dumbledore's family was a small plot point and I can't articulate it but it annoys me that Rowling is just going back and rewriting "history" (if you will). Obligatory fuck Johnny Depp. Thank you for coming to my TED talk 😂

lupincat, I'm with you. Especially on the Dumbledore nonsense. I refuse to accept it as canon. It's an alternative timeline where the Dumbledore's had another child after Ariana was attacked.

I am dredging up this old thread because I just saw the movie. As a FB movie it was good. As a movie in general it would have been really hard to follow if you haven’t seen any of the HP or FB movies.
I do not like Johnny Depp as Grindewald but I sort of ignored it. I really don’t like the where they went with credence and I hope that Grindewald lied.
I don’t like the McGonagall bit. But I looooooved all of the other last name references. Travers, Mclaggen, Lestrange and the rest were a fun tie-in to the future. Newt may be my second favorite character in JKs magical world.

The McGonagall bit makes no sense since she'snot even born until the 1930s. Maybe it's her mother or aunt? IDK, but it doesn't fit
