sunshiney1. Never used them (I like the Dr. Brown's bottles) but I've been interested so I'm enjoying reading people's comments on this! 2. I don't know if it's unrealistic, per say, but having at least two of each is way more convenient. 3. The first post-partum shower was heaven so I brought travel sized fair and body wash with me and the second time, my own towel. But I don't know if the rules are different in that regard if you have a c-section. Hair ties are a must for me but anything to keep hair out of your face works. The first time, I way over packed, even after trying to stick to the basics. I also made sure to have a nice, nursing friendly cardigan for when I had visitors. 4. Definitely does not need heated unless your water isn't good. We bought cases of water bottles from Costco and kept them at room temp. If we needed to pre-make bottles, we kept them cold and didn't worry about heating them. Neither boy seemed to care. 5. I'm no help here, really, because I've never had a c-section but I'm all about the K'tan during the newborn/small baby stage.

Questions for experienced mamas! 1. Anyone use glass bottles? This was my plan (hate the thought of heating and sterilizing plastic over and over) No experience with glass, and I may get flamed for this, but I never sterilized our bottles. I just ran them through the dishwasher 2. Is it unrealistic to have just one protective mattress cover and one protective changing pad cover? I ended up just going without changing pad covers... I think bc the one we got was stained almost immediately. 3. Was there anything surprising you were glad or wished you had in your hospital bag? I wish I had nursing pads! I stayed in the hospital way longer than expected with postpartum pre-eclampsia. My milk came in and the hospital didn’t supply them. I was basically soaked all the time. It was awful! 4. For those who formula feed, does it have to be warmed? I BF, but we learned when DD went to daycare that she was super particular about temperature- would only take bottles basically scalding hot. So it seems that if you can get your kid to take formula at any temperature that would be way more convenient 5. Any thoughts on good carriers/wraps post c section? I loved the Boba wrap for early on Thank you for your wisdom!

sunshiney1. Bottles I never used glass bottles. I also didn’t sterilize our plastic ones other than running them through the dishwasher. 2. Protective covers I don’t think it’s unrealistic but I think two of each would make life easier. 3. Hospital bag Definitely bring something comfy to wear that has easy nursing access (e.g. button up). Lots of hair ties and/or a good headband. Nipple cream if your hospital doesn’t provide it (mine gave me lanolin). And do not forget hand lotion and lip balm or chapstick!! Hospitals are dry AF and the constant hand sanitizing wreaks havoc. 4. Warming formula I don’t have first hand experience but several of my friends who FF always had their bottles on ice when we’d be out somewhere. So I think it’s a matter of preference and not totally necessary to warm. If you start out BF and switch to formula though, I could see how warming it would make the transition easier? 5. Carriers/wraps I don’t know specifically about post-C section but most of the carriers I’ve used (the Lillebaby, k’tan, and Ergo) all have the baby sitting pretty high in the newborn carry so I would imagine they wouldn’t irritate the incision. The Lille is my favorite of all btw.

So I just looked up the Zutano baby booties that are so loved here - they're so expensive! Are they really worth 4x the price of competitors'? Would one in a size be enough? I'm torn! Thank you!

sunshiney , they were literally the only thing that stayed on DD's feet as a newborn (including socks). So they are worth it for me. Don't get more than 1 pair per size -- they outgrow them in 1-2 months. ETA: It's a go-to shower gift for me even/especially if it's not on the registry, along with a gift card or whatever else. People always get back to me saying they're using them a lot.

sunshiney we had a pair of knock offs for DD and they were great. I have a pair of knock offs on our registry for this LO too because I’m cheap 🤷🏼♀️

We picked up a new infant seat because the old one expired, another Chicco. I want to buy some decor for baby's room, and I have been going nuts shopping for clothes... Oops. Otherwise we have everything.
One of the best things I buy and use are chux pads. I use them in lieu of changing pads because they're disposable. They're great for public restroom changing tables (or floors if you're stuck and in a pinch). I just get a box of 100-200 off Amazon and keep a few in the diaper bag and car at all times. I even use them around the house sometimes. Also good under sheets when potty training older kids!

Here are some of my favorite items that we had for DS:
•A variety of sleep sacks/swaddles – We ended up using SwaddleMe wrap sacks until he graduated to standard Halo sleep sacks, but it took some trial and error to figure out what worked for him. •Sound machine – We started with an affordable HomeMedics version before picking up a Dohm at a consignment sale. I love the Dohm, but the first one definitely got the job done. •Muslin swaddle blankets •Nose Frida •Rock n Play •Baby K’tan carrier •FP rainforest play mat and FP sit-me-up seat •Lots and lots of sleepers. This child will be in pajamas for a long while.
RE: mattress covers – one of the best pieces of advice that I was given is to double-layer your mattress covers and crib sheets. When LO has a blowout or spits up in the crib, you can just strip the top layers and throw them in the wash without having to change all of the bedding. Changing sheets at 2 am isn’t fun for anyone.

This time around, here are a few new things that I’m looking forward to trying:
•Ubbi diaper pail – Our diaper genie was fantastic until we had to throw it away because of the smell. That said, we didn’t have to toss it until we’d been using it for almost 2.5 years, so I think that we had a pretty good run and definitely got our money’s worth out of it. •Backpack diaper bag – It seems like these were just really becoming a thing after I had DS. I ordered one last weekend that I’m super excited to use (I also switched my work bag to a backpack, and while I feel like a kindergartener, it’s soooo much easier to tote my stuff around). •New monitor – I’ve been over-thinking this one for a few months. Our current monitor is a vtech and works fine, but it won’t expand to two cameras. I’m thinking about ordering the Infant Optix with my registry completion coupons, but the $$$ gives me pause.
And I clearly need to order a pair of Zutano booties for this kid!

CharlieB I’ve been overthinking the monitor situation too. I put the Infant Optics DXR-8 on my registry this week and will likely use the completion discount to purchase it as well. It’s so pricey and I’m cheap but it seems like a good monitor overall. If anyone else has recs on a good baby monitor I’m open! I don’t want it to connect to my phone or use WiFi or anything. I’m looking for something with basic picture and sound. I don’t want/need many features but I’d like it to be able to connect to multiple cameras (we still use one for DD at nap time but will mostly use it for baby) as well as two way communication.

I found one on Amazon that was certified refurbished and was $35 cheaper plus the 15% discount.

We still need a lot of things. We aren’t having a shower because we live away from family but my SIL is throwing us a virtual shower. She’s sending out baby announcements with our registries to family and friends. Anyone we would have invited to a shower had we been able to have one. I feel like I need to wait and see if we are gifted things we need but I’m also getting antsy to get all settled!

CharlieB yes, please do! strawberrykiki same here! We haven’t purchased any diapers yet because I know people will gift us some at the baby shower and I don’t want to deal with returns if I don’t have to. So glad my baby shower is this coming weekend so we’ll know what all we’re getting and can figure out what we still need to buy. Waiting is tough!

Baby gear question: we got 2 play yard sheets at the shower, and they don't seem to fit snugly around our pack and play mattress. Is that normal? The sheet comes underneath quite far. I think they're supposed to be size compatible but DH and I are wondering about safety, especially because we'll be using it as a crib in our room at first. Thanks!!

We did encounter that issue with different brands. I thought they were all the same size, but no (although our issue was the sheets were too small). They should fit somewhat snuggly.

redhead610 No, different brands. The play yard is Graco and the sheets are some Target brand I think.

They may be sized for the mattress that fits in the pack n play Vs the mat that comes with it. We had to get those for daycare to fit their cribs and cots

We have the Graco brand sheets ( these) and they fit snugly. I do think the snug fit is important at the newborn stage.

So we’ve only had the monitor for one night, but it’s a definite improvement so far over the vtech we’ve been using for the last few years. The picture quality is better, and the screen snooze function actually works. It was nice to sleep without the screen’s light next to my bed all night. The remote pan/tilt is handy. The best perk is that the night vision doesn’t have the red lights that the vtech used (they really creeped out DS). Now that DS isn’t confined to his crib, I’m waiting on the wide-angle lens to arrive so that we can see his entire bedroom.
