guster , she is beautiful. I do find it odd that her family she rents from wont let her have the cat. It makes the cynic in me wonder if the cat has litterbox problems. Unless there is a severe allergy that the IL's have, it just seems odd they would ask her to part with a 9yo cat. When my friend was looking for a place, most house rentals refused pets, whereas in apartments you just had to pay a fee. It prevents the owners from having to replace carpet and such if the next renter happens to have allergies to animals. Plus, you never know the cat could tear at the carpet or have the occasional hairball that stains.

Out of 14 invites for M’s class, I only had 5 rsvp. I figured a few might show up, but the ones that didn’t rsvp didn’t show up. I’m glad I invited other friends from his old school and we had family in town. We had about 12 kids, which was a good number. It didn’t get too out of hand and the kids had a blast.

Hi! I’m at work and it’s slow. I need to start thinking of how to make M’s actual birthday special. I know I want to do something for him when he wakes up, a special breakfast treat and something when we get home after school. What traditions do you all have for birthdays? Anything special you do? I need ideas. We decorate the night before: Balloons, happy birthday banner, tacky centerpiece, themed paper goods, birthday hat. I put out some smaller presents, candles in their breakfasts. This is exactly what do, plus we both get them up (usually it’s just me) and we sing and dance to Naive Melody.

mwhip hope your FIL is ok lfig hope today’s appointment gets you some answers. I planned to drop off my car for an oil change/tire rotation and walk home but it’s raining. We would have had a quiet night but DS is now playing hockey for a middle school team in addition to his club team and he has his first game tonight. I have a sitter because the game starts at 8:30 so it will be a late one. He’s going to look so small because some of those 8th grade boys are big kids. Our city doesn’t have a team so he’s playing for another town. Tomorrow is gymnastics from 6-9, PTO meeting from 7-8, and hockey from 8:45-9:45. I have another dad taking him to hockey and I think I’m going to ask someone to bring DD home. DD’s next gymnastics meet is 10am on a Friday. The other parents are mad and I’m all like yay, at least 2 of my other kids can be at school during it. xolastunicornxo I tell DH daily it’s not fair that he can have more babies and I can’t. My doctor told me during my Csection that she’d approve me for a 5th. My kidneys told her to shut the f up.

@ladeedah we decorate the living room, balloons, banners etc. I also make a cute collage from pictures throughout the years, if I’m lucky I can match it to the theme. So for example last birthday ds wanted a zoo birthday, so I got tons pics of ds in the zoo and made little posters of them . We have a small table that we put presents on and sing to them when we get them out of bed.

H’s birthday is the day of her party so the things I would normally do (special dinner, open a present) won’t happen this year. Since it’s a saturday I think I’ll have DH get donuts, usually I make pancakes.

joelies , RSVPs are the bane of my existence. We had at least 60% of people not even respond. It's so annoying. How hard is it to send a text saying no? I was glad we ended up doing a joint party at the skating rink and rented out the whole place so it didn't matter as much, but it's hard to plan for food and favors when you don't know how many will be there. Preach. Honestly the RSVP thing is one of the main reasons we aren't doing a big party this year. We have so much else going on in the next 3 weeks and I know myself well enough to know I'll be stressing about #s, who's going to show, who hasn't responded, etc. If we'd been in school with these people longer and I knew more of the other families, I might feel differently, but I feel like it's super easy to blow off a (relative) stranger.

MH and I try to take off/take half days on the kids birthdays and do something fun..play place, hands on museum, ect. Dinner, cake and presents. C's cake this year was just the leftover cake from his party.

No formal birthday traditions. They get their gift from me and sis on their actual birthday. They get to run the show. They pick all the songs we listen to, they pick where we go to dinner. If feasible I take a half day and on their actual birthday take them to do an activity of their choosing. If not feasible to do on their birthdate we'll do it on the weekend.

lahdeedah RE: birthdays, ours are pretty standard. We do a special breakfast (basically whatever the birthday boy/girl requests), I have some balloons tied to their chair, and then I make their favorite meal or we go out to dinner. This year C's birthday fell on a weekend so we opened presents early in the day, but normally I would save them for the afternoon/evening. One thing I've seen that I thought was sweet was a special personalized birthday plate. (Yet another Dallas) blogger I follow recs this Etsy shop but I'm sure you could find others. I might order them for next year--would make a great baby/1st birthday gift, too!

I mean, I will sing happy birthday to them. Maybe give them a few extra hugs. Ohh and I let him carry his cupcakes into school. He really likes that. #MOTY.

We did the same - a mix of daycare friends (and their siblings) and the kids in his class. I know from past experience not to expect day care families to show up unless they RSVP'd but I don't know the kindergarten kids' families, so who freaking knows? They'll play on the trampolines, eat some pizza and inhale cupcakes - how bad can it be?

It was a family one...I liked that tradition, thanks for the reminder! Last year N got tubes on her b'day, so I think we have a low bar to clear in order to make it better😂

My mom and I took the boys to Walmart and as we're leaving J is talking a million miles a minute and she asks me if I forgot anything. I told her melatonin. We're walking by a mom with a new born and my mom says "see what you have to look forward too?" and laughed. The mom responds "Oh I have a 5 year old, I know all about that life. And I think forgetting the melatonin was a mistake!" LOL

FFC: I keep seeing articles on which celebrities lost homes in the fire. What about the regular people? You know, the ones that can't just turn around and buy a new house.

Hi all.
My SIL left yesterday and I sent the kids off to daycare this morning and cleaned every last inch of this house; scrubbed walls, kitchen cabinets, all 3 bathrooms and tubs, vacuumed, mopped twice, dusted everything and did every single last bit of laundry. Ran a few errands of returning a few things and got J and our neighbours kid Christmas gifts.
I’ve got a couple hours before I have to get the kids so i’ve put on a Christmas movie and having a hot chocolate with the fire on. THE BEST.
