I'm back from a delightful weekend away from news. It waa much needed.
I was trying to read last night but has Sinema officially won? I am so happy for AZ if so.

Trump is calling to invalidate all the votes in Florida that were counted after election night and to place Scott and Nelson in office regardless of the actual election results. As of last night, only Delaware had certified its election results. IT'S ALMOST LIKE COUNTING AND VERIFYING VOTES TAKES TIME. Night of results is actually a more recent phenomenon and we should stop demanding immediate results

On the photo: kid not doing it in the upper right, with the grey jacket, is an openly gay student named Jordan Blue, who is, by accounts, pissed as hell. He's been tagged into the convo I'm having with family, so hopefully I can get more insight. The general consensus is outrage at the parents and photographer. Kids are largely being glossed over as "not fully understanding what they were doing". 😒 Yet another example of white teenagers being given a pass on atrocious behavior.

It's just high school. (Hopefully that came across as sarcastic and not serious)

Jordan's Twitter response to the photo. Glad he's publicly not giving his classmates a pass.

Someone yelled white power in the hallways and another person went to admin. Admin said they couldn't do anything because it was protected under the first amendment.

I mean, technically, it probably does fall under First Amendment protections and when you enter a school as a student, you don't lose your F.A. rights, though there can be reasonable restrictions so as not to interfere with education.
I don't condone what was said and I do think that actions should have been taken. Freedom of speech doesn't equal free from consequences and not enough assholes realize that. There should have been consequences.

And many of them probably learned this hate from their very grown up parents.

Too little too late imo
it should not take a photo of 50 kids doing this before their jr prom to make a school aware of a problem. OBVIOUSLY its an ongoing thing, furthermore since it appears it was PARENTS taking the picture (and I use plural here) a letter home to the said parents isnt going to do squat and will probably encourage more behavior like that.

If any of the students at that high school who have experienced discriminatory harassment at school wanted to/realized they could, they could line up a lawsuit against the school in a hurry for the school enabling an environment where students are not receiving an equal education and do not have a safe environment. If not because it's the right goddamn thing to do, the school SHOULD have stopped this a lot sooner at the very least because it's a major financial liability to allow this level of harassment continue at the level it's proceeded it at, obviously for quite a while. I seriously hope the ACLU is looking into getting involved in this.

I'm at like a 50000000000 over Trump's "call off the election and just make Republicans the leaders!" tweet and the fact that GOP officials and media seem to be...very much NOT at a 5000000000000 over it. Is this how far we've come? The president can basically threaten to suspend election results because he doesn't like them, and we're all like, "lol just another day." I'm right there with you.
I think it was Ana Navarro this morning talking about how she was glad AZ wasnt taking the bait from 45 on this shit.
And that Rubio and Nelson worked well together and thats why he was quiet leading up to this and now he has cover and can spout the same shit the pres does.
Which great, thats fair and quiet coverage but WHY ARENT YOU YELLING ABOUT THIS ANA

I don't condone what was said and I do think that actions should have been taken. Freedom of speech doesn't equal free from consequences and not enough assholes realize that. There should have been consequences. Almost all schools have prohibitions against hate speech written into their codes of conduct, which often students are required to sign, so even though they may not lose their first amendment rights, discriminatory speech and preventing other students from having a safe learning environment has historically been considered outside 1a protections. I have a kindergartner and we had to sign a pledge about inclusive language and harmful language. I mean, it’s probably non binding but at least it shows the school district thinks it’s important.
