Can Team Pelosi expand on their reasoning? I'm genuinely curious. As I said, she's incredibly effective at what she does. I don't care if people don't like her because she's an old woman who's had too much plastic surgery or if people want to lay the blame for everything wrong with the Democratic party on her. People don't vote Republican because they hate Nancy. They vote Republican because they hate Democrats, and Nancy is the very embodiment of an effective, accomplished Democrat. I get frustrated with how everyone wants to lay all the ills of the Democratic party at her door. Most of the criticisms leveled at her boil down to: she's old, she's a woman, she's "unlikable" (because she's a woman), she is "too establishment", and given that the one leading the charge to oust her and the front runner to replace her is Tim Walking-Jar-of-Mayonnaise Ryan who has done little to distinguish himself in Congress beyond whining about Nancy and managing to stay fairly popular with racist Trump voters in his district, I'm just not sure I see a reason to replace someone doing a solid job because...people have a problem with women. Thank you for articulating what I couldn't put into words.

I take your point. I'm not saying that the status quo of refusing to work with the other side is Democrats' fault. I just struggle with how to move the needle on the divisiveness. Ousting Mitch McConnell would be a good first step. He will go down in history as one of the most partisan, obstructionist Senators in US history, who did untold damage to America's democratic norms during the Trump years. nothing would make me happier...except maybe ditching 45 in 2020.

We can’t not put up bills. I don’t care if the Senate votes every single thing down or POTUS vetos every single one, congress under the Dems has to be productive and produce actual stuff. Investigations or not, bills must be drafted and voted on to fix America’s top issues to differentiate us from the “what the fuck have you down for me, an average American?” GOP. An effective majority leader is the number one ingredient in that for me. I’m sure there are other Congress people who have that ability and I would love to see it. But right now. I’m 2018-2020, with this nightmare, I’m betting on the one who has done it before.

I'll fully admit I feel personally protective of Nancy Pelosi. I'm not at all opposed to her Speakership. I'm completely open minded. But I feel a certain affection toward her bc she saved my family from an uphill battle against having numerous preexisting conditions

I’m team Pelosi for the reasons listed above. The only reason Why I’d consider wanting someone new is because the gop uses Pelosi as a talking point. But that would be bullshit that a strong woman would lose her job because the gop hates her so no, I’m full team keep Pelosi.
She gets the same treatment Hillary got. People talk shit on her why? It’s because she is a strong, take no shit woman who is good at her job that people see as a “male job”.

Pelosi is effective in gathering her people. She can go from the most progressive to the most moderate and get them on the same page. This is going to be even more of a necessary skill with the newest Congress people. You’ve got Shaun King on twitter telling these new Congress people to not move towards the middle once they get to Congress because they ran on a progressive platform and they need to stay true to that. The pressure on them is going to be unreal. So when the Dems want to work with GOP on anything, they are going to put up bills that are compromises. We need a majority leader that can take a freshman, idealistic Congress person and explain why they need to vote for a compromise bill to get something done and then turn around and tell a moderate Dem the same thing. Plus she can more than stand up to Trump. See this is where you're talking with reason and patience and I see a lot of screaming from self proclaimed progressives trying to throw the baby out with the bathwater. Antiestablishment sentiment led to Trump in the GOP.

I mentioned reading an article about her in NYMag (I think; it may have been another magazine. I have...a lot...of subscriptions.) where she was unapologetically ambitious and I loved it. Men never have to apologize for their ambitions or being ambitious and I love seeing women take the same tack.

I'd like to see laws passed requiring a certain amount of non-fundraiser constituent contact for elected officials.

Except for short "office hours" in the middle of the day right before the ACA vote. Then he hid on the roof rather than actually talk with people. Yes, I am still angry.

My rep didn't hold one damn town hall that you didn't have to get tickets for and the tickets were not free. I tried to get some for one and was denied even though there were plenty left and I could have afforded them. No cherry picking there. 😒
I mean, I didn't really want to give him money anyway, but I would love to talk straight to his face. Coward.

For some perspective, Dr Blasey Ford has now moved four times and us still paying for security due to threats. She has not yet been able to return to work

To be fair, any new leadership would be the target of immediate attacks from 45, Fox, et al. By next election cycle they'll be the GOP'S public enemies #2 and 3 right after whoever's the presidential nominee.

Pelosi and Schumer are bogeymen to the GOP faithful because they are strong leaders who get shit done. They are tough and they are liked by their constituents - they can take a flaming and keep on going. I’d rather keep them in that position right now with the current acrid atmosphere that the GOP bring to Congress than risk burning out younger, more vulnerable Democratic talent. I do hope the Dems are preparing some of their younger members for these future leadership positions. Preferably in 2020, under a Democratic president.

I am late but I am also Team Pelosi:
1 - I don't know who else there is to replace her right now and be as effective. 2 - Holy shit can she whip up a vote. 3 - Holy shit can she fundraise for the Democrats. 4 - Healthcare. Healthcare. Healthcare. 5 - I also think Trump and Republicans, are terrified of her, because of her skill set.

Any news on the Arizona or Florida senate races? Sinema is still up by about 9000. Some counties reported today and she lost like 200 but she’s still up.

Oh hi, I'm just here to share Twitter threads about Nancy. Nancy Pelosi stopped Social Security privatization, got Blue Dogs to vote for the stimulus package, brought us the ACA, secured the votes to uphold the Iran Deal when Democrats were a minority, was a fundraising juggernaut this year, and presided over huge gains for House Dems.
Chuck Schumer is pretty bad at his job, seems pretty content on selling us all out on Facebook, presided over a net loss for Senate Democrats, and made a deal with Mitch McConnell to fast-track 15 of Trump's judicial nominees.
The fact that there's a national debate over whether the most effective House Speaker in recent memory should be allowed to be Speaker again while Schumer got re-elected Senate Democratic Leader today without an equally energetic national debate is misogyny in action

Didn't Tim Ryan run against Nancy before?
We need to have Nancy because Trump is scared shitless of her. I don't think anyone else in the caucus will be as effective against Trump.

I dont remember, but there are 17 dems who have publicly come out against her. Apparently its typically done in secret ballot and the caucus has to vote as one on the floor? Thats what they were saying on the news this morning.
I need a lesson on this.
Nancy has done a LOT and I dont think they truly appreciate how much work she has put in.
