Specifically, DIY planners.
I'd much rather do that than purchase one already made but I have NO idea where to start! I love the idea of putting whatever I want in it.

Have you looked into bullet journalling? There are a ton of great examples on pinterest, instagram, or youtube. In the thread recommending people to follow there are some are good recs there to get your started. All you need is a pen and notebook.

Highly recommend a bullet journal! Other planners never suited me.

So I bought a binder/case whatever you want to call it, a5 size and then bought printables on Etsy to make my own. Then I wanted to switch to hourly and I designed my own and printed them. I really like it. If you are going to print your own I highly recommend at least 28 lb paper, I prefer the 32 though. I also have one of those straight arm cutters (no idea what they're called) and a hole punch. I also make a lot of stuff for the planner using my silhouette. My binder: Blank(undecorated) weekly page: Blank monthly page: (purchased from paperlykiss on Etsy) Dividers I made on the cameo: I have the regular planner section, then a section for this fitness challenge I'm doing, a finances section, a gardening section and a misc section and blank pages and blank dot grid pages (my favorite for notes, etc) at the back.

thelittleredm, This link is from the original Bullet Journal creator. It's the basics, but a lot of people have adapted it. This link is part one in a series that people have found helpful. This link is another basics video from a pretty popular bullet journaler.

I highly recommend just looking around and seeing what speaks to you. There is no right or wrong way to plan and no right or wrong planner.
For me, I evolved from a pocket monthly calendar with a personal notebook in my purse. Now, the planner replaces those two things so it's a win win for me.
For me, I need a little more structure than bullet journaling gives me or maybe I am lazy. Some ladies have planners and insert graph papers for bullet journaling.
You can basically do whatever.
