How old is your LO?: 4 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going?: Nursing and pumping 3x a day at work.
4-8 mo Any teeth or signs of teething? Is it affecting BF?: He's been drooling a lot but I don't feel or see any teeth yet.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going?: Being at work is fine, but the morning/evening routines kinda suck. My 3-year-old is tantruming left and right and the baby cries whenever you put him down so it's always kind of a disaster.
GTKY: what’s a song that makes you smile when you hear it?: anything caspar babypants

How old is your LO? 10w
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing. Short term goal is to get to 4 months, long term goal make it to 6 months.
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you? What are you struggling with? We do many different positions, but most often football hold. We use a boppy and firm pillows for elevation.
Biggest struggle is weight loss. I want to lose weight, but need to eat so much to maintain supply. My time horizon goals are because of this. I am at an unhealthy weight.

How old is your LO? - 4.5mo
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? - nursing & pumping. He had his first real cold this week which led to missed nursing sessions, pumping to keep up supply, extra nursing sessions once his congestion loosened.. I’m back in oversupply as a result I think. Ugh.
4-8 mo Any teeth or signs of teething? Is it affecting BF? - nope

Hi ladies! First time joining an actual check-in here 😊
How old is your LO? 6 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing - it's going well!
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you? What are you struggling with? I get her latched using cross cradle, then I switch arms and we get comfy in cradle. For props we just use whatever pillows and blankets are laying around! She's been pretty insistent on using me as a pacifier lately so that's been a bit much. She hates actual pacifiers. Only other struggle recently is to stop questioning myself and trust that all is well when I have no legitimate reason to think otherwise.
Questions/AW?
GTKY: what’s a song that makes you smile when you hear it? The first thing that comes to mind is Take on Me by A-Ha! Lol

How old is your LO? 4.5 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and I've had to start supplementing. My kid is tiny but boy can he guzzle it down. I had a good 80 oz frozen and he ran through that in just under 2 weeks trying to keep him full. So the plan right now is to nurse him until my boobs are empty and then fill him the rest of the way up with either expressed milk or formula if I don't have any pumped.
4-8 mo Any teeth or signs of teething? Is it affecting BF? Yes and yes. He's definitely got teeth buds, but they're taking forever to come down. He's drooling a ton, gets red splotches on his cheeks, chewing on his hands, my hands, his teething ring like crazy. Every now and again I can tell it's really bothering him and he has trouble on the breast.
Questions/AW?

How old is your LO? 7 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing, it’s going well. I’ve also recently started pumping and have built up a mini freezer stash.
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you? What are you struggling with? I’ve never liked using a nursing pillow, occasionally I’ll use one of the sofa throw cushions but usually nothing. I like cradle, cross cradle, and with this guy we’ve gotten into side lying too because he still doesn’t sleep great in his bassinet so often in the mornings I’ll cave and bring him into bed with me. Honestly no real breastfeeding struggles this time, I’m really enjoying the experience. Sometimes I do feel “touched out” though.
GTKY: what’s a song that makes you smile when you hear it? Anything by John Prine (well sometimes his songs make me cry, but in a good way lol). I was so excited to see his nomination for the rock and roll hall of fame.

Hi everyone. This is my first time on this board. How old is your LO? 4 weeks tomorrow
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going?
Nursing. It is going pretty well. Sometimes we have difficulty getting a good latch, but I can correct her quickly. This is babe number two and I am leaking from the other breast when I feed, which I never did with my first. I have a haaka on the way today and hope to collect a little milk if I can.
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you? What are you struggling with?
The my brestfriend pillow is currently our best friend since she latches best cross cradle. I'm struggling right now with exhaustion by the evening, which is when she really wants to nurse constantly-seemingly more out of comfort than hunger.
GTKY: what’s a song that makes you smile when you hear it?
Great question. I can't think of anything right now. Maybe because I'm too tired to think.

How old is your LO? 7 months
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing. He gets distracted sometimes, but otherwise everything is good.
4-8 mo Any teeth or signs of teething? Is it affecting BF? He has 5 teeth. The first popped through at 5 months. He’s bit me a couple times. I did the “unlatch and tell him no” thing, which resulted in a lot of tears (we’re dramatic sometimes) but he hasn’t done it again for a while.
Questions/AW?

Apparently my boobs got the message and have stepped up production. Still have to fill up with a couple of oz of formula once or twice, but less than we were doing last week.

How old is your LO? 12 weeks
Are you nursing, pumping, supplementing? How’s it going? Nursing and pumping 4x per day at work.
0-3 mo What positions/props are working for you? What are you struggling with? We’ve reached an age when thank goodness positioning and propping is less important. We worked so hard early on and struggled that I’m loving finally being able to kick back and nurse easily anywhere. Struggling with pumping stress.
If you’ve returned to work, how is that transition going? Today was my first day back. I hate the stress of worrying if I’m going to pump enough. I pumped exactly 13 oz today and my baby ate exactly 13oz at daycare. There’s no wiggle room. I really hope my pumping volumes increase over time. I only have about 30oz in the freezer. And I know it’s only a matter of time before daycare asks for more volume.
Questions/AW? Tips on maximizing pumping volumes? Right now I’m pumping 4x per day. 7:15am (at home after baby nurses) 10am 12:30pm 3pm
Baby will usually nurse 3x in the evening (5,7,9) and once overnight, usually around 3-4am after 5-6 hour sleep stretch, which I’m loathe to interrupt because it’s the sleep that allows me to function at work.
I’m drinking lots of water, eating as much as possible. I hate mother’s milk tea. Any other supplements I should try?
GTKY: what’s a song that makes you smile when you hear it? Is it bad that I can’t think of an answer because I can only think about kids music right now? The answer is definitely NOT Baby Shark.

teambrink those evening cluster feeds can be rough! It gets better as time goes on. The fourth trimester is in many ways more physically demanding than the third, I think. Evening cluster feeding serves many purposes- setting up a good milk supply for the long run, comforting baby after all the stimuli of the day, and these long and/or close together sessions mean your breasts don’t have time to get really full so the milk is likely extra fatty. www.becomingmamas.com/life-in-the-fourth-trimester/frecklesnbrains hope you’re settling in at work! Pumping can be such an anxious thing. Excepting possibly growth spurts, breastfed babies don’t actually increase milk intake after the first month or so. Your milk just increases in calories per oz. The typical rule is baby will drink 1-1.5oz per hour y’all are apart. Of course it’s a bell curve, so some babies will have more or less. Average intake from 1 month until baby naturally decreases milk intake due to solid foods is 25oz per 24 hours (range of normal is 19-30oz.) Sometimes daycare isn’t on board with this, as they are used to the formula fed pattern of bigger bottles further apart as baby ages. If baby still seems hungry after a properly paced fed bottle and other comforting measures do not work, you can consider is it a growth spurt? If baby is drinking all the milk too early in the day, are the bottles being paced fed? Would baby prefer smaller bottles more frequently (often good for a DCP whose go to comfort is the bottle)? Can you play around with bottle sizes? A bigger bottle at LO’s hungriest time, an oz or so in the late afternoon to tide him over until pick up? Can you nurse at drop off or pick up or both? kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/pumping/milkcalc/Eta- what I meant above with “possibly excepting growth spurts” is some babies get their extra calories during this time by nursing more when y’all are together, as opposed to increased bottle intake at daycare

lily, thanks for all the advice! I have heard that baby doesn't drink more volume over time, though this wasn't my experience with my first son, who definitely started demanding higher and higher volumes around 4-5 months. I fought daycare on it but didn't win and ultimately he developed a bottle preference and self-weaned at about 7 months, well before I was ready. I'm just dreading having the same battle again because I'd really like to BF this baby for the full year. It's complicated though - I hate thinking about my baby being at daycare acting hungry. The mom guilt is so powerful. DS2 has definitely hit the 3 month growth spurt in the past few days and sure enough yesterday daycare asked me to increase bottle size from 3 to 4oz. I had enough milk so I did that today, but I doubt it will be sustainable. The baby isn't helping because he's been sleeping through the night often, thus missing an overnight feed he'd previously been doing. I know I shouldn't complain about a baby sleeping through the night but it means he's been ravenous in the morning. Though it's possible he's making up for it then - he nursed three times in one hour this morning and completely emptied my both of my fully engorged breasts (based on pumping volumes I think I have a storage capacity of 7-8oz). I have tried dream feeding but it doesn't work well. He usually won't latch at all and if he does he falls right back to sleep after just a few sucks. Hopefully this issue is just growth spurt related though and it will go away in a few days. But in any case he's definitely a daytime eater and a very solid sleeper. On weekends he nurses as often as every hour during the day. My first was the same and STTN at 3 months too. I'm sure that contributed to the daycare bottle size battle. I just don't want to f* things up again this time around.

frecklesnbrains I found that drinking a Gatorade a day and eating oatmeal daily helped my pumping supply.

frecklesnbrains you’re doing great. Even when it’s overwhelming, you’re doing great. Will daycare go back down on bottle size once the growth spurt is passed? Are they pace feeding so baby has opportunity to let them know he doesn’t need that extra milk anymore? Bottle preference is so stressful & frustrating as a nursing mom. I hope you don’t have to deal with it this time around.

lily, thanks, it helps to hear the encouragement! I think I'll try to back down on to 3.5 oz bottles soon and see how that goes, or simply send in whatever I've pumped the day before if it falls somewhere in the 3-4oz range. I've been pumping 10-12oz per day, so 3.5 oz is probably sustainable but 4 oz is not. I think he's still in the growth spurt though, based on how often/vigorously he's eating during the times when I'm with him. Speaking of growth spurts, how long is a 3 month growth spurt expected to last? We're going on almost a week. My nipples are so sore from all the nursing, not to mention the power pumping. After my first full week back at work I have to say it's been so nice to be home with the baby this weekend and just nurse. I feel like weekends are a "reset" button. I'm so happy to have the holidays coming up as well.
