Hey guys, looking for anecdotes on when you moved your toddlers from their cribs? We're considering moving my DD this fall when she turns 2 to a toddler bed but I wanted some input from anyone who has already been there!

We moved DS1 at 2.5 because we needed the crib for DS2.
We bought a twin bed and got a rail off Amazon. He's actually done really well in his bed and waits for us to open his bedroom door before getting out of it.

Transitioned our 23mo old from crib to toddler rail (she has a convertible crib) after she climbed and fell out. Made the switch about a month ago. Naps have been hit or miss (she plays in her room during nap time) but bedtime has been pretty easy. She has fallen out a few times with the toddler rail on (since she's a pretty aggressive sleeper) but she hasn't been hurt, only spooked.

We took the rail off the crib (converting it to a toddler bed) shortly before my son turned 3. (He was waking at night to go to the bathroom and it was difficult to keep lifting him in and out of the crib)
We had no issues. It was as though we never took the rail off. He didn't even get out of bed in the morning, just called to us when he was awake.

We plan to move DD to a twin with a rail this summer sometime, so around 21/22 months. We need the crib for number two and she sleeps great in a regular bed anyways, so it shouldn't be too much of a transition I don't expect.

We transitioned DS at around 2.5. We decided he was probably ready when he got super interested in his cousin's toddler bed at FIL's house. Our first attempt was with converting the crib and was an epic fail because he was expecting it to behave like his crib (he kept trying to stand in one of the front corners and fell out a couple of times). He does much better in a twin bed and he mostly stays in bed--when he does get out, it's usually just to retrieve things he dropped. He's perfectly happy to lie in bed and talk to himself once he wakes up until one of us opens his door and turns on the light.

We transitioned at 18m. His crib turned into a toddler bed. I let daycare try it out for a week or two before we did it at home

We went with a full size mattress on a low platform. It's nice to have more room for cuddling and reading books and bedtime stayed about the same level of terrible as it always has been. That's my anecdote about skipping the toddler bead for transition.

Right around 2 with DS. Maybe 2.5 for DD, not sure as it was a few years back.
We just ripped off the bandaid for both kids. My kids adjust to things easily and neither had any issue at all from night one.

We converted the crib around 18 mos because my daughter crawled out one day during naptime. It was a little rough for a while, as she roamed the room a lot and we would find her asleep on the floor or in her rocking chair. Also a lot of banging on the door and crying to be let out. Not sure what changed but she stays in bed (for the most part) now.

I would have kept Dd1 in her crib forever if I could have. She started climbing out of her crib around 2. She moved to a toddler bed at 2 1/2.

That's my anecdote about skipping the toddler bead for transition. We're skipping the toddler bed all together too. I see no need for multiple transitions. If I had things my way she'd be going into the full sized bed already set up in one of spare rooms, but H insists on getting a twin so there's more room to move her toys from the living room to her bedroom.

Following. My 21 month old can throw her foot over the side of her crib, but hasn't climbed all the way out yet. The change is coming

maplebaconbar, cnf, I'm glad I'm not the only one who skipped the toddler bed. We had planned to convert DS' crib to a toddler bed, but we were forced to move last month on an immediate basis due to a bug infestation at our old place (long story), and we lost DS' crib to the bugs. He was 26 months when that happened. When we moved into a temporary executive apartment, all they had for DS' room was a queen sized bed. We decided to remove the bed frame and put the queen mattress on the floor, which is what DS sleeps on now. I was kind of worried he'd freak out going from a crib to a queen sized bed on the floor, but he seems to really like his huge bed on the floor. When we move into our new place next month, we are getting a twin bed on a very low platform and moving him into that. I think it will work out. Fingers crossed!

Our crib converts to a toddler bed but I am in zero hurry to transition R (18 months). I like him contained and he hasn't figured out how to jail break it yet. I would keep him in it until college if he was happy in there.

My kid was starting to lift her leg onto the top rail and I figured she would climb out soon, so a few months after she turned 2 I converted her crib.
I actually had no real plans. One night my parents were here for dinner and I asked my dad to help me remove the side rail. He did and DD was in the room. We said "Look, it's your new bed and you can just climb in yourself" She jumped in and enjoyed that.
An hour later she went to bed and hopped in and started putting her blankets on herself and have had no issues since. She always waits for me to open her door in the morning and come get her before she gets out of bed so the transition was really easy.

It was that easy for us, too. He got out of bed about 2 minutes after we put him down, so MH went in and told him he needs to stay in his bed and that was that. He won't get out of his bed until we open his door. It's hilarious actually, because he'll be hanging off the bed with his feet like a quarter of an inch off the floor, but he won't let his feet touch the floor until we go in there.

I switched DS at 3. He never tried to crawl out and I had anxiety about him being upstairs, so it made me feel better about him being safe from tumbling down the stairs. DD, however, crawled out as soon as she could and I converted her crib to the toddler bed around 22 months. It wasn't a terrible transition. It required a bit of a longer song/rocking session at first, but we got back into our bedtime routine shortly. I have found her asleep in her chair with a book in her hap a few times and have had to move her back to her bed.

Once I got confirmation he would actually sleep like that, we transitioned at home. We've had two rounds of "I'm the boss and not going to bed!" toddler-ness (second one still on going 😭😭) but a knob lock on the inside works wonders. MOTY?

We have kept our kids in the crib until there is a reason to love them. DS1 suddenly started freeking out at age 3 so we converted to a full size bed. DS2 is 2.5 and very happy so we will keep him in the crib until he isn't happy. We don't want multiple transitions so skipped the toddler bed but with DS2 we would have to go toddler bed if we have to do a sudden transition because his crib doesn't turn into a full size bed.
I want them contained as long as possible.

Did not rtmft but still adding my experience. We moved DD when she was around 22 months old. We moved her right to a full sized w a rail. First 2 weeks were great. She was excited about all her new stuff and slept fine. Then all hell broke loose with her wanting us to stay in the room with her. It was like sleep training all over again to get her to stay in the bed and stay in the room.

My kid climbed out of the crib at about 18 months. I took the front off the crib and made it like the day bed and she just got out of the bed the second I put her in. She slept in it literally never once. She only slept with us in our bed because her crib had been in our room and now she was just wandering the room out of her crib. Now we have a 3 bedroom so she has her own room, we have a twin bed and a pack and play in there, which she can also climb out of, but for whatever reason, she doesn't. She has the twin, but never has slept in it, only the pack n play. She will get out of the twin immediately as well of I try to have her nap or sleep there.

We're at 19 months, and she hasn't tried to climb out yet, so no plans to move her just yet. We still bedshare every night when she wakes up around midnight though, too.

We took the side off DS's crib to convert to a toddler bed after he could climb out and fell climbing. We added a rail (the conversion didn't have one) after he kept falling out of the toddler bed while sleeping. We keep him confined to his room with a baby gate and all the furniture is strapped to the walls.

I think we're planning to make the switch around 2. DC has had her sleeping in a cot for months and it's seemed fine. She also sleeps with me in a regular bed from time to time when she's having a "mama" night. We bought a convertible bed and I'm actually kind of excited to see it set up the new way!

We moved DS1 to a bed because we were planning on moving and wanted to have him adjust before we needed to move. He did fine. In fact, I don't think we ever had an issue. It took him about a week before he stopped rolling off the mattress but other than that, he was fine.

We switched DS to a toddler bed (converted the crib) about two months ago. He will be 2.5 next week. We made sure the room was completely toddler proofed and put one of those door handle things on his door so he cannot open it.
We've had smooth sailing. Nap time is usually a little more difficult simply because he's not as tired as he is at bed time, but he usually just reads a book in his bed or plays quietly. He has not rolled out of the bed yet.
