Ugh I hope the ice maker is a simple fix mwhip . Glad he didn't charge you. On that note, I feel like appliances have gotten so complicated/more 'electronic', that they seem to have issues more frequently than older models. It really gives me pause when looking at appliances (for the future house we are still 18 months from buying, ha) b/c I feel like so many of the cool features that seem really great are just one more thing that can break. I'll sit on your bench for this. Also, with vehicles a little.

SAME He has been crying over EVERYTHING. Last night he was crying at dinnertime, like so bad he almost made himself throw up, over... I have no idea? I think b/c MH was holding him and put him down to dump the pasta water out for 2 seconds. I think S forgot how to speak without whining. Every question is a whine. Ugh. Awww, I'm sorry we don't understand whine. If you want something, you have to use your regular voice.

vino I say this about cars all the time. MH thinks I'm ridiculous and not ready to embrace technology! Yeah, my FIL (a car salesman) and I have been 'round on this. I like a nice car and interior, don't get me wrong, but the more you add the more that can go wrong, and the higher the price. Do I really *NEED* all that stuff, and an extra year (or the equivalent each month) of car payments? Probably not. FIL obviously does not agree with me

trtlcrzy It's a KitchenAid brand. How do you defrost your ice maker? Our unit is up in the ceiling of the fridge portion, apparently it doesn't stay cool enough and freezes up (the guy told me this morning), so there is a kit that seals it up better. Yes, too many electrical things are just more things that can break/cause issues.

When we bought our truck, the guy told us if the cost of replacing the computer that runs pretty much everything in a modern vehicle can cost upwards of $9k. Which I totally believe.

Yes, too many electrical things are just more things that can break/cause issues. I take out the bucket, then lay down paper towels and melt it up with a blow dryer. This is mine in the current state of frozen because I haven’t gotten around to fixing it yet. This isn’t even that bad, usually it’s much worse. I think when I finally caulk around the counter in the downstairs bathroom I’ll use some of the extra silicone to try and seal it up more.

trtlcrzy I don't have access to that, easily at least. The ice maker doesn't take up any space in my fridge portion, like it's just somehow up in the ceiling.

The sales person for our appliances basically told her that it’s foolish to not buy the warranty because things are no longer made the way they were and you’re buying yourself peace of mind with the extra cost. She said it was practically guaranteed that the washer or dryer would break within 10 years.

Yeah, the guy that came out today said it's no longer the age where appliances last 20 years, they're basically disposable now. But that when you spend $3000 on a refrigerator, it should last longer than 3 years. H already said if we can't get it to make ice again, we're going to buy a new one. Um, no, we just bought all new appliances that match the handles on the fridge...DNW to have to be on the hunt for a fridge with the right handles now!

We bought the warranty when we bought our kitchen appliances, and I am so glad we did. We had an issue with the control panel on our Bosch DW that had to be repaired, and the Samsung fridge (shoutout to trtlcrzy lol) ended up being declared unrepairable within a year of us selling the house (so it was only 3-4 years old). We never had problems with it but apparently it went haywire shortly after we sold; the new owner called to thank me for leaving all the warranty info b/c they got a check for a new fridge.

I definitely agree that appliances aren’t as good as they used to be. Ours are 5.5 years old and I fully expect to have to replace something in the next few years. (With LG or KitchenAid, although mwhip is making me reconsider the second option).
