I was just recapping a bit from our last check in. (The curse of doing it every other week, I suppose.) sarcaztic10 - how has it been adjusting to the tree nut allergy? elsiemae - how was the Kindergarten awards ceremony? chknma - I don't deal well with tantrums either. Sometimes I think I make them worse with my response. I'm working on this... daily. hawkward - how is the puppy?!?!? Summer is fully under way at this point. So how many times has your big kid declared that they are bored? What's new since our last check in? Does your kid's school or your local library do any sort of summer reading challenge? Will your big kid participate? Does your big kid like to swim/play in the water? (Related: have you done swim lessons?) QOTW: Is there a movie your big kid wants to see this summer? How about you?

Summer is fully under way at this point. So how many times has your big kid declared that they are bored? Eleventy billion. What's new since our last check in? School's out for the kids. DS1 had the best weekend ever with being selected to play in his little league's All Star game on Saturday, and then winning a contest to "steal 2nd base" at the O's game on Sunday. He got to run on the field to actually steal the base in the middle of the 5th inning. Now we have said base on our dining room table, waiting to find a permanent way to display it. It was really, really cool. Between the two days, I had lots of moments of tears in my eyes with just how proud I was of him. Does your kid's school or your local library do any sort of summer reading challenge? Will your big kid participate? Our library does a summer reading challenge. We've done it the last few years but I haven't signed him up yet for this year. It's a good incentive to keep him reading when he'd otherwise prefer... anything else. Does your big kid like to swim/play in the water? (Related: have you done swim lessons?) Loves it. He's a fish. We actually never did swim lessons and I feel like a bad parent for that. I should probably make that happen for all three. QOTW: Is there a movie your big kid wants to see this summer? How about you? Captain Underpants for him. And the latest Diary of a Wimpy Kid. (I wouldn't mind taking him to the latter, because hi Tom Everett Scott.) I just saw Wonder Woman over the weekend which I loved. I don't even know anything else coming out, but I also don't movie much so this is not surprising.

The puppy is amazing! DS1 has been great about taking care of him, and that's translated into helping out more in other areas too somehow. He's a good little puppy. He house trained in less than two days, is kennel trained now, and only gets up once a night, which is nice.
DS1's last day of summer school is Friday. He needs it. He's starting to get worn out. His favorite show is American Ninja Warrior, and last night, he requested to go to bed instead of staying up a little past bedtime to watch it. I'm expecting the "I'm bored" soon though. He seems to have lost the ability to entertain himself lately.
He's about to lose his first tooth, and he is freaking out about it.
There's a summer reading program here. I keep forgetting to sign the kids up for it, actually. They liked it last summer.
He loves water. We need to get him some lessons. One of my "baby" cousins (who DS1 adores) is a competitive swimmer and teaches lessons, so I think we'll take him there a few times this summer when the cousin has openings. The boys have been playing in the sprinkler almost every night since it started getting hot out. We figured out how to place it in the yard so the run off goes into the garden, so the kids are entertained while I make dinner and my garden gets watered.
Both boys really want to see the new Cars movie. We may take them this weekend since it's supposed to be rainy here. I don't even know what's out right now for "grown up" movies!

bored? yes...DD1 doesn't like when I suggest that we throw away their one million toys because "they're not fun anymore" What's new since our last check in? We're having DD1's friend birthday party since being in school...she made the invite list...4 have rsvp'd yes...4 no and 6 haven't even responded! It's really stressing me out because it's this Saturday Does your kid's school or your local library do any sort of summer reading challenge? Will your big kid participate? Yes, we might sign up at the public library movie night on Thursday. I don't think DD will be that motivated...maybe when she's a little older Does your big kid like to swim/play in the water? (Related: have you done swim lessons?) yes, we've been using the sprinkler, slip&slide...swimming in the creek and river....no swim lessons...Might look into them for a winter activity QOTW: Is there a movie your big kid wants to see this summer? How about you? DD1 wants to see the new minions movie for her birthday...Id like to see WW but hat likely won't happen until it can be rented on demand

Summer is fully under way at this point. So how many times has your big kid declared that they are bored? so so many What's new since our last check in? Not much. DS1 has been lazing about but next week starts 3 weeks of summer camp! Does your kid's school or your local library do any sort of summer reading challenge? Will your big kid participate? ai am sure they do but they don't advertise it. We just got the Amazon Rapids app and so far he likes it. I am hoping this keeps up. Does your big kid like to swim/play in the water? (Related: have you done swim lessons?) we did do swim lesssons last year with a private instructor but he still isn't the best swimmer. That doesn't stop him from loving the pool, water park, or sprinkler though! QOTW: Is there a movie your big kid wants to see this summer? How about you? I haven't heard of one we have to see
