For the purposes of this check-in, we will define extended breastfeeding as breastfeeding beyond 1 year. Questions are repeated and suggestions are appreciated! 1. How old is your LO? 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 3. Share a nursing-related success story (something tough you overcame). 4. Is there an age you know you wouldn't BF past? Pregnant & BFing Moms: How are you doing? Any issues with supply, pain, aversion? Questions for other moms? Tandem Nursing Moms: How are you doing? Any current challenges? Questions for other moms? GTKY: Are your kids dressing up for Halloween? What will their costumes be?

1. 2.85 yo 2. 1-5+ times 3. I'd say dealing with food allergies and the very restrictive diet (though is probably the best for me in the long run) and when I lost my supply from stress when DD was 6 mo. 4. Idk. I think I am getting close. My goal had been to wean around her 3rd birthday, but she is always so sick all winter, and if BFing is helping at all, I feel like I need to get her through til spring and then I'll call it done. I know the winter after DD1 weaned was really tough.
GTKY: DD2 is going as a Ariel (it's a like a purple tulle princess dress with shell boobs and a tiara lol) and DD1 is going as a victorian witch.

1. 13mo 2. 2-3 times on weekdays, 4-5 on weekends 3. DS had a tongue tie that we tried for too long to work around before getting it clipped. He absolutely destroyed my nipples, even while using the nipple shield. I would cry when he was hungry because I knew how badly it would hurt when he latched. Thank God for our LC. 4. I really don't know. I haven't set any limits on myself, but I'd like us to get to 18mo and reevaluate.
GTKY: SD (12yo) is going to be a unicorn. DS will be Winnie the Pooh.

1. How old is your LO? 1 year and 3 days! I go here now 😎 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 6-7 times (including 1-2 times overnight 😴) we introduced solids really slowly because he has food allergies (peanut and egg) but now I feel like I've gotten over a little bit of my nerves and we've been offering him more solids every day. 3. Share a nursing-related success story (something tough you overcame). He got really distracted right around 6 months and gets bitey when he's teething, but we are powering through! 4. Is there an age you know you wouldn't BF past? Maybe two? Right now this is working for us. I try to do incremental goals ... So 15 months is the next goal. I don't see him or myself wanting to wean for awhile. This kid likes the boob and I like being able to provide some immune support during cold/flu season.
GTKY: Are your kids dressing up for Halloween? What will their costumes be? Yes! Ds1 (4) wanted to be a dalmatian and wanted his brother to be one too.

1. How old is your LO? 16m 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 6-8 3. Share a nursing-related success story (something tough you overcame). I’ve had mastitis 3x so far. So nursing through that. 4. Is there an age you know you wouldn't BF past? I think personally 3 is my limit. I would just want my body back to myself.
GTKY: Are your kids dressing up for Halloween? What will their costumes be? Superman and Batman

Three on a few months. 1. Bedtime. She has skipped some sessions here and there. Had a bad latch and used nipple shields in beginning. Eh not sure. I prob would have said three earlier but we are almost there and I don’t have a problem continuing. Hoping to let her self wean. Elsa!

1. How old is your LO? 17 months 2. How many times per day does your LO nurse? 2 or 3 3. Share a nursing-related success story (something tough you overcame). I used a nipple shield. Overcoming the guilt and the feeling like I was cheating at this Bfing game. Such a weird thing to feel. 4. Is there an age you know you wouldn't BF past? 2, I think. I'm pretty good with stopping any time. I've been pregnant or Bfing for almost 5 years... I would like a break before kid #4.
GTKY: Are your kids dressing up for Halloween? What will their costumes be? Mil is supposed to be making their costumes. A lemur, A fox and Chase. We shall see if this happens.

@amc, i felt a little sad about DS2 deciding to wean when i was pregnant with DS3... but omg it was ultimately such a relief to stop and then to not have to tandem nurse. i don't think i realized how draining all of that was until i didn't have to do it a 2nd time!

Question: what should I be giving ds2 to drink with his meals? His one year appointment got rescheduled to next week and I've just been giving him water in a sippy cup. Ds1 got switched to wcm but he wasn't still breastfeeding at a year.
(I haven't pumped since March so no freezer supply or anything like that and I nurse on demand -- so he nurses 6-7 times/day)

grumpycat , I just gave water to DD1 (she nursed til 2) since she ate plenty of full fat yogurt and cheese. DD2 has a dairy allergy and will only drink chocolate almond milk, so we only give that occassionally

DS is super into his after school nursing session. He will nurse for 10-15 minutes and even though he might pull off and crawl away after a toy, he SCREAMS when I close my shirt back up. He comes back and claws at my chest and has a meltdown about it. It takes ninja-level redirection to get him to stop. He's been doing this for several weeks and started doing it this weekend after every single nursing session. I thought this might start to get better as he gets used to the toddler classroom and has less separation anxiety. But nope. Help?

grumpycat, water. we used the take n toss straw cups for DS1 and DS2. it's easy for them to drink out of and relatively spill-proof. gingy, hmm, that's a tough bc he's so young. maybe when he gets distracted making a big deal of getting him to look at you and saying, "DS, ALLLLL DONE?" and start to mime closing up your shirt. then if he says no, he can come back and nurse a little more, or if he ignores you, say again, "OK, ALL DONE NOW!" and close up shop. then if he tantrums i'd bust out with some toddler-ese-- "oh no, DS, you're SO MAD! you really wanted more!" etc. then, "do you want to go {read a book, eat dinner, cuddle, whatever} with me?"

G had been asking to nurse all.the.time lately. Like trying to rip my shirt off. And here I thought we were almost done.

Anyone find that they go through periodic hormone changes? Like a period of night sweats and hair loss and moodiness a couple times a year or so?
