Okay so I started my second read through of this the other night. Im taking it much slower this time since I know what happens. I am of the firm belief you need to read it twice as there is so much foreshadowing that its kind of blowing my mind. She is updating and polishing on AO3 and Im trying to be patient but I will probably just read it again when its all finished.

I really enjoy how she weaves Mia into the story. She is the catalyst for so many things but at the same time it feels very authentic. I like that Mia brought everyone together, because she already knew they belonged together. And the Marauder's Map, just a little idea planted that becomes one of the best things ever.

Ugh, I still haven't started this yet! I keep telling myself I will during MOTN feedings but I'm opening it up tonight and leaving it up so I actually start!

I need to reread this too. I read it back to back with a Dramione fic that was recommended here and I was confusing details between the two.

I love what Pandora says about Mia, that she isn't the tears of the Phoenix, she's the song. I see so much Hermione in myself, but as an adult I got away from the rule following and began to become more like Mia. So this story speaks to my adult Potter heart. I love her growing up without having to be the brightest witch and enjoyed it. And I love that she ditched Ron. That always felt forced to me.

And I like that they showed the flaws of the Weasleys. Molly always kind of rubbed me wrong.

And Slytherin redemption! I'm a Ravenclaw but I hated how they made Slytherin very one note in the originals. Without the death eaters and war they were able to show the noble pure blood traditions. I love the bond magic and how well it's explained and how the traditions are deep rooted in magic, not some archaic form of racism and bigotry.

I love love loved the Slytherin redemption. In the originals they are all just jerks, I like how she gave them depth. And it was so cool to see all these small bit characters be really fleshed out.
Dorea Potter is my favorite Slytherin, followed closely and surprisingly by a redeemed Draco Malfoy. I always hated how he kind of got redemption but not really. He gives me life in DOT, and his reluctant friendship with the Golden Trio is everything. Even Snape is more bearable than I would have expected even if he is an asshole.
She really made me look at Slytherins in a new light instead of just House of the Dark Lord. Like, I see myself with several Slytherin qualities and I dont hate it.
And Yes all of the traditions and rituals! That was so cool, I loved how deep she got and everything was so well thought out and well placed. It all fit and made sense. We saw very little if any of that in the original and it was perfection. I also enjoyed Draco scoffing at Ron and Harry for not knowing any of the traditions.

And re reading was so much better because I got all of the foreshadowing with made me giddy, like "I know what that means!!!" and rereading her updated version is so amazing too because she is adding things, but I read it early enough I got to read her authors notes which are not being used so it was exciting to see how things were working in her brain and knowing what her fave chapters were too.
I did cry in anticipation a few times, especially when I knew I was getting close to Doreas death, she ripped my heart and stomped on it. I cannot believe it only took her eight months to write this story.

And I like that they showed the flaws of the Weasleys. Molly always kind of rubbed me wrong. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Same, when I was younger I thought she was just a mother like figure to Harry and I didnt see her flaws until I got older and while she was it was refreshing to see her shown in not such a perfect light. I am still pretty convinced Arthur Weasley can do no wrong though. Giant peach pointed out in the racism thread that the Weaslys were also racist like the Malfoys and I was like wow you're right. Especially Molly Ron and Percy. Ron is such an asshole and it was so interesting how his own redemption was changed in this story with Sirius being with them. And while I never wanted Hermione and Harry to end up together I also had mixed feelings on her and Ron. I loved how he ended up with a pure blood witch and got his shit together. And I always under appreciated how much work it must have been for Hermione to keep up with her class work and doing the boys homework too. I loved seeing her get to live her life and enjoy her life.

Yes. Weasleys don't have the outright racism that Umbridge has but they are the "I'm not racist but..." and "I can't be racist, I have a black friend" kind. Which is very much like so many people. The ones who get offended when you talk about white privilege. I've always thought that since the moment Ron reacted in horror to Lupin. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

And now that I have read it twice I can go back and re read my favorite parts just like the original stories. Or just read it all over again, like I am tempted to just by being in this thread.

And Dobby and Tilly! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Oh yes! That was such a fantastic little twist too. With them being related and then even with the clothes not exactly setting him free but getting him away from the Malfoys. And I kept wondering where Tilly was so seeing her in the end was just fantastic.

And oh man the ugly crying when she goes to see Lily and James graves. Like ohmigod. Even though she knew it would happen I cant imagine that pain, one minute you are with him and the next second hes gone. She wrote that pain so authentically it destroyed me, its getting me now even.

And all the just desserts she served them when she got back to her time. Umbridge and Fudge especially. All that paperwork filed in the 70s, so helpful. And I loved the lines where its like Voldemort and tried taking their love, lives, ect, Mia was going to take their money. Because you know thats exactly how it is.

Oh and I also enjoyed how she made Mia fallible as well, her relationship with Peter was spectacularly done. Yes I almost felt sorry for him. Makes you wonder if she was the catalyst for him turning, like, would he have been closer to them all if not for her. But I think he would have caved eventually due to his nature.
