I thought I'd start a thread for all the questions we have so they don't get lost in the randoms thread. Plus I feel like even though I've done this before I still second guess myself or have forgotten things.
My question: Do you keep track of how many feeds your newborn has per day? Everything says 8-12 feedings a day but I feel like we will be lucky to maybe get 6-7 today. I usually don't let DD go 3+ hours during the day but I don't know if I should let her go longer or not.

I am using a tracker for DS. We usually get about 8 feeds a day since he goes about 3 hours between sessions. It helps calm my mind about his growth, MSPI symptoms, and hopefully not having CF until his appt on the 17th.

I also use a tracking app. I track nursing sessions and wet/poopy diapers. I'll probably keep tracking for another week or two. brenna if your DD is doing well with weight gain I would follow her lead and let her go 3+ hours if she's content with that.

I use and really like the app Baby Tracker. I went overboard with DS1 and tracked everything until his first birthday. But he had weight gain issues so I always wanted to know how he was doing. Plus I just like data. 6-7 feeds will be an average, not a daily requirement. As long as LO is gaining ok with enough diapers I would not worry if you don't hit that number. I would also let her sleep. Our ped recommends waking every 3 hours to feed until you have confirmed baby is past birth weight, but once you have take the sleep!!!

I've never really been a tracker with anything. With DD I think I tried to keep track of what side I nursed on each time but that's it. I just nursed on demand and she was a large baby with no concerns. I'm not a data kind of gal and have been very lucky that I haven't had to, so far....Things could always change with this guy though....

pixiepink24 same. I find that tracking everything stresses me out so I just feed on demand and don’t use an app or anything. That said, both my kids have been good growers with no health issues, if there were concerns I might be more uptight about keeping track of stuff. Also, so far the longest DS has let me go between night feeds is about 2.5 hours, I can’t wait for the night when we get a bit of a longer stretch!

I also never tracked with DD. She was a chunky butt and we also nursed on demand. I do with DS as well, I'm just neurotic right now lol. I probably stop after we get through his one month checkup and sweat test later this month.

I’ve found this to be accurate so far. I thought I would share it here so I can find it time to time.
