Hey y'all, Just wanted to introduce myself here. Learned about this board from a former TheBump friend. I was on a Nov2014 bump board that ended up blowing up, and I haven't been in any groups since then. But, I'm thinking about conceiving again and wanted to find a friendly forum to talk TTC and pregnancy and all that. I have a 2.5 year old son who is pretty much an outdoor kid (you know how some people have outdoor dogs). He'd rather play outside than do literally anything else. DH and I have been married since 2009. He works in software and I'm about to start a gig as a professor. We wanted to start TTC a month or two ago, but due to stress (finishing and defending my dissertation) I basically stopped getting periods. Went to OBGYN and found out I was out on my MMR shot, so that put us off another month too. Should be starting progesterone next cycle. Anyone have experience with that? What else do you want to know about me? P.S. I love leslie knope, she's basically my exact personality replicated on TV.

Welcome! My almost 1.5 year old loves being outside too. Congrats on finishing your dissertation! Thanks! I love that DS likes being outside so much. But it's crazy when I suggest he watch TV so I can send a quick email or something and he doesn't want to! What kind of kid doesn't want to watch tv? Lol Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Welcome! Why are you starting progesterone? I was on it during most of my pregnancies.

Welcome! Why are you starting progesterone? I was on it during most of my pregnancies. Since having DS my cycles have been totally crazy. Recently they have been about 6 weeks long. Possibly due to stress? So the ob said that progesterone would help regulate my cycle and support pregnancy. I have had a previous loss so that may be related as well. The nurse sounded like the timing didn't have to be precise re when to start the progesterone. But I didn't ask as many questions as I should have. Do you know if the timing has to be precise? I would strongly urge you to start temping and hold off on taking the progesterone until you know if you have a regularly short LP (less than 10 days) or not.

Would doing an OPK be sufficient? Like if I started a few days after the OPK stopped being positive... temping intimidates me. My toddler is my alarm clock and we get straight up so he can make it to the bathroom. (Recently potty trained) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

You could also try temping in the bathroom when your kid is peeing. Not ideal, obviously, but I've temped (vaginally) plenty of times in the bathroom after waking up needing to pee and my chart was still readable. Might be an option?

Also, while longer cycles suck, progesterone isn't going to make them shorter. If it does anything it will make your LP longer.

My OB suggested that progesterone would get me back to a normal 27 day cycle. Well, I guess we'll see! I'm just imagining vaginally temping in front of my toddler. Oh lordy. When I had to put in a tampon in in-front of him he asked me if it was my penis. Lol.

Depending on how she was intending you to take it, she may have meant for you to essentially be on birth control for a few months in hopes of it helping. I know plenty of OBs who have suggested that to people. Honestly, given what you've said so far, I definitely wouldn't take it. Just because your cycle is 6 weeks doesn't actually mean there is anything wrong with it or that it needs fixed. As the saying goes, don't borrow trouble.

Either way, I at least have some questions to ask the nurse before I make a decision. Thanks so much for the info! Very helpful. The 6 wk long cycle is such a PITA. Before my baby I had a super fabulously regular cycle. But after breastfeeding for a year and a half, and then the stress of finishing grad school I feel like my body just gave me a big f* you. Welcome! I agree with LED, it sounds like you may not need the progesterone at this point. If you can make it work with your wake up schedule, I really recommend temping because then you can figure out what's really going on with your 6 week cycle.
