Come talk about fall, random halloween feelings, or how awesome the second trimester is....or any other thing you wish.

I think I'm finally going to start working out again. I've been feeling more human lately and a little less scared that I will cause something to go wrong. So irrational.

I am trying to work out more too. However, my back is currently pissed at me for carrying two rather large pumpkins around a fall farm festival this weekend so maybe i will run or do some other workout tomorrow. I am trying to stretch my back out today though.

We went and looked at a few daycare’s today to get an idea but have no idea how to decide. Any tips or things I might not be thinking of?

I asked a ton of questions at our daycare visits, but the thing that made the decision was gut feeling. That said, there were things that I wouldn't necessarily think of like weather closure policy that I asked after receiving advice from others. I suggest making a list of all of the questions you have, because you may forget once you get there!

We went and looked at a few daycare’s today to get an idea but have no idea how to decide. Any tips or things I might not be thinking of? Look at the older rooms too, and what kind of "curriculum" or schedule they have too. Your LO won't be in it for a while, but it'll be easier in the long run if you find a place that you like for all stages instead of having to search again in a few years. Security and check in/out process is an obvious one probably, but we looked at a few different ones and some didn't even have a key/card/pad entry and really anyone could walk in 😬 didn't like that. Pay attention to cameras and where they're located as well. Depending on where you are, what's the outdoor play policy? Will they take kids out no matter the weather, or are there limits? (Personal preference on which answer you'd prefer, I think) Are they breastmilk/cloth diaper/etc friendly? Think about what you plan on/would like to use and find out their policy. The daycare we chose would allow us to send in prepared bottles of bm along with a few frozen bags jic, but other centers had different policies. I've heard some centers won't use cloth diapers. If you plan on using glass bottles will they allow them? We didn't, but I had a friend who did and she had a few centers tell her no. Things like that. Do they provide snacks and meals (once they're eating food) or do you have to provide your own? Will they have set class teachers (that you will know) or do all the teachers rotate through all the rooms? Again this is more of a personal preference, but I know some parents who prefer to have 1-2 main teachers (along with a few that rotate) to touch base with. I don't know how helpful these are, we didn't ever end up putting E in the daycare we chose because I quit work before then but these are things either I remember being important OR that I thought about after the fact.

We visited one daycare, that we scheduled, and there was no one there to give us a tour or answer a lot of our questions, just the few teachers leftover in the classroom, to which they couldn't leave the room to show us around because of ratios....it may have been a lovely center, but our experience was not. The one we loved we spent over an hour at, touring and sitting down with the director who answered all our questions and more. Just a totally different feel.

All the great questions pambee listed above and price per week and Hours of operation and if they have openings for your child. Were things I thought about and asked.

We went and looked at a few daycare’s today to get an idea but have no idea how to decide. Any tips or things I might not be thinking of? The basics: Security Outdoor space Outside food or provided Teacher turnover Teacher requirements How do they update you throughout the day Others: How often do the kids move classes in a year Do they provide any extracurricular activities How they handle ratios, esp in mornings and afternoons In the end, we didn’t have a lot of choice since infant care is an rare commodity here. But I am very pleased with the center we are in now. I have my list of things I wish were better, but I never feel that her safety or happiness have been in jeopardy.

bex15 one thing I didn’t see mentioned is that some daycares follow more of a school schedule with a traditional spring break, winter break, week off in between summer and the start of the school year. Others are open almost all year round except the major holidays. Also - wrt to the security questions. Make sure the center has a lockdown procedure and security plan for a terminated employee. We had the unfortunate experience of a recently fired employee threaten to come and “hurt everyone inside.” While the kids were moved out of the room right inside the door, there was no plan in place for what to do with the kids besides that and no plan for the days that followed while the person evaded arrest.

It’s crazy that it’s October already!
I have a daycare that is like 40-50 yards from my office. I put our name on the list when I was like 5 weeks pregnant. A lot of people put their names on the list when they start trying (must be nice). When I put my name in, the director told me that there were already 4 people ahead of me that are due around the same time. I have no idea when I’ll find out if our LO got a spot there. We don’t really have a backup plan, so I hope it works out for us!
It’s not only super convenient, but it’s known to be the best daycare in town with phenomenal staff. Several of my coworkers have their kids there, and they love it (kids and moms).

orangehibiscus I added our name to the waitlist a looooooong time ago and just periodically let them know the date is pushed back. We even get priority since we have an older sibling there. It’s seriously intense here. Wait lists for infant rooms are about 2 years. I should quit my job and just open an infant care place that is people’s in between until they get into a long term program.

You would be full from the get go!

There are a few daycares by us, I priced it out and I think it will be between $3,000 to $3,250 per month for 2 infants and after school care for my DD if we can get her into kindergarten early. (Her birthday's right by the cut off, so she'll either be 5 or 6 pretty much all year when she goes to K.)
I have loved our daycare experience, but at that price point, we will look at a nanny. We tried one for DD and it was terrible - nanny was super unreliable and on her phone all the time.

For daycare questions for infants, I remember asking the following:
-Are they familiar with paced bottle feeding if you BF?
- Days closed/calendar. What happens if you're late for pickup due to emergency?
- How is daily communication handled? (Photos during day, old fashioned written notes, etc.)
- How is potty training handled? For us, daycare did the heavy lifting, it was great.
- Teacher ratio, how they handle breaks, and if they condense classrooms at the end or beginning of the day (not a big deal, but I think more germs are shared this way)
- Kids sick policy, including protocol for fevers, how long they have to stay home, etc. If they get something like pink eye but a doctor clears them, can they come back or do you need to keep them home until no signs? This can add up to a couple days off of work for parents.
- Daily schedule overview. Do they nap on demand or get all kids on the same schedule? How do they handle introducing solids?
- Do you provide diapers/snacks/food, or does the center? Blankets/sheets for nap?
For us, it really was a gut feeling with both centers - we had one early on, and a different one after we moved. The first time, some of the centers seemed like a fire trap, adults not really interacting, etc. The choice was pretty easy. When we switched, both seemed adequate, but one was closer to our house and slightly less $. I never loved it, but it was fine and she was safe, etc. Now DD is at a new full day preschool, and we love it.
Really I think it's best to evaluate all options, gut feelings, price, etc. and just go with it. Otherwise it's hard on parents like me who tend to second guess and feel some working mom guilt. It took me awhile to get there.

Saw a lot of good things listed, ones I will add are: - is there a staff policy for guiding children’s behaviour? Is it based on positive behaviour guidance methods? - what’s the biting policy? You will care about this a lot if your toddler is a biter/is the regular victim of a biter. How do they handle severe biting cases? (Ideal answer is they attempt to 1:1 shadow the child until the behaviour is eliminated even if it means bringing the director on the floor for a few days, worst answer is they kick the biter out of the program) - what are their potty training methods? Do they allow children to move up to programs they are developmentally ready for even if they aren’t developmentally ready for toileting yet?

18 weeks today, feels too good to be true. My anxiety is ramping up a little! I’m waiting on a date for my anatomy scan still. I’d like MH to be able to book the day off and come along. We brought D1 to D2’s anatomy scan and it was so cute (“it not a baby, it a duck!”) but I think we’ll pass on that this time, 2 small kids in that tiny room plus 3 adults sounds like chaos.

I passed my 3 hour glucose!!!! Not that I was worried and I know I'll have to do it again later.
I did find out that I'm a carrier for the SMA gene and now DH need to get tested. I'm trying not to freak out but with having a loss history now my head is spiraling. We found out with my first pregnancy that I'm a CF carrier and fortunately he is not. So I'm hoping this is the case too.

tapdancer that’s stressful to wait through, and sucks you’ve had to do this wait before. Fx your H is not a carrier. It’s about a 2 week waiting time for those results right?

Yes but will probably be longer. When he called his doctor today they said he has to have an appointment with them before they will edit e the lab slip and so he has one for next Friday. I'm trying to be chill about it but we never had a good reason for either of my losses so that's of course running through my mind. I can't change anything now and DD is perfectly healthy so I need to have positive thoughts.

tapdancer, hope the results come back fast and it eases your worries. Hugs. grover, how was your MFM appt? How often are you doing scans for twins? The MFM said every 2 weeks, but the doctor today said 4 weeks is fine for now, so I need to follow up. I'm 16 weeks now.

Eames, Next scan is a/s at 20 weeks, then he wants me to get scanned every 4 weeks after that. He also said around 32 (possibly 30?) I'll go in for 1-2x weekly NST.
