What are your favorite songs to hear at a reception? My DJ is asking for a list.
I LOVE to dance. Not super into Country but SO loves it, as do many, many of our guests. We have a good variety of ages coming but a lot of drinkers/partiers so I want to be sure we have a blast.
What gets you out of your seat?

I like the songs that span the generations and are fun to sing along to
Love Shack Cotton Eyed Joe Fishing in the Dark Shout (the Isley Brothers) Don't Stop Believing Livin' on a Prayer You shook me all night long Can't Stop the Feeling Summer of '69 Save a horse, ride a cowboy Friends in Low Places Sweet Caroline
Slow songs Cross my heart (George Strait) I Swear (John Michael Montgomery) Can't Help Falling in Love (Elvis)
*I included songs on my request list that I knew my family members had used as their first dance songs because it's fun to hear "your song" at a wedding reception.

my husband's friend is a dj and came with awesome rock and soul records... but about 30 minutes in he was buying 90s hip hop songs on itunes because that is what the people wanted.
there was an especially nice dance circle to push it.

We have very eclectic tastes and a lot of wedding reception music was specifically played because we love and knew if people were exposed to it, they’d love it to...
Passion Pit Hot Hot Heat Modest Mouse Black Keys etc...
A lot of fun alternative stuff.
We told our DJ if he was having problems getting people up, to use old school hip hop and 50’s and 60’s R&B
Our DJ was excited about our taste in music and it was utterly fabulous, everyone especially loved the throwbacks!

This is my aesthetic. But I don’t want to be the only one jammin on the dance floor. That was my worry too. So we talked quite a bit about how to get people up if they weren't. I was dumbfounded, Passion Pit has all my friends and family jumping around the floor. They loved it, and 50's and 60's R&B and soul gets everyone moving. The music was my favourite thing about my reception. I'm really happy I stuck to my guns on that one. Also as I got drunker, the teenagers started asking for music that wasn't on my list of okay's...that summer, Party Rock Anthem was a huge hit. So the DJ made them come ask me if it was okay, and I okay'd it because I was happy and drunk. But truly, we didn't need it, the floor was packed all night.

Im a music snob. I loathe typical wedding music with a passion. For our ceremony we used instrumental versions of Pearl Jam, Zeppelin and Lorde songs. Our first dance song was Adam Sandler's "I wanna grow old with you" from the Wedding Singer. We wanted our reception to legit be like a nightclub(sorry old people), so we had a lot of Pitbull, Kid Cudi, Ke$ha, Britney, Jason Derulo, Usher, Justin Timberlake, etc...He played "Bound 2" if that gives you any idea lol We are the exception, I realize that. But people still talk about how fun and different our wedding was years later. I like kittyriot 's aesthetic, I would have loved to go to your wedding!

I will admit, I dislike country too, but I'll be damned if I dont do a little shimmy to that country fried chicken song or whatever it's called. Too damn catchy. I also love Darius Rucker, because Hootie. So, yeah.

I've started listening to the Pop Dance station on Pandora recently and have rediscovered my love for early Rihanna.

I'm more long the musical lines of rachydc but these were a hit at my brother's wedding a few weeks ago: September--Earth, Wind, and Fire PYT--Michael Jackson Shook Me All Night Long--ACDC Jump Around--House of Pain Wanna Dance with Somebody--Whitney Houston Country songs (I'm also not a big country person, but this is stuff that always seems like a hit among my circle): Chicken Fried--Zac Brown Band Country Roads--John Denver Country Girl--Luke Bryan Save a Horse, Ride a Cowboy--Big & Rich Friends in Low Places--Garth

People went absolutely nuts at our reception when the DJ played “Call Me Maybe.” The dance floor was packed. Appeal to the masses with cheesy pop!
