I just replaced my dining room furniture and definitely need a new light fixture. I'm not sure what style I want but it needs to be much larger than what I currently have (and will be hung lower, I know mine is up too high). I would love to keep it under $300 but I'm open to all suggestions. Here's the room, the rest of the chairs will be delivered in a couple weeks. And ignore the artwork, it's coming down.

Are there any styles you know you do not want? There are a lot of different directions you could go in that room.

Are there any styles you know you do not want? There are a lot of different directions you could go in that room. I'm having a hard time nailing down what style I want, which is unusual for me. I'd say no crystal chandeliers and I don't usually like the wooden bead ones (they remind me of anal beads lol) although I do like the one codex320 posted. I think the table lends itself to something a little more rustic but I'd say the rest of my house is more on the transitional side so I don't want to overdo a theme in this room. Here's my living room, which is directly across the foyer from and open to my dining room, just to give you an idea of style (although the rug has since been replaced):

I could see something like this but I wish they had a different finish. Or something like this?

justkeepmoving, I installed it myself and I still stand and stare at it because it's just so perfectly shiny and stylish. I'm so happy with it. I got the smaller size for my large room. I was nervous that it would be too small because all the rules of thumb told me I should get the bigger one, but my decorator said you you want to only see the light fixture in the room or to see everything as a collective whole? She convinced me to get the smaller one.

I have a good sense of what I don't like, but needed help to find options that would work with pieces I had in my living room and dining room. I think we ended up paying her for 12 hours over the course of many months. She also went shopping for decorative accessories and brought them all to my house, returning what I didn't like. I'm going to have her work on other rooms eventually, too.

Pretty new dining room, and I like your living room, too. I would go with something lighter, or a metallic, to show up against your wall color. A dark/oil-rubbed bronze finish is going to blend in. I think I would also introduce some curves to balance your table and buffet since they are pretty strong rectilinear shapes. a few different styles/options...some go over your budget but maybe you could swing it, or find a dupe. Ballard is doing 30% off one item today, too! www.ballarddesigns.com/cherie-chandelier/lighting/indoor-lighting/chandeliers/468912?listIndex=11 I don't know if you've considered TWO fixtures but something like this could be fun in a pair, I like the silver finish www.ballarddesigns.com/carriage-house-chandeliers/lighting/indoor-lighting/chandeliers/167657?listIndex=2www.potterybarn.com/products/venice-chandelier/?pkey=cchandeliers&isx=0.0.10031I know you said no crystal; this does have a bit of beading that dresses it up, but I think it could be really pretty. Another vendor for lighting that I LOVE is Capital Lighting. My all time favorite is Currey and Co, but they are $$$$. A couple Currey designers left and started Capital...very similar look for less. Might want to check them out, they have a nice selection. My dining room fixture at our last house was Capital and was really pretty.

Now that I SAH, I have done some design work on the side, exactly like what Brux described. It's been mostly peers, so it wasn't like these people had huge budgets a la Architectural Digest or Veranda, but they wanted their homes to look polished and pulled together. I think it is more affordable than most people realize, and a designer or decorator can help you avoid mistakes that will end up costing you more to fix/replace long-term.

We have this in our dining room. I got it from a local lighting shop for less than this, but I can’t remember exactly how much. I love it. And as a bonus, when the windows are open sometimes a breeze will make it tinkle like a wind chime. It makes me so happy!
