Question for you guys- do you all plan on doing swim lessons for your N13s or just teaching them how to swim yourself? I had B in a class when she turned 2, but that was more mommy n me funsies. I think I'd start feeling more secure if she learned how to swim for real. I was just wondering the same thing a few days ago. I'm going to try to do it myself this summer and see where her skill and comfort levels lie. If I think there's any kind of hesitation, I'll put her in swim lessons throughout the year to make next summer easier. But if I think she can handle it, I'll just make sure we make some trips to our club's pool during the school year to keep her interested.

A raccoon made it on my shit list this weekend. He is apparently very hungry and clawed his way into our dog food. Whatever. But its in the middle of the night and he's driving the dogs crazy! They woke us up 8 (!!!!!!) times last night barking about something outside and this morning the garbage can with their food in it (sits on the back porch) was knocked over.

Congrats! Enjoy wine without a limit! As someone who drinks wine without a limit, I would strongly recommend to peachsmama, who isn't a drinker, to start slow. Wine hangovers are the WORST. :-) #truth

yummeecookee, swim lessons. We don't have a pool and I don't "swim" so the lessons were a must. There will come a time when she will be in a pool/water setting when I'm not there and I want the safety and knowledge that comes with a professional teaching her.

yummeecookee, we did swim lessons for 6 weeks about 6 months ago. We did the more "survival" type. No songs or dances just getting in and out of the pool, going under water, kicking, and flipping to his back and keeping his head above water. After he learned those skills, we stopped lessons. I intend to start them again when he's older .

Parents are not in the pool at this level where we go. Cadence has been on her own since the beginning. She's learned how to monkey crawl along the wall, climb out, go under water and bounce off the bottom, dive into the pool and glide. She is still working on kicking her feet, back floating, and moving her arms. Once she learns to back float independently she will be bumped up to the next level which involves more of the actual stroke swimming. She loves being in the water, so I'll continue with the lessons, which are year round, until she says she doesn't want to do them any more. Plus, it wears her out so bedtime on swim nights is soooooooo easy.
My niece has been doing lessons since Cadence's age and she is now on a swim team and LOVES it. I'm hoping Cadence will want to continue like my niece has.

There's water everywhere around here and with out a swimming diploma they can't go on field trips etc. Lessons usually start around age 5, used to be earlier, but they found out that lessons stick better and they learn faster when they're a little bit older.

Except the Y and they do limited classes and the schedule is not for working parents.

Morning! Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Sorry the kids are sick, nam. Congrats on weaning, peach! yummeecookee, we have the kids in lessons. That way someone else has to be the bad guy about thingslike putting their faces in, floating on their backs, etc. It has made a big difference in Evan's comfort level in the water (he used to be terrified).

I'm back at work today. My vacation was definitely not a real vacation, since I spent it doing things for everyone else. Blerg.
We were "those parents" at the local farm yesterday. Evan had the worst meltdown I've ever seen because the smoothie bar was closed. He's usually a pretty even-keeled kid so we were shocked.
He kept it up in the car, until we passed by the playground -- he magically stopped crying to tell me about the updates they are making to it, was laughing, etc. Once we drove by he starting up with the tantrum again. I was sympathetic to him being upset until he pulled that shit - no way am I putting up with him thinking he can flip a tantrum on and off like that.
Three year olds are exhausting.

If anyone wants to try Hello Fresh, I have 4 codes for free meals. I'll probably post this on FB as well, but I'll wait awhile. I'd love to try it!

I can't teach O to swim with Z around. She is too much work. I'm going to try this summer and if not will probably put him in lessons this winter like guster.

yummeecookee we have been doing swim lessons on and off since he was 6 months old. Up until January it was mommy and me so just basics. But now he's in traditional and starting to really get into it. Edit tag

So many tantrums lately! For the past few days when V starts having a tantrum, he'll stop and say "I need to calm down." It's hilarious.

That's awesome peachsmama! Yes to the pool nam2013. I hope they feel better soon. mwhip I would love a Hello Fresh code! flamingo I'm jealous of your Maine vacation. I haven't been all year and I'm jonesing! Have fun! yummeecookee we are doing formal lessons. C has done swim lessons three times now. Only the last time was real instructional. His preschool does a half an hour a day of swim lessons in the summer so I'll see where he's at in the fall and maybe do more over the winter. I don't mess around with pool safety and with C being such a daredevil, I figure this is best.
