This place (internet in general too) does have a way of making things sound enticing and appealing when out in the wild I wouldn't have thought twice about them. I rarely jump on the bandwagon because I have the attention span of a gnat and the second I close the tab I forgot about it, but I can see how others would follow suit. IDK if it's necessarily peer pressure or keeping up with the crowd.
ETA: Maybe those are actually one in the same. Peer pressure TO keep up with the crowd. IDFK

I don’t see the point. Because if I wanted something in that range I would’ve specified. Maybe you didn't know you could get all your needs met in that price range? IDK
I am not Sister Eve.
I have no problem just not recommending anything to anyone. The few times I do usually are bypassed anyway.
Okay a good example of this is sunglasses. At the basis, all polarized sunglasses will shield my eyes from the sun. If I give my price range of $400-$600, that means that is what I want to pay and I don’t want $30 shades.

Yikes. I know we always joke about this place being bad for our wallet. But I would really hope that no one would buy something they a) didn’t truly love or b) couldn’t really afford just for an Internet thread. I’ve really enjoyed the thread. It’s light hearted and mindless, which is what I’m here for. I don’t think there is any expectation that anyone has to buy a bag or a certain price range. People are in there buying dupes or just lusting at pics. I do strongly believe people are peer pressured into buying tings they don’t need or can’t afford, just for the internets sake. I blame the Kardashians they are the new Jones

I do strongly believe people are peer pressured into buying tings they don’t need or can’t afford, just for the internets sake. But why do you think that? I tend to assume everyone here is an adult and can decide how they want to spend their money, whatever their budget. I mean, if you can't ask for diapers at a baby shower without people being able to keep within budget, how can you expect them to do that any other time?

Because people will show up in threads and talk about how they bought the xyz item last year based on seeing it here and used it only once or never even opened it.

The supposedly shamed for spending their money people are always going to be louder with their complaints on this subject.
A lot of people are not forthcoming about financial issues so they sit quiet about it.
Some people are not going to say that's beyond my budget guys. They will just abandon thread.

I guess I don't have an issue with more than one bag thread. What if one OP's budget was 500 and the other person's top was 100? I wouldn't want to share a thread. I really feel we need a dupe bag thread, because I like a lot of what I see in the handbag thread but the dupes get lost in with the $500-2500 bags It's one thread. People can't keep randoms out of the UO so I just try to lean in.

I love the handbag thread. 1) I believe it started as a poster asking for a recommendation, she got it, it evolved to all sorts of bag recommendations and searches. 2) in that sense I do feel it has stayed on topic. 3) Am I in the position to go out and buy a Disco bag today, no, but now I know it exists and it is on my “down the road” list. I like seeing all the bags at different price points. 4) some good dups have also been posted there.

I barely post recommendation threads I love the Fall fashion thread and have bought things from there and posted my deals though, but it is because I wasn't looking for something specific and there were a ton of different price points

I tend toward more casual and boho looks and love a good hobo bag, so while I enjoy looking at the pretty things in that thread, most aren't my style. And my style isn't really in style atm, which is okay. I'm happy to spam you all with my recent discount bags from The Sak. 😉

If I ask for hotel recommendations and I want 5 star, and you come at me with AirBnb because you believe it meets all my needs, I don’t mind. I will politely decline and maybe that suggestion will help someone else planning a trip.
What I don’t want is someone continuing to push their AirBnb propaganda because they think it’s the best or asking me “why do you need housekeeping twice a day?!” So, while I won’t kick you out of the thread if you come with a suggestion that doesn’t meet my perimeters, I think you need to respect that I know what I’m looking for and your suggestion or what you prioritize may work for you, but not for me.

It’s also annoying AF when someone states their budget and people come in just to “I would never ...” their price range. I agree. I work damn hard for my money. I won’t feel bad about spending it on $90 leggings Ohhhh got a recommendation?!

Also might be a thought but maybe say I am looking for designer bag or designer glasses if you are set that you want that or that you want to be in a certain price range.

The “baaa I’m a sheep” thing. Also, the J Crew pants etc. I assume that's TIC. I've gotten some awesome recs here, so I do take them seriously, but I don't buy anything that doesn't fit my life. Someone (maybe McBenny?) recommended a dupe for the Amika brush. I came back to it 6months later b/ I had a new haircut and damn, that thing is great.

Sometimes expressions are exaggerations though. I'll say something like "oh I way overspent on Prime day!" and it doesn't mean that I was pressured or that I went outside my means at all. Just that I hadn't originally planned to spend as much as I did.

This makes no sense to me. So we should just move on. People aren’t always looking for the lowest cost option. I am not trying to argue with you at all about it. For me it makes no sense because if you list all your needs and this one meets your needs I don't comprehend bypassing it because it's not high dollar.
So again, we should just move on.
I am all for paying certain prices for certain things. However if I know I can get just as good cheaper why not. So again, it will never makes sense to me.

I tend to assume everyone here is an adult and can decide how they want to spend their money, whatever their budget. Honestly, I think it's human nature to get carried away sometimes. I have absolutely gotten swept up a in shopping thread or two and ordered a bunch of stuff I really should not have. The last time I did that was a LOOOONNNNGG time ago when LOFT was having like a 70% off sale and everyone was posting all of the cute shit they ordered. Was it financial ruin for me? No, of course not, but I probably spent a weeks worth of groceries that day. ....And that is why you will never see me in those threads.

Please don’t confuse me, there are great recommendations here. I have no idea who recommended the Herbviore Blue Tansy mask but that is literally one of my top 5 greatest joys in life. I actually just perused the Sephora thread because I want to add to my face mask collection. There’s great information here.

I hate sleep training threads because the issue is usually a habit they created and are not ready to stop so we're wasting our time recommending shit. Depends on my mood if I participate. This is precisely why I have stopped participating in those threads. 95% the poster is going to KOKO.

I mean, **I could never**, but that is just because I am poor-ish But I absolutely **would always** if I could. The "I could nevers" go both ways.
I remember when someone on my first BMB seemed to feel deeply, personally attacked when I suggested an Uglywhere chair (PBK anywhere chair knockoff) to someone else who didn't have the budget for the real thing.
People most definitely get offended when you offer comparable yet cheaper. It's not suggesting you are a spendy bitch. I might be coming from a but you can get the same for less.
Maybe I miss it cause I am not a brand loyalist (except groceries).

I’m also feel like there’s a difference between buying things you dont need and things you can’t afford. If you have the money for all your needs, as wasteful as it can be - go for it. I don’t begrudge that. If you are going into those threads to front a life you can’t afford them i don’t know what to tell you.
I don’t really go into those threads because I tend to only shop for clothes if I need a specific item. I’m currently still waiting for next paycheck to get my knock off vans. I need a kids rain jacket too. Anyway.
