I'm so sorry guys. My character isn't finished. I got a little overwhelmed and then wasn't even sure what I was overwhelmed with. So I just hid in a fic for a few days. I feel so terrible. I was going to finish today but Hs grandpa is in town so we spent the day with him.
So basically I suck. You guys can start without me and I totally understand. I'm so sorry.

We're a small enough group playing as it is, it will be more fun if we're all starting together!

Do we have 20 points to divide on all of our stats? Or is it 10+ the 20 points divided? The rules say normally you have a base of 10 plus the points you can spend on it. My H is trying to help me now.

My H is trying to help me now. The points per score are on page 46 I think. Basically a 10 is free, and anything larger than a ten is worth a number of your points. Anything less than a ten will give you more points. So everything starts at base 10.

If you'd like, I can help build your character as well. If you want. Just tell me what race/class combo you're looking for, and any focus you would want (ranged, melee, skills, etc), and I can whip it together today.

I am working on it right now with my brother and H. I'm trying to hurry, thanks guys. That's ok. My husband was trying to help me, but he's never played Pathfinder before. Plus he started getting silly and telling me to buy a horse and cart with my remaining money and letting everyone use the cart to carry our items...for a fee. I had to tell him to stop playing my character.

auri , you have 2 points left. I'd suggest bringing your Dex back up to an 8, personally. ETA you also don't have enough hit points. I forgot to mention earlier that it's full hitpoints for first level. So with your current stats, you should have 10, 8 from the die and your 2 from your constitution. Additionally, you can choose a favored class for your character (And always choose the class you're playing), where you can get an additional skill point or additional hit point at each level.

Thanks! I fixed both of those. I have a question about the skills though. How do you get trained in the ones that say they are trained only? Does that mean that we can't pick them as our starting skills? I was wanting to pick Knowledge-Religion, but I just realized it is a trained skill.

Trained only just means that in order to use them, you have to allocate skill points to them. So in order to roll a Knowledge Religion check, you have to have put at least one skill point in it. In order to "train" in something you put a skill point in it. You can put skill points in any skill you want. Additionally, you get a +3 bonus to any class skills that you have trained.

So this is what I have so far. I am kind of worried that maybe I shouldn't play because I am having so much trouble just trying to build a character and I don't want to suck the fun out of it for you guys. I don't really understand how the skills work so I just picked what I thought looked good and I'm not even sure I did that right. And I'm not sure what I need to buy. I know I am making this more complicated than it has to be and I can't figure out why it's so hard for me. Sent from my XT1650 using Tapatalk

mischief, everyone is new at some point and character creation is complicated. We definitely want you to play. As for skills, you get so many points per level based on your class. Those are the points for you to split up. They go in the middle column under ranks. You can have one rank per class level. So at level 1, ypu can put one skill point in each skill. Your class skills are listed under your class and when you put yout first rank into them you get the +3 bonus that goes in the misc column. Each skill has an associated stat (int, dex, etc) that ypu automatically get the corresponding ability modifier for. You then add up those three columns and the total is the bonus you get when attempting a check for that skill. As a rogue, disable device and stealth are important, as is perception. Perception is important for everyone really. Diplomacy and bluff are also good. Really every skill is useful and dependig on how you want to play the character determines how to split them up. As for gear. Obviously, you want weapons and armor. And then you need standard adventuring gear. You should get thieves tools, rope, a water skin, bedroll, backpack, flint and steel, etc. For the rest of it, under cmd you've entered your dex score and not the modifier. It should be 3 and not 17. You have also done the buy system incorrectly. Here's a calculator so you can figure out how much everything is worth. Currently you have spent 26 points. jody-white.com/pathfinder-ability-score-calculator.php

mischief I had some trouble too, but my H said the hardest part is building the character. I've never played before either (so I don't know what I'm doing) and figure that our DM will keep us in check As for items...I bought a backpack, bedroll, blanket, waterskin, some food, flint & steel, and a healer kit. Since your a rogue...I would think you might want to buy some thieves tools.

Yes, character creation is definitely the steepest learning curve.

Mischief, about the skills. You, playing a Rogue, will have more skills per level than the rest of us, and you will have access to some skills that we really won't. Disable Device, for instance, is one that is only a class skill for your class (at least in the Core Rulebook). So that one will be vital for you to have, please. And I'll also lend my same opinion to what everyone else is saying. Character creation is very difficult, to the point that I usually make characters for most of my first timers. Actual play will be much easier. And once you've made 2 or 3 dozen characters, it'll be a breeze.

athn64 or sphen, How do I know how many spells I know? I know that I have to pray every day for my spells and I can have 3 level 0, 1 level 1, 1 domain, and my wisdom of 17 gives me 1 bonus level 1 available to cast. But can I cast (almost) anything on the list? Or am I only given x amount that I know and choose from those?

mischief, Favored class allows you to choose 1 additional hit point or 1 additional skill point when you level up in which ever class you choose as your "favored". If we take the concept that you will not take any levels in another class than rogue, this means every level. Also, as a human, you gain 1 additional skill point per level on top of anything else. You also get more skill points equal to your intelligence modifier. Sooooo, 8 skill ranks from your class as a base 1 additional from your INT modifier 1 additional from being human 1 additional skill or HP from favored class. That is skills and Hit Points. However, there are other things. Your base Armor Class is right, but your touch and flat foot are wrong. Flat Footed is without your Dex modifier, but you still get your armor bonus. In your case, your Flat Footed is 12. Touch AC is without your armor bonus, but with DEX modifier. So 13 for you. But your Saves are all messed up. The base saves for a level 1 rogue are 0, 2, 0. You have the modifier's right, but the base save of a 7 you won't get until much higher levels. Your short sword would do 1d6 damage. The two damage dice listed indicate character size differences (a small character like a halfling would use a smaller weapon, thus doing less damage). Lastly, the star blade and the scarf. You can totally use them, but your class isn't proficient with them. So you'll have to use one of your 2 feats in order to be proficient (otherwise it's a -4 to all attack rolls with them). Good news is that you get an extra feat at first level as a human (in addition to the one every character gets at 1st level).

When everyone is done with their characters, pleas post names, class, race, ability stats, initiative modifiers, and any special abilities for your characters. When all four of you are done, I will start the campaign in the new gameplay thread.

So would I choose 12 skills then? How do the skill points work? I really apologize. I have read and googled and I just feel like its very simple but I cant figure it out. Thats the only thing I have left to do I believe.

And since I already chose two feats, weapons finesse and deft hands, will I be able to choose another feat later on to use the scarves of starknife? Or would it be better to choose that feat now?

You get a feat at every odd level. So at 3rd, 5th, 7th, etc. If you want to take it, you can do it later. But if you want to use the weapon right away, I would take it now.

Thats the only thing I have left to do I believe. You have 10 or 11, depending on if you take an extra skill point or extra hit point for your favored class. You split the points up to put ranks in certain skills. You choose the skills you want to put the points in. You can only have a number of ranks equal to your level, so at this step, you can only put one skill point into each skill you want to train. As a rogue, Disable Device, stealth, and perception would be my top three. Sleight of hand, bluff, and diplomacy are also good skills to have. Really, all skills have their place.
