I'm so pissed at h right now. I just discovered that he dropped a lunch bag with a travel mug in it into one of our never before used graco forevers. The mug leaked into the lunch bag, which then leaked into the seat. The entire thing reeks of soured milk + coffee.
I seriously don't know if I can save this seat because, as it is, I don't think I could get into a car with this seat, much less leave the seat in a hot car.
Shit like this is constantly happening because he just doesn't pay attention to what he's doing. So much shit has been ruined for one reason or another. He got upset today because he feels like I'm always telling him what to do with the babies. (He never notices when they need a diaper change, a bottle, or a nap.)
Sorry guys. I'm cranky and not dealing with my case of hand foot and mouth well.

Ughh yuck that's an unpleasant smell. I don't have one of those seats but parts of it have to be washable, right?

From purely a reeking standpoint, that smell will "burn off." Once all the bacteria has done its thing, the smell will go away. But, it does take a while. A 1/2 gallon of raw goats milk spilled in MH car and even after a thorough cleaning (albeit delayed by a week), his car still stunk all summer. And then there is the difficulty of cleaning a car seat and where the spill occurred. But I wanted to let you know that you don't have to ditch the seat for the smell.
And I hope that you feel better soon.

The cover on the Graco Forever is machine washable and the rest of the seat besides the straps can be rinsed with cool water and mild soap. If it got on the straps and spot cleaning doesn't help you can get replacements from Graco. So sorry you are having to deal with all of this!

Thanks, guys. I will probably try to replace the buckle because it seems to have the most smell soaked in. You can't replace the rest of the straps, so I'm hoping I'm getting the worst of it between washing the cover (which smells much better at this point) and replacing the buckle. mapleme, we had a gallon of milk get left in my mom's van once. I don't think the smell ever really left. It was pretty awful. The reason it had never been used was because these seats were intended for H's car, but he's never taken them anywhere by himself.

critter015, I thought you couldn't replace the straps. If you can, I'll feel so much better about cleaning this thing.

My nephew puked in our Graco 4ever and we washed the seat padding and hosed off the rest of it and the smell went away pretty well.

Lol. My kids are pukers so the car seats have been washed many times. I clean straps with water and washcloths, and they're stained but the sun always gets the smell out.
It makes me laugh when people don't have pukers so they don't know how to clean a carseat (not you picc, just anyone), just because it is such a part of my life. Monthly, if not weekly.

Hugs picc. I hear a lot of my feelings in your post. Spouses not paying attention. Having to tell them what to do but them becoming defensive. I'm assuming also sleep deprivation. And you are sick.
Hopefully you can lock yourself in a room somewhere for a while. And get new straps or clean the seat.

Z refuses to be laid back in her crib MOTN, so I've been sleeping in the recliner with her. H can't calm her MOTN, she just screams until I finally drag myself out of bed. And I'm still exhausted, but I had to go back to work (my sores have hardened/crusted over, so I don't THINK I'm contagious anymore) because I ran out of sick leave on Thursday and I used vacation time to sleep on Friday.

Yea, BM can't calm P in the MOTN right now either. She gets so mad (P). BUT - I want to be like, what did you try? did you give her some water? (where's the cup? I don't know - I don't need it - think ahead!) did you pace around and sing? No? You just sat there holding her in the chair while she looked at the door and screamed until I got up? GREAT WORK!

This was my husband with our first. He would hold her for a few minutes, usually sitting and on his phone or watching tv and give up saying "she wants milk" it would make me so upset because he wouldn't even try to soothe her at all. I had to stand when holding her because sitting made her angry, but he refused to believe she might be happy without boobs. He became much better when she got older, then very much better when I got pregnant with our second and couldn't do it all.

My DH was the same, but C was a really easy baby and was happy to just sit there with him 99% of the time. This ruined him for when the next two came and cried constantly unless you were standing and bouncing and shushing. He still insists that it was something I did differently rather than the fact that they were just very different babies. In his defense he was in school and working full time when O was really small, so he missed out on a lot. He helped a ton when I was night weaning E.

Graco is sending a replacement buckle and the rest of the seat isn't that bad. But that buckle reeks.
