I don't know, sometimes the simplest explanation is the correct one and unfortunately the simplest explanation oftentimes is that people are racist and sexist. And even if there are other factors at play, we should still address the racism and sexism.

Ramos is a stickler for the rules. Other male players have stated that they felt targeted by him. All of his violations were correct even if nit picky. Had she accepted the first violation with some grace, the whole drama that ensued would have been avoided. She kept gooooiiiingggg.....

A black woman says she was the target of racism and sexism and a bunch of white people are scrutinizing the situation saying she wasn't.

Let’s be clear.
She is not the first one to go off on this ref.
She is the first one that was penalized a game in a grand slam final.

So then, what is the appropriate response when one is a victim of racism and sexism on a live international stage? Why are you so positive that is what happened? Are there articles about the official in question showing that he has that bias? Are you assuming all males are sexist? The stuff with the media- yes, absolutely happening. I believe it was sexism. I think that's evident. There is evidence that white men have not been held accountable by Carlos for similar or worse behavior. The rules are being applied differently.

If you feel someone is being a sexist racist against you, when do you (general you) think is a good time to call it out? Curious. Legit questions. Because no one can answer that question for me yet. When is it a good time? Any time is a good time.

She was getting her ass beat and was pissed off. Her coach broke a rule. She went off on an official. The way she went off wouldve got her ejected in many other sports. She was penalized. To automatically assume she was a victim of racism or sexism without holding her accountable for her actions is a bit much.

When is it a good time? Any time is a good time. My question to her would be, how does she feel that her calling it out at that moment affected her playing? Does she think it was a positive or negative for her own mental state, in that moment, going forward in the game? Regardless, she did what she felt she had to and I’m not questioning that. I’m just curious about whether she thinks that was the right thing for HER, in terms of her own game.

Let's not act like it's out of left field to say ANY black woman (let alone this one) is a victim of racism/sexism. I know less about tennis than Cher and yet, I'm able to call this what it is.

You must not watch soccer and many others have said that tennis players ‘go off’ all the time and don’t get ejected. Different sports, different rules.. I wouldn’t say that calling someone a thief is ‘going off’. While I don’t think there was really anything in that first call, giving someone a penalty for ‘verbal abuse’ for what she said was wayyyyyyyyy out of bounds. ETA: thief not liar

There are years upon years of incidents that lead up to her reaction. If you can't see that then no one can help you.

To automatically assume she was a victim of racism or sexism without holding her accountable for her actions is a bit much. The suggestion that her behaviour is something that can be removed from the context of her experiences as both a woman and that of a black athlete is disingenuous and reductive. Pretending otherwise is putting on the privilege blinders to all of the various microaggressions women like her deal with on a daily basis. Anybody who has looked at the headlines involving this woman for her entire career can see an escalation of frustration and anger that led to an explosion like this. It’s not a matter of whether her behavior was 100% professional or that she didn’t make mistakes but how the toxicity of her environment can lead to misunderstandings and lashing out in a heated moment. It shouldn’t be solely on her to keep quiet and make the objective selection of when she’s being subjected to prejudice and when she is not.

To automatically assume she was a victim of racism or sexism without holding her accountable for her actions is a bit much. Here's the thing you're missing and I feel other posters are missing. You can feel a way about her breaking a rule, a racket, whatever. Okay fine, I can give you that. But this is a little bit bigger than that and it's a conversation that is worth having, and not had enough. Take a step back, look at this in a bigger context. I said it before when I brought up McEnroe, I know he was in a different time as far as the sport of tennis goes, but he was CELEBRATED for his freak outs. Was he fined? Yeah. That's not the point. People all over loved him, if not more, because of them. And if they didn't they were still tuning in because of the entertainment value. Several white male tennis players have come out since this happened, and have admitted their actions were in line with Serena's, if not worse, and they got "soft warnings." If you don't see that rampant sexism is still present in sports, played a factor here, and is a lot worse for black women, I think you need to open your eyes a little more. Also your post is a bit much. Woof.

I also think it’s a bit absurd to say ‘control your emotions’. Yes, people to need to be adults. But sports in general are built and run on emotion. Without it, it would be pretty damn boring to watch. 🤷♀️ As a baseball watcher and fan I see this a lot when people comment on the way some of of the black and brown baseball players are in the games. They hide their racism with “respect the game” comments. Puig (a Dodger) gets this a lot. A lot of white baseball players and fans don’t like him because of his “antics”.

Yes. It feels similar in baseball right now. God forbid you have swagger in your game because white players and fans get all defensive and shit.
