How does it work? We’re just looking for a long weekend trip. Is there a hotel that is great for kids? We’re not looking to gamble or drink.
Any other suggestions? Flying from Toronto

DH goes to Vegas, way too much, lol. The last time he went he really paid attention to kids in Vegas. We have a 6 yr old DD. He said the pools are packed with families during the day. Some hotel or place had a kids babysitting arcade thing. You check your children in, the stamp them and you and when you go pick them up the check the stamp. He also claims that they stamp all the adults and when you pick up the kids all adults that were stamped need to also be there. He said it seemed very safe and secure and he is usually supriselingly less breeze about that kind of stuff then I am.
I’m really no help because this is all from DH who is usually drunk most of the trip.
He stay at SLS, which the pool was packed with families.

Forgive my ignorance but why go to Vegas if not to drink and gamble? It’s also a decent distance from Toronto for a long weekend.

Honestly Vegas is the last place I would want to take kids, especially if just for the pools. I went as a kid and Circus Circus was okay, but IDK, I would only want to go for adult weekends if I could help it.
If you want nice weather/pools, come to So Cal!

I’ve seen a lot of kids in Vegas but I’ve never really understood what there is to do with kids. We always go without kids, so maybe there is a whole culture I don’t know about.

I’m a no on kids.
I mean there’s the M&ms store and whatnot, but there are also women dancing on tables and people walking around advertising prostitution. I just feel like there are a lot of other places to go and things to do for a similar price. Hotels are cheap, sure, but everything else is $$$. Also consider that you’ll have to walk through a smoky casino to get to your room most places.

My mom used to take me to Vegas every year during spring break from the time I was 8. There are kids games at Excalibur and New York New York. The mirage has the Secret Garden (white tigers, dolphins), there’s a small amusement park at Circus Circus as well as Midway games.
We will be taking DS to Vegas this upcoming spring break.

I’d much rather go to a more kid centered location, especially if I wasn’t gambling or drinking. The shows are awesome, but I can’t get passed the indoor smoking and general crazy behavior you get there. It’s a party town first, no matter how many people bring kids. It’s also a ton of walking, and super crowded.

I'm mean every hotel has a pool. There are games for kids. There just isn't stuff exclusive to Vegas for kids in my opinion. It's just you can find other places.

Also the length of the flight and the time change wouldn't make sense for a long weekend with kids for me.

H has family in Henderson, so we we've brought J there once. He was just about 10m old so still pretty portable. We walked the strip one day, went to the gardens at the mirage, walked through the shops at Caesar's and the shops by planet Hollywood, etc.
That being said, would I have brought J if we didn't have family there? No.

I would also look for other options. Too much of a party town plus not much else for the kids to do.

Depends on the age of the kids. Mine like it there. We gamble though and the kids weren't interested in the pool. It's not a place I'd go if I didn't gamble & wanted to hang with younger kids at the pool.
My kids like the dining options, shows, concerts, game rooms and experiences. They have done helicopter tours (Grand Canyon once), Hoover Dam tour, Red Rock Canyon, rides on top of the Stratosphere, zipline off the Rio, Madame Tussauds, shark reef, indoor skydiving, interactive mob museum, Titanic exhibit, and tons of shows.

My son loved it at age 5 and 6 (last year and this year). He is a "city vacationer" like me - loves hustle, bustle, people watching, crowds, obnoxious lights and loudness etc - he loved Seattle, San Francisco, San Diego.... There is a lot to do and see for them - Excalibur arcade, circus circus games, the pools at MGM and the pool/beach area at Mandalay is super fun, both have lazy rivers. A lot of great food options, shopping. M and M store, fountains at Bellagio. I know there are also shows and museums for kids but we usually stay 2-3 nights and can pack a ton of action in those few days.
I will say that I hate smokey casinos but I tolerate them. If I have young kids I'd be tempted to go to a non-smoking hotel like MGM Signature or one of the others.
There are also more kid/family friendly hotels that are a bit off strip that have things like bowling alleys but we like the strip.

truckerhat, your son sounds like my DD at that age. She was mesmerized by Vegas and has been there so many times. She goes nonstop while she is there, has seen all the shows and enjoyed so many dining experiences. She's almost old enough to go and gamble now. I can't wait!

Mine is only 6 but yes he LOVES vegas ha!! He is great at restaurants so I have zero reservation taking him. But he fully embraces just sunning and swimming, shopping and eating while on vacation. My total mini lol!!

My kids love Vegas and all of the action. They are into the lights and shops. It can be really fun.
Have you thought about someplace like Great Wolf Lodge? My kids adore it and there are multiple locations so you can look into which is the easiest to travel to.

How old are your kids? We did the discovery kid Museum and it was awesome for kids. It was huge and we could kill a lot of time there. We stayed with family so I don’t have any info on the pool situations. We also have family in the area so we brought our kids. We are going again at the end of Nov and we are thinking about ditching the kids and just doing a quick weekend.

We did a one night stay in Vegas last year after a National Parks trip. We were flying out of Vegas and wanted to stay there on our last night to make the morning flight easier.
Our son was 5 and we had a fun time at the Red Rocks resort. He was welcome at the pool, the food options were fine and we squeezed in a hike. I hate Vegas, so the fact that it wasn't near the strip was fine. My son was dazzled by the fact that he could watch TV from the bathtub.

People always talk about the fountains at the Bellagio but I was underwhelmed with it. Shit like that and gardens don't excite me at all and my kids either.

What about Bermuda? Isn't that only like 3 hours from Toronto? I bet there is a place with pools and shows that fits better for a long weekend trip.

I personally wouldn’t take my kids but there’s quite a bit for kids to do. Don’t forget the M&M shop.

We’re looking spending three or four nights which I would not do a GWL. The kids are 7 & 9 so I think their ages are great for a lot of these activities suggested.

I was just underwhelmed with Vegas as a whole. There wasn't much there that you can't find elsewhere for me except the shows.
You can do the Eiffel tower experience. It has better reviews than the stratosphere.
I would pick the Mirage volcano over the fountains at the Bellagio.
There is a CSI experience I wanted to do but didn't if your kids are into that.
I would take my kids on the gondola ride at the Venetian.
There are a lot of Egyptian type things to look at, at the Luxor which is free and make for great pics. They also have the Titanic Exhibit which interested me but would not my kids.
I loved the wax museum but I could see kids not being that into it. Also there are always people on the sidewalk passing out $10 off coupons to the wax museum so don't pay full price.
There are tours to Canyon and Dam that are about 4 hours round trip. I can give you that info if interested.

I want to be clear when I say I don't necessarily think kids in Vegas is BAD at all. It could be fun, and we may end up doing that when the kids are older because it is a quick trip from here. It just isn't where I would go specifically for the purposes you described, and for a trip that required so much travel time.

You can find things to do if you are set on going there but for what was listed I would not pick there.

From YYZ I'd rather jump on a quick flight to Orlando and do the water parks there
