Hey ladies! I haven't been around a whole lot lately. I've been super busy. I do have a question though and I was hoping maybe there was someone going through or has gone through a similar situation.
Ok so, baby girl is measuring big. Like really big. On the outside she's measuring 4 weeks ahead, and on the ultrasound she's measuring 3 weeks. All my boys have been in the mid to upper 8 pound range, so big but not huge. My Dr wants me to retake my glucose test even though my sugar was 90 last time so I passed with flying colors. She just wants to be sure it didn't develop or something. There is no explanation why she's measuring so big. It's all new for me too, my boys were all only a few days ahead, never more than a week.
Anyways, has anyone else gone through this before? I know it's not a big deal, she's healthy and that's great but I'm feeling very emotional over the whole thing. Why? I have no idea. There is talk of induction and I really don't want to be induced again, but obviously I'll suck it up.
I honestly feel stupid even typing this out but I just thought if maybe someone else went through this and shared their experience then maybe my hormones will release me of this funk I've been in. And if you read this whole thing, then please go eat a cookie, you deserve it.

I have not experienced this but just wanted to send creepy internet hugs your way. Hopefully someone has a positive anecdote to share!

I am on baby #3 and measuring 4 weeks ahead too. My OB isn’t concerned at all. I also passed my glucose test with flying colors and never had GD with any other pregnancy. DS1 was 8lbs 6oz and never measured ahead the whole time. DS2 was 7lbs even and never measured big. I’ll be induced if I make it to 39 weeks but I am really hoping I go into labor before then.
Ultrasounds can be really really inaccurate so I wouldn’t worry too much. I am a bit concerned but not terribly so. I figure he may be a bit over 8lbs but that’s a healthy weight for a newborn. I think measuring ahead is just a combo of him being a bit big and also being on my 3rd pregnancy and my ute is nice and stretchy now.
I am more bummed that the cute newborn sized clothes I bought won’t fit him for long!

This is my 4th and I've never had GD either. It's so odd that this baby is just randomly large. Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with me! I do feel quite a bit better.

My belly is measuring a few weeks ahead, but the baby is measuring average.
With DD, they said she was measuring big, but she was 8lb 3 oz at birth (41 weeks gestation).
I'd say monitor it, but try not to freak out. These are purely estimates so the doctors can make the best decisions possible...

Ultrasound measurement is notoriously inaccurate, they can be off by up to two pounds, especially the later they go. So I would monitor and take it all with a grain of salt, lots of people are told they will have huge (or small) babies and they end up average-sized. My friend was induced for IUGR and her baby ended up being over 6 lbs. If your other babies were average sized, it's more than likely she will be as well unless you end up with unchecked diabetes. And even then, especially if you've already had multiple vaginal births, birthing a 10 lb baby is not impossible.

+1 to dramaphila. I went through a similar situation as her friend. While the OB did say my placenta looked “not right” after delivery, I’m inclined to think it was all a little bit of an over-cautious reaction to u/s measurements.

Thank you guys so much. This is my first pregnancy with an OB, my other 3 I had a midwife. She was much more relaxed about things and was much more personal. So basically this time I'm like "should I be worrying or is this just precautionary?" It doesn't help that I rotate between 5 different DRs and they all have different ways of talking about it. Some seem concerned and others are more relaxed about it.
I appreciate everyone's input! It helps a lot!!

eleephant I recently remembered that H’s cousin was told her last child was huge and she’d probably need a c-section. He came totally average the vaginal way. All of the “big” talk was a lot to do about nothing.
