I feel kind of dumb, but what comes after a convertible car seat? I am starting to think of what seat we'll need to get for DD once DS needs to move to her convertible.
She's 3 and 3 months, about 30lbs and 37".

A combination seat- one that harnesses FF and then turns into a booster.

We just recently got the Graco Nautilus for DS to use in MH’s car as he outgrew the Cosco Scenera. It’s a forward facing to high back booster to backless booster seat. I’m not sure when you’re wanting to forward face or move to booster, etc, but something like that should mostly cover your bases. The Graco 4ever is convertible to backless booster, I believe.

I was looking in the Target app, and they just have infant, convertible and booster seats categories, they would be in the booster section?

Harnessed booster, high back booster, backless booster, done.
If you’re looking for recs, I’m really happy with the boys’ graco nautilus 65s. It will do all of the above. It’s no re-thread harness so it’s easy to raise the height on the fly. At 5 R can get himself in and out and get C out. C is too lazy to even try but that’s a different story. I could easily fit 3 across the back seat of my truck.

A combination seat- one that harnesses FF and then turns into a booster. This. They still have the 5 point harness option but can be switched to a high back booster with a seatbelt. Your convertable may do this though. Like we had DS1 in his convertable that he's had for 6 years FF as a HBB with seatbelt until I swapped it back to RF fir DS2. But we already had an extra HBB too.

But honestly, unless you are just needing a new seat for some reason, your current convertible should be fine for forward facing until the time comes for a high back booster. Is there a reason you are looking to change seats?
ETA- just read your OP again. I stick by my original recommendation of the graco nautilus.

The Nautilus is less clunky and easier for him to get in and out of.

I was just thinking rather than buy new seats for DS, I could just use hers and get her new ones since we'll have to get her new ones eventually anyway. DS is only 3 months, so it will be a little while before we move him, but I wanted to start the research.

C was in the extend 2 fit but about time he flipped forward facing was when we went to a one car family so he got R’s nautilus out of H’s car. It’s just so much more compact. I thought about trying to sell the extend 2 fit. It’s only a year old I think. ETA- not even a year old. We got it to replace the other one after our accident right before Christmas last year!

We’re really happy with the harmony defender for our on the small side, DD. She’s four so were looking for something that would grow with her for a long time and the harmony should be able to get her through till she’s done with car seats. It’s a convertible - goes from a 5 point harness, to a high back booster, then to a booster.

We were in the same boat and bought the combination seat when we need our convertible for the little one. We had the Britax Marathon and got the Britax Frontier for forward facing through backless booster. I like it a lot!

Anyone have a comparison on the Britax Frontier vs the Graco Nautilus? Need to think about a FF seat for my kid when we eventually give her baby brother the Graco 4 ever she is currently using (we just replaced it due to an accident, makes sense for baby to get it when he grows out of the infant seat and she'll be at least 3.5 by then). Another moms group recommended the Frontier- curious what the differences are, especially for ease of adjustment and installation. The price is certainly better for the Graco.

We got two Britax Pinnacles with Click Tight for DS at that stage. The Britax Pioneer and Frontier are very similar.
They'll be his set forever until he's ready to be done with seats. It's a forward facing booster with a five point harness. Eventually, you can take the harness off and use the shoulder seat belt with it.

The Frontier with ClickTight will be really easy to install. I think that ClickTight functionality is one of the features that makes it more expensive than other brands. I think also that the Britax has a steel frame, which perhaps the Nautilus doesn't have?

We have a Britax (Frontier I think) for 4yo DD in my car and the Graco in MH's. The Frontier is so, so easy to install. I love that. Also way easier to manipulate the straps, and seems very comfortable for her. Cons: DS is RFing in a Britax Pavilion, and it is hell on earth to get any third seat between those two big-ass Britax seats in the backseat of my Subaru Forester when I need to haul friends' kids around. Broken-nail, scraped-knuckle hell! I don't want to drive a minivan. Even scoutboo couldn't make me. But fucking car seats, man. /tangent ETA Dramaphile

We have two of the Graco Nautilus seats for DS, and I have no complaints. I will buy two more for DD.

We have the Britax Frontier because it is better for bigger kids. DS was already hitting the height and weight limits of forward facing w/ a harness in the Nautilus at 5 yo when we switched from his Diono, so it didn’t work for us. He isn’t ready for a seatbelt booster yet and there are only a few seats that actually fit him. I’ve heard only good things about the Nautilus otherwise.

We have a Graco Tranzitions, which is cheaper than the Nautilus. It’s also a 3-in-1 that goes from harnessed to highback booster to booster. I don’t have any complaints about it..

Here is an independent mom’s review. I skimmed but overall looks like she hits the main parts. Still looking for one from csftl because I’m 99% sure they did one. www.experiencedmommy.com/britax-frontier-vs-graco-nautilus-convertible-car-seat-showdown/ETA- this should cover it. If the link works. csftl.org/britax-two-way-elite-review-eu/Eta2- it didn’t. Here you can pick those 2 seats to compare. csftl.org/compare-combination-seats/

I got the Graco Nautilus 3-in1 for DS on Prime Day. He loves it and it's so much easier for him to climb in and out of in the car. And the buckles don't get stuck like they did on his convertible.
They're supposed to be good for 10 years since they convert from harness booster to high back booster to regular booster.
If you can wait for Black Friday for good sales.
