DH and I did a fun date last night - we learned how to make macarons (Italian meringue style - since I know duskymonkey will be interested). We made like 100 of ‘em (chocolate and salted caramel ones - we colored some pink and some blue). As you can see below, DH was a little overzealous with trying to fit as many as possible on one cookie sheet 😂🤣 (he made pink and I made blue). DH’s were kind of ugly, but they tasted great though! Like - store quality. I’m so excited that I know how to do this now. I think come Thanksgiving we’re going to make a bunch and give them out as little party favors. DS1 also luuuuved them. I think he ate like 5 today 😬

Taitai 😍Looks delish. What a fun idea for a date night! Kids were up early... I’m on my second cup of coffee, cleaned the downstairs and I’m about to do some errands. My union rep finally called me back about some questions I had about going back to work and he basically rushed me off the phone. Five more weeks to go until I’m back.

We had our first family of 4 photoshoot last night. It was, no lie, 100 degrees out and teetering on DS's bedtime. Everyone did surprisingly well! DS didnt crack a smile, but he didnt cry too much either haha DD was able to be bribed with a bag of sour patch kids (FFFC?) so that worked out. The location was really beautiful, I cant wait to see a preview

FINALLY Friday. DD2 and I are still super congested. Zyertec and Allegra have done done not much to clear the congestion but all the other allergy symptoms are gone so that’s a plus.
H is working concessions stands at the football game tonight to as a fundraiser for the b-ball team so I’ve got the girls. We’re doing sausage, cheese, and breadsticks for dinner. Pears for dessert. The girls would eat their weight in pears if I let them

We had DD’s friend birthday party today and it was a blast! 7 little friends plus 3 younger siblings (babies) and their mom’s (plus one dad). Got everything cleaned up and organized for party version 2 on Sunday (smaller, just my family). Her birthday is tomorrow but we are going to a wedding so we will go out for breakfast and let her open presents from us but that’s about it

Anyone else’s LO throwing mini tantrums?! DD2 throws these “fits” where she suddenly lays on the floor to cry over whatever it is that is upsetting her.. Mind you her fits last all of 2.0 seconds because #zeroattentionspan but I’m fearing things to come. 😳 We treat her tantrums as we did DD1’s and just ignore them but I don’t remember DD1 throwing fits this early either.

Taitai that sounds so good and I’m jealous you’re able to make them! I’ve tried twice and it’s too humid here for them to harden, so I always end up with sticky slightly gooey pieces.

Add me to the allergies camp. I just want to be able to breathe. Tonight should be interesting.
DS1 rode with me to pick up groceries and fell asleep in the car. Kindergarten wears him out so much!!

Did you use the French macaron style or the Italian meringue version? We can’t do the French recipe here, because it’s too humid. The Italian method works great though! After piping the cookies on to the wax paper - we were also told to let them sit under the air con for like 20 min to dry out (so they are tacky to the touch), before baking them in the oven. You also should turn them at least once while baking, for a more even bake.

Oh my! Already... looking back they seemed so easy as little itty babies however we were sleep deprived...some of us still are but nothing like the first few months. Hmmm I suppose lil fella has started doing mini tantrums if he doesn't get to do what he wants like when it's meal time and he's playing and I go pick him up to put him in the chair he'll start crying and writing in the chair for a minute or when I go pick him up to go change his diaper or really just stop him from playing he'll just throw back his body and cry for a minute. Taitai, so awesome! I am impressed you were able to make them in the humidity. Very challenging under those conditions. I love love macarons and I have the most awesome lemon or lime filling if you're wanting to make those flavours. They're Pierre Herme's recipe and it also makes his incredible super puckerlicious lemon tart filling. I recall standing in line at Laduree and ogling at all the macarons. I hear they opened one in NYC. GAWD! I miss all the food options in larger cities.

So far, I only have recipes for chocolate ganache, salted caramel, and raspberry filling. ETA - they have a Laduree here - as well as Pierre Herme. Macarons are super popular in this city! I personally like the ones at Paul too 🤷♀️

I'll dig up and PM the recipe unless someone else wants it then I'll just post a thread. This is giving me an idea...A neighbor gave me an almost full half G of heavy whip cream...I think I am going to make a batch of caramel sauce. SaveSave

O.M.G I spotted a tooth nub! We finally have a tooth coming out. Not sure if it's related but the last couple of day lil fella refused his morning naps so his schedule was so off. Like fell asleep around lunch time but I didn't let him sleep long - like 30 - 40 mins. At least yesterday afternoon he went down pretty quickly but today it took me an hour to get him to nap in the afternoon. I would've given up but since he didn't really nap in the am I know he'd be a mess come evening and dinner would be ultra difficult. I cannot remember when they start to go to 1 nap a day? Anyone remembers? I think it's waayy to early and I know there's no way he'd make it to the afternoon and will likely fall asleep eating lunch.

duskymonkey a tooth! I think DD1 dropped her morning nap at 14 or 15 months? I have a feeling we will just have to drop it this time whenever LO moves to the next room at daycare because they only do one nap (on a cot)

Taitai I have no idea which method. It was so long ago I can’t remember what all the steps were. Lol I wish they were more popular in my immediate area so I didn’t have to drive far to get some.

Oh yes - we have these types of fits over here. LO has also started this little fake crying thing, where he sort of squawks to get our attention. Such a drama lama.
