We are struggling to get a good latch. I plan to be on the phone tomorrow morning to make an appointment with a lactation consultant because I’m starting to get discouraged and frustrated.
Until then I am watching YouTube breastfeeding videos between feeds and other obligations. He’s definitely gaining weight, I have minimal pain/discomfort... but more often then not I have the lipstick tube shape red flag they warn about.

mirabelle - Gaining weight and minimal pain is good, but definitely worth looking into his latch if you think something's up. Good luck!

DD has given us a 4 hour and a 3 hour stretch the last two nights! We tried swaddling her with her arms in again after the first night home where she fought it all night and that might have helped. It's amazing what an extra little bit of sleep does for you.

Updating my feeding journey here:
We went to a lactation consultant yesterday and she said his latch looked great and we did a weighted feed and he’s gaining during his feeds. So I’m conclusion I’m overthinking things and need to calm down and enjoy my breastfeeding journey.
I’m glad to have had the one on one support and I’m really curious to see what the bill for that appointment will be 😬but it was worth the peace of mind.

mirabelle I've been meaning to ask you if you had an appt. Glad it was all good news! My insurance is very basic and it covers two visits with an LC. I think maybe the ACA requires that as part of prenatal/postnatal coverage, so you might be good!

With dd1 we did two consultations at the hospital and I think insurance covered most if not all of the appointment fees.

I'm glad your visit went well mirabelle! I'm lucky that our pediatrician's office has an LC on staff. She was a huge help with DS1. DS2 has started off life nursing like a champ. His first couple latches weren't great so one nip is a bit bruised up but we're doing better now. And based on how the boobs are feeling my milk is definitely coming in already. I'm hopeful we won't have weight gain issues at the beginning this time around.
