OMG! My left hip feels like it is in a vice! Anyone else dealing with this and any suggestions other than a chiropractor? Until this week I was walking a mile or two a day and was pretty active but the pain is getting too much. I am almost 34 weeks so I know the added weight is part of my problem.
I am taking as much tylonol as I feel comfortable with but it isn't doing much. MH is leaving town for 3 weeks for work next Saturday and I will have our 1 yearold. Even though I will have some help I am worried I might have trouble moving around. My doctor had zero helpful advice.

When I sit in a car for too long (like yesterday's 5 hour drive) this happens and it freaking hurts. I've found that doing some stretches (you can look up stretches for sciatica pain) has helped along with icing my hip. It doesn't help instantly but it does work to ease the pain.

Oh, hai. This is my life.
I'm in PT 2x/wk, on hydrocodone and a muscle relaxer, and use a cane (okay, I'm SUPPOSED to use my cane) to deal with my right hip pain (suspected labral tear and possible SI joint dysfunction -- perhaps brought on by pregnancy). I'd been in PT prior to getting KU for a sciatica flare, and then the hip issues developed.
First of all, I'm so sorry. It fucking sucks. Never ever again in my whole life will I ever underestimate the importance of the hips to daily movement.
Your pain can either be originating from your hip, or referring to your hip from somewhere else down there. When is your pain worse (sitting, standing, getting in/out of cars, rolling over in bed, etc)? Knowing what exacerbate it can help pin point where it is originating from, which can give you a better idea of how to get relief.
What I have found helpful ..
1. You can't take NSAIDS, which sucks, but ice/heat may help.
2. I have a pregnancy support belt (it's like an SI belt, but has a pregnancy support band built in) that helps stabilize my hips and lower back, taking some of the pressure off of my bones/joints. Does it make it go away? LOLNO. Does it help? Yeah. You can easily get one on Amazon.
3. This is going to be totally personal and dependent on your and your OB's comfort level, but don't be afraid to ask for something stronger if you need it. Hydrocodone and the like are safe in pregnancy when taken in prescribed doses and not abused. You being in excruciating pain is actually worse for you and for the baby than taking a narcotic pain reliever since it can raise your BP and otherwise cause stress to your system. I did a ton of research once it got to this point for me, and both my OB and I believe that it is in mine and the baby's best interest to be on medication for the pain. Again, totally a personal choice, but know that it is *a* choice if you find yourself in that much pain.
4. I hope you have a Snoogle.
Hope that helps a little bit.
ETA: you're about to solo parent with a toddler!? Girlfriend. I assure you I would not have survived the last 3 months (and counting) of my H being deployed without the help of a stronger pain reliever than plain ol Tylenol. Like, seriously. I'd definitely call your OB and ask for something stronger to have on hand to take as needed. As you know, you cannot rationalize with the little cave people to take it easier on you. God speed, friend.

ketchup I had no idea I could ask for real drugs! The pain is fine if I sit, drive, lay down. Walking and lifting suck. I mean this is worse than labor! I have four different pillows at night that help me stabilize my hip but if I roll over I wake up in pain. I have been using a heating pad but have not tried ice as well. Today I noticed the muscle in my lower back above my hip was inflamed which is new. I am going to look into the belt and call my doctor tomorrow.

Please do call your doctor! I had severe hip pain (Labral tear that's now been surgically corrected) during pregnancy and it was awful. I ended up getting a dexamethasone injection in my arm and it did help to take the edge off of the pain and inflammation in the third trimester. I was also prescribed oxycodone for the days that it was unbearable. So much love and luck to you!

I just got a pregnancy belt and have been wearing it when I stand up and am working and man it's made such a big difference in the level of pain! I highly recommend. I don't like it when I sit though so I take it off but yesterday I was in the kitchen cooking for 4 hours and was just achy instead of the pain I've been having because I wore the belt.

I talked to my doctor and she wants me to try PT which I start Friday. I also got a pg belt and found it helps but if I have it on for more than a couple hours if gets uncomfortable. But so far my hip seems a little better with it. MH has taken over all toddler care for the last few days so I can rest which has helped too.
Thanks!

yellowcat - GL with PT. I've been going 2x/week since September (so before getting KU), and it definitely can help. If the belt provides you some relief, be sure to ask your PT about taping you. Basically, they use something called KT tape to help with support. I usually have my SI area and hip taped, but we've done my stomach as well the last few times, and holy hell does that help. Worth a shot!

ketchup thanks! I felt better after PT this morning but within a few hours the SI joint was back to sucking. I honestly can't tell if the belt is helping but I have some exercises to do and hope that makes a difference. I am out of town for the next ten days so I am not sure when I will get back to PT.
