I know we’ve got some big babies in this crew...has anyone else had the pediatrician express concerns about head size? DS has a big head (like 100th percentile) and we are being referred for an ultrasound. I think primarily to check for too much fluid.
Everything else went fine at his 9 month appointment, and he’s a big guy overall. Developmentally he’s on track. Logically I know the doc is just doing this out of an abundance of caution. But it’s still disconcerting.

Our pedi would only be concerned if the proportion to the rest of the body was off, I think. Is your DS close to 100th for height/weight? I think even up to 20-30% difference is considered "normal."

Ds2 was always in the top percentile for head size. Although we were never referred, our pediatrician was never concerned. He still can't really wear hats. I have a very large noggin and have the same problem, no head gear for me either
My friend from hs's son had large head and their doctor did refer him for the same concerns as yours, and there was nothing found.
Sorry I can't be more help. Did you get an appointment set up yet?

Yeah he’s like 98% for height and 90% for weight. I was kind of thrown when she followed up with this. Her main concern was how much his head grew between 6 mos and 9 mos. She said she thinks everything is probably fine, this is just to make certain. I’m also wondering if Zika is just making docs more on alert for hydrocephalus? Even though he has literally zero symptoms of that other than big head. Who knows...

Though logistically, how the F do I get the worlds most fidgety 9 month old to stay still for an ultrasound??

But, given his large size, height and weight, I wouldn't worry too much
