Easily removable and cleanable basin is the only thing to look for.
I got the cheapest frog shaped one and it was fine.
She very quickly moved on to a ring for the regular toilet because "I a big potty girl", which totally sounded like "party" so we had a lot of potty parties.

+1 to making sure it's easy to clean and remove. DS only used one a few times (he's a big 2.5 year old and just sits on the toilet), but I made sure to clean it thoroughly each time, so being able to do so is key.

We have this Summer Infant seat. It's cheap and fairly easy to clean. DS has since decided he'd rather use a potty ring on the big toilet, so I moved the potty to the kitchen because our only bathroom is on the second floor and I'm assuming he won't make it upstairs every time once we get more serious about PTing.

She's 19 months, but is showing signs of being ready (telling me when she's going poopoo, after she has peed, wants to put poopoo in the toilet to "say bye bye" (flush) lol.)

We have the toilet seat with the magnetic insert from Lowes (like what someone mentioned in the other thread at Home Depot). I didn't want to have to clean a little potty, deal with the transition to a big potty, or have DS trying to use a potty ring solo at night. DD (15m) will occasionally asks to go on the potty, so it isn't so big that she would fall in (she's pretty petite).
We also have a little step stool that he carries back and forth from potty to the sink for hand washing.

I just got a really nice one on Amazon. We're introducing it but it hasn't been christened yet. I just let E sit on it when I go. I'm not in a rush (and I'm not saying you are!). We're just going to let her get comfortable with the idea, and see if she'll consider pooping on there if I catch her in time. She tells me after she poops, but no notification of peeing yet.

I got a Minnie Mouse one that makes fun noises and such because I thought it would entice DD1 to use it more. Yeah she peed on it one time and then requested the regular toilet so we just got a ring :/ so a basic one that is easy to clean is probably the best route to go.

I wasn't going to get a little potty since our toilets have the built in ring pp mentioned above, but SIL still had a little potty from her boys. It made PT so much easier because it could be wherever we are (outside, far from the bathroom, etc) and even better it could come with us in the car. It's at least a half hour drive from home to anywhere we go, so it helped me relax knowing if toddler called for the potty, I could pull over and make it happen. Despite being a boy, he's not willing to pee anywhere but in a potty yet. We have this one. At first I didn't like that it had a lid cause DS treated it like a toy (open, close, open, close, etc) but he got over that. Riss - we have this one: Primo 4-In-1 Soft Seat Toilet Trainer and Step Stool White with Pastel Blue Seat www.amazon.com/dp/B000BXKTMA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_DOOszbSHP5EBAAnd it's awesome. It's a stool for hand washing, a seat that has a removable easy to wash basin, an easy to disinfect seat that is also soft, the seat can be moved to the toilet (and they can use the stool to get up). It's an A+ seat all around. And it's lightweight. And a good base so when I need to move it around the house when PTing starts (so it can be where you are to get there fast)
