dashook we have similar birth stories! Two inductions. The first one I made it to 9 cm before the epidural 🤦🏽‍♀️. I didn’t know I was that far when i got it, so out of it and the pitocin was a bitch. with DS2 they only had to break my water and honestly the contractions were manageable but I became anxious about pushing. I’m just really hoping I go into labor naturally this time! if I need another epidural, it is what it is.

I feel like I could give it a try through the contractions without the epidural but I am afraid when it comes to the pushing part. I’m afraid of tearing and I have a friend who pushed for hours and ultimately the doctor got the baby out with forceps which wouldn’t have been feasible if she hadn’t had the epidural. I feel at a loss as to how to prepare myself.

I’m afraid of tearing and I have a friend who pushed for hours and ultimately the doctor got the baby out with forceps which wouldn’t have been feasible if she hadn’t had the epidural. I feel at a loss as to how to prepare myself. I would do as suggested above and read birth stories. I think there are a lot fewer problems during pushing than it seems; people tend to hyper focus on the negative they hear vs. all the positive experiences. It's human. To me, pushing wasn't the worst part of labor. With DS1, I pushed for an hour and yeah, it burned like fire but it isn't a burn that lasts and it only feels that awful when they're crowning. I had such a minuscule tear, the MW didn't bother doing anything with it. The back labor was worse than the pushing. With DS2, my water broke and he was out with the next push. I honestly don't remember it hurting much more than the contractions and I give a lot of that to being up in a squatting like position. I had a slightly bigger tear with him because of the speed of the event but it was still small enough I avoided stitches.
