omg. The dc just posted a picture of "gently used school uniforms" that they are SELLING up front. People usually just give them to the school to give to those who can't afford to buy them for their kids. Like I've taken them and given them to past teachers to give to their current students. I think it is so dumb they are selling these donations. "the money will purchase teacher meals, celebrate staff anniversaries and birthdays here at our school"....so none of it is even for the freaking kids! I will continue to give Cadence's too small uniforms to the teachers or directly to the parents, not the front desk. This is gross of them. I'd have a few choice words. I would be angry if I dropped them off thinking it would be given to families that need help. However if the people who dropped off the used uniforms knew they were going to be sold for those purposes then I wouldn't be angry just sad.

Afternoon! I had to wake both kids up at 9 (!) because we had a trial gymnastics class for Josie. She liked it ( mostly because of the super sparkly outfit), so we’ll give the September through December session a try. Pdq:

klong11 Did you know the purpose of the donation when you donated them? Your post reads to me that you were surprised where the money was going. I could be reading it wrong though.

She is so cute@guster!! mamabear we’re they able to hit the vein quickly? If so, I wouldn’t be upset at the experience. When C had his done it took a couple of pokes but he was so into the process he didn’t care. I would be more upset if a specialist failed to hit the vein.

*snip* I don't know how people do this with an H that is deployed or away on business a lot. Low standards and hard liquor. Ugh. So speaking of, DH just called...there's a ship going out tomorrow and one of the guys who is supposed to go can't, so DH is going. *poof*

I'm sorry flamingo, I've been there and it's so tough having exactly zero notice. Of course you're going to kick ass at it, because that's what we do

Wow, flamingo. That sounds very challenging. I’m glad it’s only for a short period of time but it must be pretty stressful.

klong11 Did you know the purpose of the donation when you donated them? Your post reads to me that you were surprised where the money was going. I could be reading it wrong though. I have donated directly to teachers in the past, I did not donate this year yet because I haven't gone through Cadence's closet. When I give things to the teachers they tell me they know just who to give it to. I never give things to the front office, only directly to teachers. As far as I know this is the first I have heard of the front office ever selling used clothing items, they didn't send out a letter asking for donations or anything. I feel like if they needed money for those types of things(teacher's lunches and staff birthdays), they should just ask. I would be more than happy to donate to those things, it just seems odd to me that someone donated this clothing for the use of younger, possibly less well off families, only for the front office to turn around and try to make money off of it. Idk. I tend to just give Cadence's old stuff away, toys, books, clothes. If I don't need them any more then I don't need to necessarily make money off of it, I just want someone who needs it to have it. Probably a UO.

I just got a call back from the park we want to have lo's party at. The pavilion I wanted is all booked up through January. But one right by the restrooms was available on a Sunday instead of a Saturday so I booked it. We are locked in now. LO wants his grandparents there and my mom is saying she doesn't think they will go since they will be out for Christmas and New Years and want to spend thanksgiving with my sisters. I'm hoping she changes her mind since I booked early November versus his actual birthday. I was just about to text you! Do you still want to do a joint party? I asked Pete and Dude and they gave it a green light.

We scheduled Dude's surgery. First available date was November 14th. We took it since the ENT was adamant they HAVE to come out before Winter.

klong11 Thanks for clarifying, that's how I read your post as well. Not an UO, I am the same. I tend to give away most of the kids stuff and the things I do sell on kijiji (comparable to craigs list) the money goes right into the kids piggy banks.

I have not sold anything yet since I'm a hoarder and cannot decide if we are done having kids...but once I do, it's going to be spent on the next size up clothes. I only plan to sell our nicer stuff on B/S/T groups. There is a market for name brand used stuff.. I just bought a Patagonia down jacket for $30 and I bet someone with a tight budget will happily pay $20 for it in a few years. Cat and Jack and Carter's stuff will be going in the donate pile. Often we get requests through daycare to help families get situated or to donate used kid supplies. Also people offer bags of clothes within our daycare which has a scholarship program, so not everyone is higher income like our previous daycare. What do people do with very used sneakers?

Question: we’re starting with planning or USA trip (won’t be booking until January, because baseball). The thing that’s worrying us a little are the car seats...
Option 1: bring our own, but this would entail a lot of hassle on the airport, juggling two kids, luggage (camping gear) and seats.
Option 2: get the seats from the car rental company, but then have no idea what kind of seats we’d get. Last time we got a terrible one... so we bought a new one the next days and lugged the car seat from the rental company with us for four weeks.
Option 3: buy new seats. We like the idea of this, but how would we get from the airport to the drop-off site/nearest walmart.
Thoughts?
ETA we’d either fly in to Boston and get the car straight away or Washington and stay in the city for a few days.

@nam, i don’t know where you’re flying into, but I bet you could find an Uber or Lyft ride that has car seats to take you to Walmart and then to the rental car place. I also know that kids don’t need to be in car seats on public transportation (NYC cabs and/or on buses & trains), so that could help

nam2013 I always travel with my car seats. It can be a pain, but we’ve managed. I’ve even done it alone with both kids. When we are walking with everything (before checking bags and after picking them up at baggage claim) I’ll put one car seat on top of the stroller seat, in a sitting position then set another smaller bag on that. I usually pick the heaviest seat so all i have to do is push it. The kids can then walk and your H can use the seatcover strap to carry the other one on his shoulder while you push the stroller and or roll the suitcase. Totally doable. I’ve had to do this by myself when my dad was late picking us up at the airport.

flamingo I would be dying inside too, especially in light of the things you have planned. There's a lot of work that goes into setting all those plans up in the first place, let alone having to now revisit them. I'm sorry ☹️
