So, since baby is coming in Oct/Nov, the spare room where my sewing supplies and machine currently live is turning into the nursery and my sewing area is moving to one end of our large living room. Currently I'm using a folding table and a plastic bin to hold supplies and it's a big mess, and the new area will be even more accessible to my 2.5 year old, who is more than curious about my crafting stuff.
What are your craft/sewing storage systems currently?
I know I want to get a table or desk and need to figure out some kind of storage for my fabric which is mostly housed in a big cardboard box and a repurposed nightstand, and need to figure out what to use to store/hide my thread, needles, sewing machine parts, bobbins, scissors, etc, that are especially tempting for the toddler. The area is along a wall which also has windows, so ideally not anything too tall.

Please ignore the messy bits, it did start out presentable: But I used some plastic scrapbooking bins that snap shut for tools. Also plastic shoe box containers with hinged locking lids. They won't stop a curious toddler cold, but they'll hold em off long enough for you to holler, lol. I also use zipper topped document pouches to keep cut out pieces together for projects. Finished blocks too, until I have too many stitched together to fit. The block bins hold fabric that I'm not using yet, so doesn't matter too much if DS gets into them. I like the cube storage shelves because they come in so many configurations.

I don’t have a pic of mine but this is how I store my fabric. I have mine in the basement and I use one of the collapsible folding racks I had from llr but if you have a closet that would work too. All of my other supplies are kept in drawers under my sewing table. Just cheap plastic drawer units from Walmart. I’m spoiled and H took a sheet of 4x8 plywood and made me a huge sewing table complete with a cutout shelf to slide my machine in so it is flush with the sewing table for easier sewing.

I need to work on my storage. The dining room probably isn't good for term long.

Picked up an inexpensive craft storage drawer unit from Michael's last night, but struck out on thrift shopping/Target for desks. Going to keep an eye on FB marketplace and check out a few more stores. If I can find the right shelf, I saw a cute method of fabric storage where you wrap the fabric on mini bolts (comic book boards) so you can see everything you have. It definitely feels good to start sorting all my sewing/craft supplies which were jumbled in a big plastic bin and piled on top of my folding table. I didn't realize I had so many zippers!

How big of a space do you have? We built mine and I love it! 2 sheets of plywood, a couple 2x4s and a sheet of Formica counter top and some trim pieces and it’s perfect!

Building something is tempting, but I'm 28 weeks pregnant and my husband is less than handy, so I would need to do it myself. Right now, assembling IKEA furniture is probably my max stamina. I might look at some tabletop/base options. Really what I need is a decent sized sturdy table top with some shelves or drawers underneath. There are some tempting options online for sewing/craft table units, but I need to measure and see what can fit.

Sauder Craft DeskI have this desk in my craft room and my sewing machine fits on the shelf underneath. I have a sewing machine and a Cricut, so one machine stays on the shelf underneath and one sits on top. It has a decent amount of storage (but lets be real, you can't ever have enough craft storage) and folds up/down when not being used.

I'm sure it would be possible to break it, but if it is assembled properly you shouldn't have too much trouble with it. I keep it open 98% of the time because my craft room is in a bedroom that also doubles as a home office. I keep a small tv on the extra work space that opens up. I don't cut fabric on this, but that is more because of the narrow width than an issue of sturdiness. I asked for it for Christmas a few years ago and have zero regrets about the purchase. One day I would like to get a proper sewing cabinet, but those are really expensive.
