I’m nervous about Dany. However this election is only good until the end of the year as he’s up for election again in November. It’s so close so far.

Sigh. I really wish Danny would have won but it was really close and District 12 is up again on the November ballot. So he does have a second shot.

So I’m curious- those text message campaigns to voters, are there results they are actually effective? notblanche because I know you were involved in this and might know Reapibding because I've worked on these too. I don't know if effectiveness has been studied, but here is my anecdotal reference. Often with phone banking (which I've also done over the years) you miss huge swaths of voters because they never answer their phones. With caller ID I almost never answer an odd number, some people do, but I know lots who don't. So with texting at least your first message is pretty sure to be seen by the recipient. Different text campaigns have differing goals too. I've worked on some that were primarily to encourage people to go vote. There wasn't a ton of expected interaction on those, but you still had people respond in Al sorts of ways. Some campaigns are a bit more involved and are to help voters understand a certain candidate and encourage voting. Much more interactive for the eople who respond. I've had some really productive text convos with people. So I'd say it's effective in its way. And it's absolutely meant to go along with traditional door knocking and other activities. But I think ity helps reach a younger voting population, which is so important. All this with the disclosure that "the plural of anecdote is not data".

@blurnette99, interesting. I was asking because I actually got a text message today telling me if I want change to vote for it in chicagos upcoming mayoral election. Was I voting? Reply Y or N. I actually found it.....not to my liking. Although I fully admit that I am not liking much these days. Anyways, I was polite and just said please remove me from your list, I no longer live in Chicago so won’t be voting in said election, thanks. And it made me curious. That’s all. But like I said, I kind of hate the world these days so maybe it’s received better from people who aren’t being medicated into menopause 😉

But like I said, I kind of hate the world these days so maybe it’s received better from people who aren’t being medicated into menopause 😉 That approach is off-putting. "Reply Y or N" makes it seem like you're talking to a machine. That's impersonal. What I like about the campaigns I've been a part of is that they value the personal connection. Yeah there's a script and talking points but there is and should be peer-to-peer interaction. And not just to stump for individual candidates: SMS outreach can be used for voter registration efforts and voter education. Last fall I had numerous conversations with voters who didn't know where their polling station was, what Congressional district they were in. Their lists obviously aren't perfect; some people will have moved and your response helps them refine and improve their targets. Here's an interesting resource for data on open and response rates. (Please disregard the candidate behind the curtain.) www.twilio.com/blog/2016/10/voting-in-the-inbox-how-text-messaging-is-changing-modern-electioneering.html

notblanche, thanks for the info! I agree that the scripts you have previously posted at would be better. Yours seem more open to a conversation, vs this seemed very cut and dry. And “knowing” people who have worked on these campaigns meant that instead of ignoring it I actually responded (nicely!) because I assumed it was a real human getting it. I was also unsure how the lists were made- did they just text everyone with a 312 area code number?

The comments on r/The_Donald are so hysterical. Blah blah blah Deep State, blah blah blah taking our freedoms away. Blah Blah Blah Alex Jones never said it was an inside job. Blah Blah Blah Islamophiba, Pedophillia, AntiGay, nonsense. The deplorables have a home and that is where they live. Move over 4chan. Did you see the article on Buzzfeed claiming that QAnon is a prank on Boomers? It's plausible. Links please

Guys. I know I don't go here, and you were all asleep by the time our results came in, but 3 republican seats in Washington state that were considered likely or safe are officially in play after our primary yesterday.
2 of the 3 got more aggregate democratic support than republican. It has been at least 20 years that any of them have seen a democrat (and one of them is my district even though I live in a very blue county). THIS IS SO EXCITING.
