So we have been streaming TV for a year now using Hulu, Playstation Vue (for live tv), and Amazon. DH has been complaining about the lack of newer movies on these streaming services. So I just signed up for a free month of Netflix as I have heard they have more in the movie selection department.
Back in the days before streaming was a thing, we used to have a subscription to the DVD service. It was decent, but there still wasn't a ton of newer movies.
Does anyone here use netflix? If so I have some questions.
Do you do streaming only, dvd only or streaming + dvd? And why did you choose the option you did?
Are there good newer movies available? Or are we going to end up in the same boat as we are with the other services where the movies are mostly old ones.
What are some recommendations of movies and/or tv shows to watch on it?
TIA Ladies!

We have Netflix and love it!
We do streaming only. We can use our account on up to 2 devices at a time.
They usually get some movies shortly after they come out on DVD. Trolls was on Netflix shortly after its release on DVD. It's not as fast as if you were to buy the movie, but we love the selection.
DS loves it as he can watch his shows without commercials. I've watched a lot on there but of course am blanking on anything right now. I'll come back with my recs.

Thanks skategirl128! We don't need the movies to be available at the same time you would by one, but it would be nice to be able to watch things that weren't 4+ years old. So as long as they come out within a few weeks or months we are probably all set. I did set up a profile for DD. Haven't looked at yet it to see what's available for her.

We have Netflix and also love it, we don't have cable television or any other movie/streaming services. Lots of good stuff for adults and kids! We do not have a DVD plan.
My favorite stuff right now to watch:
The Heavy Water War The Great British Baking Show TURN OITNB House of Cards Making a Murderer

Since you mentioned Amazon, do you guys have a firestick? We don't have Netflix but we installed Kodi on our firestick & stream everything through that. It literally has everything. Kodi is the software & then you select whatever add-on fits your needs. If movies & tv shows are what you're looking for, Exodus (what we use 99% of the time) is what would suit your needs. There are others but Exodus is the most popular/highest rated/user friendly. I've watched made for Netflix shows on it, HBO, STARZ, etc, even Hulu, there's literally everything. As far as movies, sometimes you can get lucky & find movies that are still in theaters & watch a decent stream of it or if you wanna wait a a couple of weeks you can definitely see it in HD before it comes out on DVD.

We actually don't have a firestick. We use Roku and a couple boxes and a roku stick. I looked into it quickly and I can't techincally download Kodi on roku because it doesn't run on the same OS.

Ok - so I looked more into it and while I can't download kodi on roku, I can on my windows 10 tablet. And then can screen cast from there to our tv. Hmmm....may have to try this. Though I probably need to get my new router first so we won't have issues with the stream. Thanks for telling me about kodi.

I got the screen mirroring to work. Now I just have to download the app and figure out how to add the "channel" you were referring to. Nay need your help.

Nay need your help. So apparently there is a lawsuit against "TVAddons" which is what was in Kodi and is needed to get Exodus to download. Because of this I cannot get that add-on. Boo! DH is happy with Netflix so I guess we will stick with that for now.

DH is happy with Netflix so I guess we will stick with that for now. say what now?! were you able to download kodi & try it though? We haven't had any lapse in streaming through it. I was able to download Kodi just fine. But the instructions I found to add the exodus add on said that because of the lawsuit tvaddon is no longer working. That being said, I didn't try to add exodus b/c I was going to follow the instructions. I assume when the writers of the instructions say that it isn't available, they are telling the truth. But maybe I should try anyway. Since you can still use it, it could just be they took it out to prevent any new people from adding it but are still allowing existing users to access. That is pure speculation on my part though. Here is the site I was looking at troypoint.com/how-to-install-exodus-on-kodi/ I also have to admit that I am a little leary regarding the warning that says I would be giving the addon access to personal data on my device. Since this is going on a tablet actually has personal data on it, I would prefer that not to get comprised. I know lots of people do it, but knowing my luck I'd end up with my identity stolen.

I did it this way: www.wirelesshack.org/new-kodi-17-krypton-setup-and-how-to-install-exodus.htmlI do see they have the same message that it may not work/they're having issues, etc I can understand your reservations with that message about personal data on a tablet. It's different vs a firestick although I'm not really sure how an addon could access personal data but I'm no computer hacker. Lol
