We haven’t done UO Thursday for a while, so why not? My UO is that I don’t like spending lots of $$$$ on purses. I think the designer bags are pretty, but spending thousands on a purse is not for me. 🤷♀️

We continue to eat our way through our vacation...I am going to go back home like 5 lbs heavier! duskymonkey We have been to sooo many hawker courts and tasted so many things. I took some pics for you! We had amazing masala paneer dosa (all the sauces with it were great), along with excellent laksa and a thing of glutinous rice with chicken: Then we had this thing they call “carrot cake,” but it’s not sweet at all. Kind of pasta like with an orange brown version, and then a white version. Then we had this many layer pandan cake. Tasty: We also hit up satay street one gorged ourselves on so many meats on a stick. Ugh - so full but so worth it. Oh, and we ate an almond tofu icey cold dessert with longan fruit. Nom nom nom.

I suspect department stores purposely make the non designer bags look homely so they can sell the more expensive ones. I recently found a cute pink ombré purse at a little independent store it was under $50 and I get so many complements on it.

I also love shopping for purses at independent boutiques. There was one place in Chicago that I adored - you could actually pick out your own fabric and design your own purse from a set of templates. They had great materials to choose from, and the bags were really well made. I have a clutch that I designed like 10 years ago, and I still get soooo many compliments each time I wear it.

UO: V-tech toys are the worst. In general, I loathe toys that make noise. I'm guessing this isn't too unpopular but most toys that come into our home that make noise do not stay here for long. V-tech seems to be the worst offender. Both sets of grandparents are guilty of this too.

Helping with back-to-school registration today. I love seeing former students and their families. It's also nice to catch up with all my colleagues after a summer apart. 5 of us had babies last school year and 2 more are due this coming fall so there is plenty to catch up on too!
Tonight is the daycare's "back to school night" so H and I are taking the girls. I am anticipating rough transitions for both girls so hopefully this helps DD1 come Monday. DD2 is going to be a hot mess regardless even though the nursery teachers are my absolute favorite and so good with her.

I don't mind the leapfrog toys too much, but the vtech songs somehow wear away at my will to live or at least my will to be a loving patient mom who plays with my kids.

I’m right there in the noisy toys and why are they so loud???
The grandparents like to buy those cheap ass annoying noisy toys from like CVS. I let the kids play with them until they get bored then I toss them. We tell them to stop but they keep buying them.

I think the designer bags are pretty, but spending thousands on a purse is not for me. 🤷♀️ Ditto. I just bought two super nice purses from chapters. I am happy with them and they were on sale so I paid under $100 (much less even I think but I cannot remember) for both! I’m ok to spend a bit more on a quality bag I’ll use a lot, like my $200 diaper bag backpack, but super expensive designer bags are just not for me

V-tech seems to be the worst offender. Both sets of grandparents are guilty of this too. We have very few toys that make noise and our families know we don’t like them so that helps. But the couple we do have I taped over the speaker, it still makes noise but is muffled and is much more manageable!

I am putting away laundry etc right now because I have cleaners coming to do a deep clean of my house this afternoon so I want everything put away so they can get to everywhere. When DS wakes up from his nap we have a grocery order to pick up

Vtech is the worst and I spent $250 on a Michael Kors classic black purse one time but used it all the time. Post kids I don’t picture spending a lot on a purse since they wreck everything.
I can’t really think of an UO because we all seem to agree on most things lol

I really want a $$ purse. Either a LV or the ever popular disco bag. The last purse I bought was 6-7 years ago and was the Dooney Florentine satchel and I use that allll the time. I do not have a big collection but I think I’m due for something new that will hold up.

Hiring a cleaning company was the best decision. I hate spending money on something I can do, but it has been the best. Seriously.

Hello 👋 my non sleeping baby is breaking my spirit so I’m moving through life like a half person and don’t get to post a lot
Our cleaning person comes every other week. I really like it to take care of the things I don’t have time to do like the tubs and toilets.
It’s really nice to have everything clean all at once. For like 10 minutes my house is serene until me kids ruin it. I wish it lasted longer.
I have no extra time right now so picking up before she comes currently stresses me out. I do like that it forces me to deal with any clutter.

I’ve been vocal about transitions stressing me out. I feel like we have too many baby transitions happening at once.
Solids - do I do BLW which I did w DS2 but all of a sudden scares me or purées?
Need to ditch the swaddle and teach baby to fall asleep on her own. The teaching to fall asleep thing seems impossible but if she wakes up st night nothing gets her back down and she maxes her naps underv30 minutes so something has to give.
I’m reading Ferber right now. So wordy! Anyone have tips to get them to fall asleep on their own? She’s 6 months. In her crib for all sleep. My boys both naturally fell asleep on their own but it’s was later and not so urgent.

Taitai I see you are on. When’s the best time to do eye masks? I just did my first one, it felt great! I’m now wondering if morning is the better time though after a bad night of sleep.

I can’t really think of an UO because we all seem to agree on most things lol I think spending $250 on a MK bag is fine! Although I must admit, I have one that is about that price and I never use it anymore when I know the kids will be around, because I think they’d ruin it. DS1 loves to dig in my purse for snacks. 😩 Also - yes, Vtech worms it’s way into my head, and I hate how those toys randomly start making noise if they haven’t been played with for a few minutes. Like, just be quiet toy!

rebeccabunch I feel your pain. There was a several month stretch where she would. Not. Sleep. She woke up every 2-3 hours at night and would nap for 20 minutes. And nursing was the only way to get her to sleep. We tried full blown CIO and she cried for lengths of time I am embarrassed to share but it didn’t work. I mean it was awful. Sometimes the only way she would nap was driving around in the car. Then around 6? 7? months it just got better. We did nothing differently except continue the same routine. We did learn a few things like if we put her in a different sleep sack than the puffy one she was used to (what were we thinking???) she would not sleep (still doesn’t), etc. and we did the technique where we let her cry 5-10 minutes at a time sometimes. But overall she just had to get there on her own. I think it also helped a little that she could roll to her belly on her own. She is a belly sleeper now. I know that’s not very helpful but keep trying different techniques, sleep sacks, light levels, music, white noise, sleep methods and either something will help or it will just get better on its own. It so hard when you’re going through it though. I was so sleep deprived I could barely function some days. Sending you hugs and good sleep vibes. PS I still nurse her to sleep and she sleeps all night most nights or wakes up once and goes back to sleep. Except the last 3 nights but I think that’s teething. 🤷♀️

Taitai, OMG! you're killing me! so YUMM! So glad you are enjoying all the food. The carrot cake is called Char Tow Kuey - it's made of rice flour and daikon radish or white carrot - hence carrot cake. Also I loooovveeee the sticky rice and chicken - Lohr Mai Kai. We often eat that for breakfast growing up. I really should make some here, it isn't too difficult. Hmmm....maybe a weekend lunch.

You can do them anytime! Sorry I missed this - I stepped away from my phone to swim. I find them relaxing, so I do them at night. But you can totally do them during the morning/day! I know lots of ppl who do sheet masks in the morning too - to plump their skin for the day.

Hiring a cleaning company was the best decision. I hate spending money on something I can do, but it has been the best. Seriously. I can't convince hubs to do this. He doesn't think or believe they can clean as well as us me. Sigh. I try to tell him it'll get us by until I deep clean it in addition. Anyways now that I am home it's not such a big deal but I totally get it when you're working FT and only have the weekends and rather spend quality family time than doing chores. SaveSave

Good news first. Lil fella started sitting himself up yesterday and I saw it all! I didn't miss it and so cute to see him and so grateful I had the privilege. We had an accident yesterday evening. Well over 24 hours has now passed without any symptoms of concussion so I can stop holding my breath and start breathing again. So yesterday lil fella fell of a bench on our front porch while waiting for me to come from from fetching DS from school - he was with dad. I surprised myself and did not have any choice words for him. It happened 10 mins before I got home. I was also calm and nursed him ( it was nursing time ) while I got on the phone with the children's hospital emergency hotline. He calmed down once we started nursing and by 2nd boob he stopped crying and was grabbing at the phone. Hubs did have the good sense to ice his head so he narly has a goose bump but we were so worried. Hubs I know is feeling like complete shit so I didn't lay it on him. Anyways I'll still be monitoring him for the next week cos I am one of those people.
