clementine, I know with DS that he was getting breakfast, lunch, and dinner by 7 months. N is 5 months and I just upped her solids to twice a day, breakfast and dinner. Her early bedtime doesn't allow her to eat dinner at the same time as us right now, but I do give her food as close to our normal meal times as possible. I always offer her solids about 1 hour after a bottle so that she's hungry enough to actually eat, so she gets breakfast with DS at around 8am and then she gets her dinner at 5:30pm. calendula that's so cute that Lou loves food so much! N pumps her arms furiously if I don't get the spoon to her mouth fast enough

Leaf 🌱 we saw a pediatric allergist last week. According to her (and other doctors I've spoken to) allergens should be introduced as early as possible, and given regularly after introduction (there is apparently a large body of convincing data on this regarding peanuts, and the theory is that it will work for other common allergens too). Ideally they should be introduced before 6 months. I’ve got a new family doctor fresh out of med school and this is what he says too.

Ok my dr told me the same about allergens. I’ve given him eggs and strawberries so far (so good) but how are you guys doing peanuts? Peanut butter right? And just putting it on toast? Or an apple or something? It’s stumping me

I'm so nervous about introducing allergens. I think peanut butter will be first and I'm planning just to drizzle some on some baked sweet potato. Maybe we'll do eggs over the weekend. We usually can get them fresh at the farmer's market on Saturday.

Thanks everyone for your replies to me. And calendula yes I wanted any and all advice. 😊 Leaf 🌱 thanks for suggesting sticking with "level 1 foods". I like to say/think that I'm very cautious with BLW but I had got less cautious since he seemed to be handling everything very well. Anyway we'll stick with foods that are soft enough to squish between thumb and forefinger for a while yet. Which is more satisfying for both of us because he can actually eat more of it. As for MIL, yes I'm lucky that she will apologize to me any time she's out of line. I told her I appreciated her concern, and that I was going to be more cautious and then also C&P some paragraphs from the BLW e-book and emailed to her. On another note, I ordered two of the silicone dish mats for DS's tray. I ordered red and yellow cause I figured that was pretty gender neutral. They sent pink and yellow. That's the second time in a month that I've been sent wrong colors.(two different stores) I asked for a refund because hello you had one job, but I guess DS will use a pink plate. 🤷😊

She didn’t say anything about strawberries though. I didn’t know that was something we had to watch out for.

Thanks guys! I think we’ll try some peanut butter tomorrow morning! I had a peanut allergy as a kid so this one worries me the most 😬 It worries me, too. DS is allergic to several nuts + eggs and he didn't react until like his 7th or so try of peanut butter. Our doctor said to do peanut butter every single day with N but my husband (for no scientific reason, just a very nervous parent) is adamant about not giving it every day. So she's only had it about 4 times at this point.

Strawberries are a common allergen. Also wheat.

Yes the allergen thing is new to me too. When my oldest was born we waited. That's good input, mintyblueair, about the repeated exposure. I need to be better about this!

Yeah I will give strawberry a go tomorrow I think. I think I mixed a little peanut butter in DS1’s oatmeal or plain yoghurt? I can’t remember.

We are up to two meals a day here as well. She gets upset when we are sitting for lunch or breakfast and she's not eating. She is mostly on purees but we have tried banana slices. She just mostly played with them and got mad because much wasn't going in her mouth. I want to try giving her more solid pieces of food but don't know where to start.
I'll usually nurse her before and she sometimes likes to nurse after too.

I have been so slacking on the food front. I made a bunch of puree and then keep forgetting them thaw them out.
But at dinner I usually give her random pieces of our meal to nom on.
Yesterday we did this like...food tour of our city and she slept through most of it. But at the end we got a little bit of guacamole and a chip so I gave her the guac and she was LOVING it.

We’ve done a few fruits and veg purées and baby porridge which he’s loving. Made a chicken pumpkin sweet potato puree for H to give him today as he is looking so so longingly at our proteins at meal time haha.
Next to try is yoghurt and peanut butter, later this week
My first was such a challenge with solids, it’s such a different experience this go around.

I don’t want to deal with the BLW mess like last time, but I’m cool with it otherwise. I’ve been a lot more lax about what she’s eating than I was with DS.
I’ve given broccoli, chicken, pasta, rice, lentil soup, apple, banana, avocado, mashed potato, squash soup, applesauce, oatmeal, corn, wild rice and tomato so far. I haven’t been feeding her with regularity yet though. Is this confession worthy?
I’m really scared about allergies but will maybe try peanut butter tomorrow.

I fed Emaline ALL THE TIME. With Noelle it's like oh here have some of our food, if I think of it. Usually E reminds me haha.

The baby had peas for the 3rd time for dinner tonight and about an hour after she broke out in a rash on her arm and stomach. Not hives just red spots.
What would you guys do? Avoid peas or try again and see if she reacts again?
I've never heard of a pea allergy but Google kind of has freaked me out that it could correlate with a peanut allergy as they are both legumes.

Are you sure it’s from eating the peas and not irritation from a high chair strap or soap used to clean her up? I would hold off on peas for the immediate future until you can talk to your pedi. Ask about doing the cheek test with PB - smearing some on her cheek and checking for redness or irritation.

Leaf 🌱 I just assumed it was from the peas since that's the only thing new. The high chair strap doesn't hit the parts that have the rash. That's why I'm not sure if I should try peas one more time to make sure that's what caused it.

cp3 like little red dots? Does your baby have eczema at all? Did the food come into contact with her skin in those areas?

This is what it looked like around 9:30 last night about 3 hours after she ate. When I first noticed it it was a red splotchy patch. The red rash from her arm was gone by then. She doesn't have eczema. And I don't think it would have come into contact with that part of her stomach as it was covered by a shirt.

cp3, are there other dots or just that one? How many would you say? That doesn't look like an allergic reaction to me, but its hard to tell.

cp3 it doesn't look like an allergic reaction to me so I'd personally give the peas again this morning and watch for a reaction throughout the day.
