Okay so I'm about to share a huge part of what I like to do with my life. I've been watching telenovelas since I was a kid. I rather been inside watching than playing outside. Hello introvert! So anyway here we go my favorite gringas!

On Netflix right now
Lo que la vida me robo (trans: what life took awake from me)
Monserrat and Alejandro have one of the best stories in the past 5 years or so. The story was written by Caridad Bravo Adams, but has been adapted to current times. This one is a slow burn.
Basically Monserrat's (main protagonist) family is going broke. She has a boyfriend who is a marine, but he's not rich. They both love each other very much. Alejandro (main protagonist) is the long lost child of this rich dude and becomes super rich overnight. He likes Monserrat at first sight. Monserrat likes him, but she's head over heels in love with her bf and leaves tbings at that. Anyway, Monserrat's mom (she's the story's villain) sort of orchestrates the whole situation where she breaks up Monserrat with her bf and tells Monserrat to marry Alejandro to get them out of going broke. Monserrat agrees after a misunderstanding. on her wedding day Alejandro finds out that Monserrat doesn't really love him but married him to save her family and was planing to run away from her bf after things got cleared up between them. So alejandro vows to make her pay for messing with his feelings and brings her to his hacienda away from her family. From there on, they are like cats and dogs, but slooowly Monserrat starts falling in love with Alejandro. There's more drama. But that's the gist. At some point the bf shows up to Alejandro's hacienda under another name to try to get Monserrat, but she's already falling for Alejandro.
There is a Dramoine in there waiting to happen. Not exactly to the t, but very loosely. Like Hermione needs to marry Draco because something. Draco finds out and all goes to hell but they eventually fall for each other.

You guys have no idea how long my queue on Netflix is. It's actually kind of embarrassing. I'm binging NCIS right now, but I'll start on new things soon.

miawallace, have you heard of La Otra Mirada? It was recommended in the Period Drama Appreciation Society group. I need to start that too, but someone said the subtitles can be hard to read. My list is getting so long!

My list is getting so long! No but I've heard of it. If you are looking for a period telenovela. Let me recommend Corazón Salvaje. It's considered one of the best, if not the best telenovela. It's also by Caridad Bravo Adams. She does really good stories. The quick summary is that Monica is in love with Andres. Andres is engaged to her sister Aimee. Aimee is sort of a liberated woman. She's cheating on Andres with Juan Del Diablo. Anyway, Monica wants to tell Andres that her sister is cheating on him. But is stopped by her mom so that Aimee can marry Andres and keep them rich. It is soon discovered that Juan is the illegitimate first born of Andre's dad. Anyway, Andres finds out one of the sisters has been Formicating with Juan and assumes it's Monica and forces her, as the newly man of the house, to marry. So they marry and Juan sort of teaches her to speak for herself and not be a doormat. It's actually quiet ahead of its times. I found some episodes on YouTube with English subtitles.

I need to get back into watching telenovelas! I started in high school to improve my Spanish and it's definitely been a few years since I've tried to get into one.
Totally adding Corazón Salvaje to my list of stuff to watch because I'm a sucker for a decent period drama (or even just an okay one as long as the costuming is fairly accurate because I'll nitpick the hell out of that).

You know, the older period telenovelas were very true to their period. Even with music. Now, it's very popular to have a hit song be the main song. But yeah corazon salvaje is really true to its period. Bodas de Odio is too.

El Extraño Retorno de Diana Salazar
Was such a good novela too. I think it's on YouTube. The main gist was Diana Salazar is the reincarnated form of this lady who was accused of being a witch back in the day. She gets flashbacks of that time. It's one of the first supernatural stories.
