1. 14 months tomorrow! 2. Usually two at home, 10 and 3ish, usually in the crib or in the car if we are out and about. He's been taking one longer nap at daycare around noon. 3. Nurse (I offer but he doesn't always want to), read a few books, sound machine on, crib. 4. He's been fighting the two naps a little, crying when I put him in the crib, but usually still falling asleep within a couple of minutes. The morning nap usually lasts 1-1.5 hours, sometimes longer, and the afternoon naps have been shorter, 30-45 minutes. I've been wondering about transitioning to one nap at home, since he seems to be doing fine with the one nap (usually 2-2.5 hours) at daycare. I haven't really noticed a difference in night time sleep. I don't know if there is an advantage to one nap vs. two - probably easier scheduling activities around?

Hello! I have never participated here before but saw this in the Recent Threads list and thought I'd pop in. piratecat Pros and cons about dropping the morning nap - mostly for you! The pro is that yes, it's not such a rush to get home/comfortable by nap time, but the con is that you lose that quiet time! When my DS dropped his morning nap, we had to start the afternoon nap just a little bit earlier than we had been, which caused a shift in some afternoon activities. We also had to hold fast to the "no morning nap" rule once we started, so there were days we'd just be quiet and read, so that DS could rest without actually sleeping. It's a big adjustment to be awake for so long! GL! 1. DS is ::does the math:: 33 months. Almost 3! 2. One nap per day. While at DC, they nap 1 to 3, but on the weekends we let him snooze for 3-3.5 hours. 3. We're officially done with the noise machine and pacifiers, so it's pretty simple these days. After lunch, we get cleaned up and ask if he wants to read for awhile or go upstairs. If he wants to read, we read. If he doesn't, then we go up and he gets in bed. There's a long hug/kiss/rub-noses routine and then I tell him I'll see him later. When he's done sleeping, he gets out of bed and knocks on his door (we still use the monitor so I know when he's awake, but it's just something he's always done). 4. No questions ATM!

anarossi , welcome! The breaks in the day are definitely nice! A longer chunk of time sounds nice too. And it could be tough with the no-more-morning-nap rule, especially if we are in the car. I think it's easier for him at daycare because there's so much going on around him. That's really cute that he knocks on the door when he's done napping.

Agreed - that's really where I started to re-plan my late-morning activities since I anticipated a lull in energy and didn't want him to fall asleep. Maybe you've already experienced this but there is nothing worse than a false start to a nap... a quick doze in the car that doesn't last and then no real nap happens. The worst!

That really is the worst. I used to get stuck in the car a lot after he fell asleep, but at least he slept. These days, he usually wakes up as soon as I stop the car so then the nap is ruined and throws the rest of the day off.

1. How old is/are your LO(s)? A 3, N 2 & G 14 months 2. How many naps? What time of day? Where? A & N - nap only when Dh is home so 4ish days a week, normally at 2ish. G - we are transitioning to once a day, 11:30ish. So much easier. 3. Naptime routine? A & N - lots of whining and threats. G - nurse, crib, and then bye Felicia. He is super chill. We still use the noise machine for everyone though. I even sleep with a noise machine. 4. Questions? Maybe we are too breezy with naps. But if the girls do nap, they are up super late, like 10ish.

1. How old is/are your LO(s)? 14 months 😳
2. How many naps? What time of day? Where? 2 naps a day. Usually 9am and 2pm, in the crib
3. Naptime routine? Fresh diaper, I turn on his soother/white noise, make sure he has all 1700391774 binkies and peace out
Edit to add that DS1 is 3 and naps once in the afternoon for about 2.5-3 hours. He's my unicorn sleeper.

1. How old is/are your LO(s)? 10mo
2. How many naps? What time of day? Where? Two naps: 9:30ish and 2:00ish. Crib at school, either crib or on DH in the rocker at home.
3. Naptime routine? Diaper, boob/bottle, rock, white noise.
4. Questions? Not necessarily a question, but a whine: He doesn't nap nearly as well at home as at school. They lay him down and he's out. At home it's like we're torturing him to make him nap in his crib.

At home he gets to do naps in my bed - which is totally nap bribery. 3. Naptime routine? lunch, potty, nap. No other real routine.

1. 3.5 and 15 months
2. DS1- 3 stories in his bed by H, then he gets 1 from me. He goes down around 1pm if he takes one at all
DS2- milk in sippy while I read a story. We rock for a while, then he goes to his crib. He goes down around noon.
They both have a sound machine that runs the entire time. I never could break DS1 from it, and where we are now makes me grateful for it

At home it's like we're torturing him to make him nap in his crib. This is very common. They often get way more worn at out daycare and peer pressure My kids just ended up being the opposite at that age- they slept so much better at home. Now, not so much unless they’ve spent hours at the park

And yes, one nap days make scheduling so much easier. We’re usually one of the first in the stores for errands and then they have plenty of time to play on the playground without other kids, life got so much easier for scheduling when we got to the one nap phase

1. How old is/are your LO(s)? 13.5 months 2. How many naps? What time of day? Where? 2 naps at like 8 and 1 in her crib, both about 90 mins. DC is closed for the summer (teacher schedule) so I wonder how this will change since she may take a 15 min nap on the way to DC at 7:15ish like she used to do and she’ll be moving to 1 nap at some point. 3. Naptime routine? We just took away pacifiers so we get bunny out of her crib to snuggle, turn off light and turn on sound machine and either right into crib or read a story if she seems not ready. 4. Questions?

When I asked their pedi when to take it away, he just went “don’t be surprised to find it in the trunk when he goes off to college!”

1. How old is/are your LO(s)? DS is 9.5 months, DD is almost 4
2. How many naps? What time of day? Where? DS - 2 naps, 9:30 and 1:30, in his crib at home. Both naps are 1-1.5 hrs. DD - quiet time at 1:30ish for about 1.5 hrs in her bed. She will fall asleep if she’s had a busy day/been outside a lot otherwise she just reads books or rests.
3. Naptime routine? DS - nurse, book, 2 songs. DD - bathroom and tuck in, nice and easy 👍
4. Questions? None I can think of!

Either way, we bring him to his room around 1:30. 3. Naptime routine? Potty, hugs and kisses in his room, and then he lays down in his bed once he's sure he has all the stuff that belongs in bed with him (pillow, blanket, his two stuffed puppies, and recently he's started taking an OBall football to bed). 4. Questions?

He's got a bunch of little stuffed animals too and he rarely pays attention to any of them. I don't know, maybe when he gets older? There was a little stuffed farmer thing he used to take to bed but he lost interest in that too.

1. How old is/are your LO(s)? 16 months 2. How many naps? What time of day? Where? 1 nap, around 12:30, in her crib 3. Naptime routine? With me, I let her nurse a bit and then put her in the crib with her blanket and bear. If she asks for her water cup, I'll give it to her. With the nanny, they have a cuddle in a chair for a bit first. 4. Questions? We recently moved to 1 nap, and we're struggling with it. DD is very, very tired by 12:30 - and if she's in the car or stroller around 10/11, she will fall asleep without any effort. If naptime is too early, she can't make it to 7:30 bedtime. If I move up bedtime, she'll be up earlier in the morning. We moved to 1 nap thinking that the morning nap was related to her increasingly-earlier morning wake up time. But it really hasn't changed - she's still up by 6, sometimes 5:45. Ideally she'd wake up at 6:30/6:45. I don't think there's much we can do but keep on keeping on with it. But it sucks. I am hoping she starts to take a longer nap - right now she rarely naps for 2 hours, and before her total nap time was closer to 2.5 hours.

moutonrouge Do you think a morning cat-nap might help? Something around 8:30-9 for only half an hour or so or would she totally refuse? DS1 was taking two naps until around 18-19 months.

moutonrouge, how long has it been since you switched to 1 nap? I could see this same problem happening with us. I think I will just have to avoid the car or stroller at certain times, but I know it'll be hard. Can you put her back in the car/stroller for a short afternoon nap on those days?
